Who: Helen and Patroclus
When: Saturday night
Where: Out on the town
Helen was looking forward to getting Patroclus to herself again. She was determined to make things right, even if everyone around her had all the reasons in the world not to trust her. She was surprised herself Patroclus was so eager to come back to her arms. Nonetheless, she wanted him and would do what she could to get what she wanted. Somewhere deep down there was also this amusement at being able to lure him in.
She showed up right on time to pick him up. She was ready for a night on the town. Knocking on his door, she waited for him to answer, grinning a little. This would be all sorts of fun indeed.
Patroclus hadn't told Briseis who was coming to their door, which was precisely why he didn't invite Helen in as he answered the door. Instead, he grinned and stepped outside. "You look beautiful," he informed her. "I hope I'm dressed okay?"
Although Helen did wonder why he hadn't suggested she come in, even for a moment, she was happy he hadn't. Unbeknown to him they were in a tad bit of a hurry to get where she was taking him. She smiled, "Thank you." Then she nodded, "You always look wonderful. Come on," she said, taking his hand, "or we'll be late."
Patroclus took her hand, allowing her to lead him at whatever speed she wanted. "Any clues?" he asked, amused.
Helen grinned, "Not yet." She walked quickly to the cab that was waiting for them. Once they were both in she told the driver to step on it.
After a speedy drive they stopped at Pier 81 and she retreated from the car. She then led him to a yacht beaming at him after they entered the boat, "It's a dinner cruise. Surprise."
Patroclus held on to her as she led him to a yacht. He grinned as she revealed their plans. "It's...amazing." No one had ever really done anything like this for him before. He didn't really do the romance thing, and when he did, he was the one surprising people. It felt wonderful. "Thank you."
Helen looked pleased. "You really like it?" She handed over their tickets as they came through the door. Surprising people seemed to be one of the things she did best. When they were led to their table, which beforehand she made sure would be the most private and intimate one available, she made to sit down. It was small but it was intended so that the guests sat side by side, so when he took his seat she moved closer. She was still watching him, "I said I wanted to make things right, and if it's me having to woo you then so be it."
Helen didn't really have to woo him back at all, but he supposed there was little harm in letting her try. "No one ever does things like this for me," he said, looking around.
While Helen may not believe it was necessary either, there were still loops she had to jump through. It might as well have been a show, the way she was performing. But there was still something here. She smiled gently, "Well you're going to have to get used to it."
"Get used to it? Do you have more planned?" Patroclus reached for her hand to gently take it into his own. "And do I ever get to surprise you?"
"For tonight, yes." She couldn't help grinning at him. She crossed her legs and leaned in a little closer, then gave his hand a squeeze. "You can surprise me anytime you like."
Patroclus leaned in to kiss her lips gently. "I'll keep that in mind. But for now, I'm just going to enjoy this. No one has done something like this for me before, Helen."
Helen smiled, "That surprises me. You're worth it all and more." She smiled at the waiter as he brought a selection of wine. She chose one of them and the waiter poured a glass for each of them. Helen picked up her glass and held it up in a toast, "To new beginnings."
"Hear hear," Patroclus said with a grin, gently clinking his glass to hers before taking a sip. It was wonderful wine, even if he did feel a little like he was cheating on his boss by drinking wine.
Patroclus wanted to believe he was worth it, but he was pretty sure he was only worth tagging along with other people who were better than he was. Perhaps that was why he was here too. Helen was Helen. He was just one of her suitors.
He pushed those thoughts away as he said something terribly lame like, "the water's pretty."
She sipped her wine and then set the glass back down. She nodded at his statement, "It is. It'll be nice when it's warmer. We'll have to go swimming."
In Helen's attempts at getting tickets for this particular dinner she'd managed to find out the menu. It was all Greek and that only made it more pleasant. So when the appetizer (Souvlaki) came out she looked excitedly at him. "It's supposed to be as authentic as they come. Supposed to. We'll just see about that."
"I like swimming," Patroclus said with a grin.
Patroclus loved Greek food, unsurprisingly. When it was set in front of him, he chuckled lightly. "I'm sure it's wonderful," he said, taking a bite. It was. "Mmm, brilliant," he said, once he had swallowed.
This was where Helen said something that could catch most people off guard, but she said with all seriousness. "Ever gone skinny dipping?"
It was very good and Helen felt a sense of home, but unfortunately for her it also brought back all those memories she didn't want to think about. Everything she'd pushed aside because of something a selfish coward had taken that was never his to begin with. Her thoughts and feelings, however, were not spoken aloud. Helen was stronger than that. (More like stubborn.) "I've tried making it but I was never the greatest cook," she said with laugh.
Patroclus nearly choked on his bite of food when Helen asked him that and he stared at her in shock. "Er...yes." Getting around in the nip wasn't unusual for Greek soldiers anyway. But he still hadn't expected her to ask. And then talk about food.
"I can't cook at all. So you're probably beating me!"
Helen merely grinned at his reaction. "It's refreshing." She'd gone a time or two. "The only thing I'm really good with are a microwave and an apron," she laughed.
The meal was as good as "authentic" went in America. After the appetizer it had consisted of a Greek Salad (how original), Lamb Kapama and baklava for dessert. She was satisfied but never finished a plate. She had to watch her figure, after all, even if she did work out several hours a week.
Leaning back comfortably she smiled fondly at him, a hand resting on his. Quiet music had been playing and though no one was dancing she asked, "Would you like to dance?"
Patroclus, who had finished absolutely everything on his plates because he ate like a warrior, spun out of his chair and he offered Helen a hand with a grin. "I would love to dance with you," he said.
Helen smiled in return, taking his hand and stood up. When they had settled on the dance floor (if you wanted to call it that) she rested her free hand on his shoulder and stayed close by, resting her cheek against his. "I've missed you," she whispered in all sincerity.
Patroclus breathed in deep before turning his head to the side and kissing her cheek softly. "You don't have to miss me anymore," he whispered gently. He would do anything for her. It was his nature. And he loved her because that was his heart. That she even looked at him was an honour, but this...this was beyond his wildest dreams.
"So much happened while you were gone," he said somewhat sadly. "And even now, things aren't right yet."
She smiled a little at that. Whatever this was she couldn't help the way her heart felt. What others thought didn't matter. They could think she was playing him but she knew that wasn't true.
Her brow furrowed a little, not sure if she wanted to ask or let it rest at that. "Maybe we can make it right for us."
"Making it right for us would help a lot," Patroclus nodded firmly. "Achilles and I- There's just been a lot of...unease. And it would be nice not to feel that any more."
She wasn't sure what to say to that. Her opinion of Achilles wasn't as high as Patroclus' and she would be careful of what she said. "What do you want, Patroclus? From me?" She needed to know everything before she could really make any choices. Deep down she knew what she wanted and what he wanted, but she needed to hear it from him.
"Nothing more than this," Patroclus smiled, dancing close to her. "This is all I need from you." Just closeness and comfort. She couldn't help with his relationship with Achilles. But she could make it seem less terrible.
Helen smiled as they grew closer. "I can do that." If he ever asked more of her she would have to think long and hard if she could.
