WHO: Ate & the Jersey Devil WHEN: Saturday night WHAT: The standard 'random meeting on a New York street' scene WARNINGS: talk of creepy sex, tba So Daddy was awake again. That was a bit of a bummer as far as Ate was concerned, but not something that she would let spoil her mood for long. Remarkable how keeping her locked as his own little mistreated concubine for a month had helped Ate's feelings of parental abandonment. Creepy love was better than no love. (Not that anything between Ate and Zeus could be called love. Not that Ate was really a thing capable of the concept of love.)
But life for Ate remained pretty much as it always had. She stalked the nights, looking for entertainment in whatever form it came in. Tonight it came in a takeaway burrito that might have been - she considered as she chewed - cat meat of some variety.
Something tingled on her senses and Ate wiped some grease off her chin, turning to see who the unfamiliar person was.
newjersey_devil 2011-12-11 08:38 am (local) (link) Lucas had grown restless in the days since his unexpected visitors, and he'd decided to come up to New York, if only to stretch his legs and drop in on them unexpectedly. Or maybe shift and fly over the city screeching. He hadn't really decided yet, but both had their merits.
But New York had changed since the 1930's when he'd been there last. Too many people, lots of flashing lights, and cars honking their horns, drivers leaning out the window to scream and curse and flip others the bird.
He'd finally managed to find his way down a relatively dark and quiet side street when a fizzing sensation sparked in the back of his brain, the way it had when he'd met Winter and Mothra, but...different. Like a different note within the same chord. Curious. He turned his head to look, wondering where it might be coming from. (Reply to this)(Thread)
recklessate 2011-12-11 09:25 am (local) (link) Whatever he was, he was a shadow-dwelling thing just like she was tonight. Ate smiled darkly, tossing the last of her burrito away and approaching the man-shaped creature that had clearly felt her presence just as she'd felt his.
"Hello, sugar," she purred, stepping out under the streetlight. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
newjersey_devil 2011-12-11 09:35 am (local) (link) She was a tiny little thing, but he knew better than to assume that meant she was harmless. She felt like madness and danger, though, and that he could definitely appreciate. "Well hello, sweetheart," he drawled, looking her up and down. "And what's a girl like you doing out all by herself?" (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
recklessate 2011-12-11 09:46 am (local) (link) Ate clasped her hands before herself and fluttered her eyelashes up at the stranger, giving him the sweetest look she could muster. "Oh darlin," she breathed, her accent moving Southern even as she spoke. "I'm just hopin' to get home all safe and sound without runnin' into any dangerous menfolk out here." newjersey_devil 2011-12-11 09:51 am (local) (link) He managed to keep a straight face for all of five seconds before cracking a smile and laughing a little. "Something tells me you could hold your own against any 'dangerous menfolk' that might be running around the streets tonight," he said, raising an eyebrow. "The accent's a nice touch, though." recklessate 2011-12-11 10:06 am (local) (link) "Maybe," Ate suggested with a smirk and then said, "glad you like it, cause it's the only one I can do."
She moved then, walking in a circle around him, inspecting him. "Now who might you be, pumpkin? Because I don't think we've met before." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
newjersey_devil 2011-12-12 09:35 am (local) (link) "I thought as much," he replied, smirking back at her. "And I can't do any accents at all, so more power to you."
He tilted his head, wondering if he ought to tell her. Then again, he could always hunt her down if she told mortals he was about. He had her scent now.
"They call me Lucas," he finally replied. "At least, most people do. My neighbors usually called me the Jersey Devil." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
recklessate 2011-12-12 09:47 am (local) (link) "The Jersey Devil, like the horny Christian guy?" Ate asked him and raised the corner of her lip in amusement. "Shouldn't you be in Jersey? (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
newjersey_devil 2011-12-18 06:46 am (local) (link) "Ew, no," he said with a grimace. "My bitch of a mother cursed me to be the Devil. It's thanks to her I got the shape I was born with. The man-shape is pretty new."
He shrugged, smirking. "Jersey gets boring after a while. Friend of mine told me to come up this way sometime. Thought I'd see how much has changed in 80 years." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread)
recklessate 2011-12-19 10:00 am (local) (link) "Weird," Ate stated easily before adding: "lucky you're not one of them. Cause I'd have to take something internal and bloody, just on principle." Ate still didn't hold with Christians for taking their faith. (Except George. But he didn't count in Ate's mind.)
"And?" Ate asked, her tone teasing. "Spotting any differences, honey? Things like electricity and all that?"
