WHO: King John
WHEN: Monday morning, 6 Dec '11
WHERE: John's law firm
WHAT: the shit hits the fan
When John walked into the firm that morning, his sense for trouble was immediately piqued, and he knew it wasn't just paranoia. After having his apartment broken into a few days ago, he was on the lookout for anything out of the ordinary.
For starters, nobody would make eye contact with him, even less than usual. When people scurried out of his way on a regular morning, they didn't suppress giggles. John scowled and walked through them, the impression of bated breath and choked-back laughter following him as he strode to his office. He shut his office door and started getting himself organised for the day.
His new assistant had been assiduous in leaving coffee on his desk, and John took a sip as he sat down to check his emails. In a classic cliche, he choked and spat his beverage when he saw what someone had emailed to every single person in the entire firm, including his partners. The video of John sleeping and sucking his thumb that Robin had taken had been shared on Youtube, and was already pushing 15,000 views mere hours after being uploaded.
There was also a very grateful email thanking him for a sizable donation to some orphan charity or something. A very large donation, that looked suspiciously like the amount of money he'd had in his personal chequeing account last time he'd checked it.
John was so angry he chewed the skin around his fingernails until it bled. Rage boiled up in his gut and he felt like puking, he was so furious. He threw the coffee cup at the wall and strode back out the way he'd come, a scream of fury stuck in his throat. There was no way he'd further be humiliated by having a temper tantrum in the office, but he felt the need to kick something and it was better if it wasn't an intern this time. That kid had taken a lot of money to keep quiet.
By the time John was done venting, his living room was a wreck and his suit was in tatters. Panting heavily, he pushed his hair off his face, retrieved his cellphone, and dialed his assistant.
"Jacob, cancel or postpone all my appointments today. I won't be in."
Robin Hood -and John had no doubt in his mind that it was Robin who had perpetrated this atrocity- was going to pay heavily for what he'd done.
