Who: Hypnos and Nyx When: April 6, late night Where: Restaurant Ratings/warnings: tbd Despite her outward appearance Nyx was actually quite pleased that so many of her children had found their way to New York. Though she still felt no maternal connection she still viewed them as 'hers'. They were for her to do with as she pleased. After all, they were given to her as gifts. She was still not fully trusting of them, she was hardly trusting of anyone these days. But those who had betrayed her were still noted and it would be a long time yet before she let those few in on her plans. For now she was quiet.
Only a handful of gods were worthy now. And she intended to venture into the city to find one of them. One of her children. Her own flesh and blood. She would find her Hypnos. What she actually planned to do when she found him wasn't known yet to her, but the desire to see her son was strong.
It wasn't maternal. It was only want.
That was when she felt her son. The very one she was looking for. It was as though she had followed a track to exactly where he was hiding. Perhaps not hiding, but it was suitable enough. Where most mothers might smile with joy she merely stopped, spotted him and then approached. "You have been here how long and not sought me out?" Although it was something of a reprimand there was a hint of amusement. Her dream sons were often among her favorites, but telling them would only lead to unnecessary conflict.

After getting off work, Hypnos had made his way to one of his favorite haunts, all but collapsing into a booth and ordering some dinner.
When he felt another immortal enter, he sat up a little straighter and looked around. Another Greek, if he was any judge, and that made him both excited and a little wary.
So when the woman with dark hair stopped and began speaking to him, it took a minute for him to process who she was. "Mom," he breathed, grinning. He almost jumped up to give her a hug, then thought better of it. His mother she may be, but she wasn't exactly the cuddly type.
"Only a couple months, and I honestly didn't know you were here," he bubbled. "Here, sit down, I'll buy you dinner and try to make it up to you." (Reply to this)(Thread)
dark_veil 2011-04-06 04:28 pm (local) (link) Nyx was hardly ever wary of others. She had no reason to be. She was one of the first, she was Night. She was not afraid of others and anyone thought otherwise they had another thing coming.
She would never understand how on earth she had produced any nice children. It was bound to happen somewhere but as she thought of it more of her children were nicer than they should be. But of course if one decided they needed a motherly hug they would soon be sorely disappointed. His judgment was good.
"No excuses, dear son. I stay hidden as I want." She sat, looking as proper and upright as a lady should. But underneath it all was something dark and dangerous. "I'm pleased to see you." There was a hint of a smile but only if one looked close enough. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
bringerofsleep 2011-04-06 05:09 pm (local) (link) "I know you do. Sorry Mom," he said, taking his seat again now that she'd sat down. He beckoned the waiter over, adding, "Whatever you want, it's on me."
He smiled in return, a bit more noticeable than hers, but that was just how he was. "It's good to see you too," he replied. "It's been a really long time. Been keeping busy?" (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
dark_veil 2011-04-06 06:11 pm (local) (link) His apology was unnecessary and Nyx found herself finding him weak for apologizing for nothing. Children of Nyx had nothing to be sorry about, but unless she said otherwise. But she dismissed it. She was a light eater and ordered something that fit her preference. Anything more and she would feel like a cow.
"I've been keeping my mortals and their visitors in line. I found your sisters, Lyssa and Mania sometime back. They have run off and I decided to give them the time they need to be away. I also watch carefully from the shadows. I am my usual self," she said with more of a grin now. "What is it you do here?" (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
bringerofsleep 2011-04-07 05:43 am (local) (link) Hypnos winced internally. Sometimes, talking to his mother was like walking a tightrope, one misstep, and you'd fall to your death. Still, there was no reason he couldn't try to salvage the conversation.
"Of that, I have no doubt," he replied. He shrugged when she mentioned Lyssa and Mania. "They are what they are, I'm sure they'll be back soon enough."
"Right now, I work days at Hecate's shop, since she doesn't really wake up until the sun sets," he answered. "She likes to jokingly call me her 'minion'. It's a good gig, I like it." He yawned hugely then. "Though I can feel a crash coming on soon. I'm overdue for one anyway." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
dark_veil 2011-04-07 08:40 am (local) (link) "They return when the time is right. I trust your sisters to do that. They always return to me at some point." She sipped at her water, "Besides, they are perfectly capable of taking care of themselves. As are most of my children."
Nyx would have preferred to have kept a personal watch over all of her children, but considering she had spawned so many that was nearly impossible. The vulnerable ones were the ones she took most advantage of. "Mm," she said in response to him being called someones minion. She seemed somewhat amused but how she really felt only Nyx knew. "You do not forget your place, I assume?" Her eyes stared into his, though even in that stare it was simply a mother reminding her son that he had a purpose and that purpose should not be forgotten. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread) How about I post this in the right place this time *facepalm* bringerofsleep 2011-04-08 05:56 am (local) (link) "They are indeed," he replied. "And I'd go so far as to the say the majority of us are, we learned that quickly."
"As if I ever could," he said lightly, raising one eyebrow. "I am the same as ever I've been. I fulfill the same purpose." He held her gaze steadily. He would not look down or away, it wouldn't help him in the slightest. Happy, cheery, and kind he may be, but he was still a son of Night, and her children were made of sterner stuff. So he kept his head up. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread) <3 dark_veil 2011-04-08 09:03 am (local) (link) At that Nyx looked quite pleased. "It's good to know you still remember." Although Nyx didn't necessarily raise any of her children she had still made sure to instill proper survival skills. They would know it naturally but she still made sure they would be successful.
Had she been the motherly type she would have reached out and touched his hand or his cheek. But she herself was not weak and showing such emotions was new to her still. "It pleases me to hear that. You certainly remember how to make your mother happy." Although Nyx would have very much like to say he needed to pass that on to some of his sisters she didn't breathe a word. That in itself might suggest Nyx was becoming weak and not in control of her own children. "Should you ever need a place to stay my home is of course open." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
bringerofsleep 2011-04-09 01:07 am (local) (link) "It's not something you easily forget," he said, completely honestly. Sometimes it seemed like being one of Nyx's children was very much 'eat or be eaten', and he'd had no desire to be eaten.
He relaxed a fraction and cracked a tiny smile. "I'm glad. And I certainly do try." He liked his mother, he really did, but sometimes talking to her felt like you were addressing the Queen. You were never quite sure what was and what was not alright to say. But agreeing with her seemed like the best option.
"Thanks so much, I will definitely keep that in mind," he replied. "And of course you'd be welcome to come and visit me whenever you want." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
dark_veil 2011-04-11 10:44 am (local) (link) That was exactly what it used to mean to be a child of Nyx. She was protective, when it came to others trying to use her babies for their own evils. Exactly what Nyx had planned for herself or her children was known only to her. She was under no ones power but one and those who held her respect could be counted on one hand.
Hypnos need not worry about Nyx turning around and slapping him, or worse. Even though she not agree to his relaxing she would do no harm to her son. Playing favorites meant keeping those favored children safe and thinking they were forever in her care. It was true, to an extent. The level of formality and stiffness about Nyx could be overwhelming, even to her own children. She judged quietly for the most part and if you really pissed her off you knew. So far Hypnos was on safe ground.
She bowed her head slightly, "You are my child, it is my duty to look after you where I see fit." She would have smiled from ear-to-ear at that if it had been in her nature, "Thank you, my darling boy. I shall keep you to that."
