( &who; ) Marlene, Aerith [&] Cloud
( &where; ) Faeyn Realm - Marlene's little house
( &when; ) Shortly after them speaking to one another
( &what; ) Meeting up! ♥
( &warning(s); ) Iiii, really don't think so. :P ♥

This place wasn't so bad after all, at least not yet it wasn't. There were hundreds of flowers for the small child to play in, and pick for decor for the shabby little home she'd found and taken over as her own. The only rotten part she'd thought of just yet was the fact that she had to be dead in order to be in this area. Still, there didn't seem to be any monsters like there were in Edge, or Midgar for that matter, and everything seemed rather peaceful all around her. She'd already come in contact with a ladybug creature that was nearly the same size as herself, and a small pixie-like faerie being - which she'd simply thought was rather pretty and friendly. Now though, she remained in the small patch of yellow flowers nearby the house she'd settled in. It was the only patch of yellow flowers she'd seen for miles and miles, they were normally pink or purple and occasionally white.

Containing her excitement to see Aerith once more was something quite difficult for Marlene to do, really. She'd missed the woman she had once called 'big sis' dearly and in fact she had been one of the first people to cross Marlene's mind when she'd arrived in the Realm of the Dead. Not a day would go by that none of the people in their little group did not think of Aerith, in fact they'd begun sporting little pink strings on various areas of their bodies to continue remembering her - Marlene's was a large ribbon in her hair that was she thrilled to have no lost in her death. Though a grim subject for the child, she seemed to have already accepted it - or so it would seem. Humming a tune she was making up as she went along with it, Marlene played her fingers over the soft petals from where she sat. Soon she'd see the Cetra girl once more, and Cloud had said he'd finally found the flowers as well - maybe things were looking up after all.

There was an endless sea of flowers around her and yet she could never get tired of them. Aerith knew she had been in this place for quite a long time, but just how long was lost to her. The ticking of a clock was hardly needed in a place like this, and Aerith could understand why. At first she briefly wondered if it had been only a few days for them, or if it had been years. She hoped that they kept safe, took care of themselves when she couldn't, if they were able to continue fighting on. The thoughts had been silly and after so long they left her mind completely. But now... Now, they were beginning to appear in this place. Aerith would have been able to understand if it were only Cloud, even Vincent made sense to some degree, but Marlene was so young. It saddened her to know of the girls arrival, however she was certain that she didn't want to know how it came to be. That would only upset her more.

Aerith carefully walked around several patches of flowers, her brown boots barely making a sound against the dirt with each step. It felt like she was taking forever and the eternity of it all was itching uncomfortably at the back of her mind. I guess it's a good thing I can't die from exhaustion! The humorous thought made her giggle, despite the circumstances, and Aerith pushed herself on to trek over a small hill of pink flowers. She came to a restful halt at the top and used the opportunity to look around. Flowers for as far as she could see, but only a short distance away stood a small house by a garden of yellow that definitely stood out like a sore thumb. A satisfied smile spread across her lips and she hurried to where the girl was spotted in the patch of yellow.

Once close enough, Aerith slowed and eventually stopped to stand beside her. The flower girl leaned over, her hands resting on her knees as her long twist of hair fell over her shoulder. "I told you I'd find you!"

Marlene's thoughts for the past few days she'd been located in the Faeyn region of the Netherworld were mixed. While she was glad to have people around her that she knew as it meant comfort to the child, she was also rather saddened that they were there with her at all. In the back of her mind, the haunting feeling of the others arriving caused her stomach to ache in a manner she'd hoped wouldn't exist in this place. Why have the ability to feel pain when dead? Perhaps some sort of tease from the 'Gods' as a warning that this was not their final resting place, perhaps that it was a test of sorts. She didn't know, and it was all too much for her to think about. She wondered, though, if she'd ever see her Papa again. The only way for her to do so would be for him to die, a thought that once more caused pain in her stomach. She shook her head and glanced to the flowers once more in hopes of resolving her pain issues and simply getting those things off of her mind.

A surprised gasp came from the child's lips. She hadn't expected Aerith so soon - and she'd completely forgotten how good the older girl was at sneaking. Turning her head to look at the older of the two, Marlene beamed. It had been so long since she'd seen her, excitement filled her mind and body covering up those painful feelings from before. "You know, you would be really good at hide-and-seek! I didn't even hear you coming!" Marlene giggled, settling onto the ground. She tilted her head briefly at the flower girl, "..It really is you, right? You're not just some weird image from my head playing tricks on me, right? Promise?"

The sweetened smile didn't even falter as she knelt down beside the girl. Her appearance was a drastic change from the child she had once sought to protect, but those were the easier days of simply fighting ShinRa and she was sure that was ages ago now. What had caught her off guard the most was the strong resemblance in her own hair style, and she idly wondered what had brought this on. The answer was more than obvious and Aerith brushed the thought from her mind. "Well, I've been known to play a mean game of hide-and-seek in my younger days," she joked with her, laughing lightly at her own memories. It might not have been considered a game back then since the Turks had been her 'partners' in such, but she was proud in that she'd still managed to win every time.

Widened green eyes blinked at the question, but her features soon relaxed and her gaze dropped to the flowers. One arm shifted free from its curled position and her fingertips touching lightly to the petals of one of the yellow flowers between the two girls. Aerith had never wanted to leave the young girl behind, nor any of the others. She couldn't say she didn't have a choice, but the decision she had made so long ago had held good intentions and the young girls prolonged life in mind. After the short silence, Aerith plucked the flower mid-stem and twirled it between her fingers before tucking it behind Marlene's ear. "I'm really here, and I won't go away again, all right?" Her softened smile brightened and she placed her hand over Marlene's, a reassurance that she was truly there. "I promise."

Believing her about her hide-and-seek games, Marlene chuckled. Aerith had mentioned about hiding from someone, but she couldn't really remember who she had been hiding from. Well, now that she was down here she didn't have to hide anymore, unless she was looking forward to playing games with Marlene - which was perfectly fine with the small girl. She watched as Aerith fell silent, perhaps her question wasn't something she should have asked her. It was somewhat rude now that she thought about it, but - to Marlene it was valid. She'd dreamed of her 'big sis' a few times ever since her passing and seeing her was something difficult for the child to deal with, especially since she assumed Aerith would vanish like she did in her dreams all the time. A small blush lit her cheeks when the flower was placed behind her ear and she smiled to the older girl. "I'm glad.. ..I don't want you to disappear again." she paused and lifted her hand to brush her fingertips against the flower petals against her skin. "Are you all alone here, Aerith? I mean.. Before I got here? And Cloud? And Uncle Vincent?"

She giggled at Marlene's reaction and reached out to pat her lightly on the head. "I won't disappear," she assured her, "and if I'm ever away and you want me, just yell for me and I'll find a way to get back to you." Aerith slowly stood back up, brushing down the creases in her dress before folding her hands behind her back. Now that was an odd question from the child, though she supposed she would wonder the same if it were the other way around. To be dead was one thing, but to be alone in the afterlife would have been the most terrible outcome. "No, not before," she replied thoughtfully, tilting her head to the side as she tried to come up with the best way to explain it.

"I had an old friend with me." If Zack could still be called that. She could recall the feelings she still felt for him, but it was difficult to go back to the way they used to be. Cloud had reminded her of Zack so much, but after being with the blond in Zack's absence she had noted their differences and came to like Cloud as well. "I don't know where he is now, though." Her emerald gaze focused on the small girl and she shrugged helplessly, offering an apologetic smile. "But it's okay, because I'm with you now." Her thoughts flitted over the other two of their friends that were lost in this world and her lips tugged down in a small frown. She knew she wouldn't feel the worrying twists in her stomach once they were found, but how long would that take? "After we find Cloud, how about we look for Uncle Vincent, too? I bet he's really lonely out here without us!"

"Alright!" the small girl chirped in response. Since they were both here and under the same circumstances, Marlene assumed that Aerith was right about not disappearing again. Where could she disappear to even if she wanted too? Her gaze followed the other female's hands to her dress where the child's eyes widened somewhat. There was a hole in Aerith's dress, wasn't there? She blinked - nearly leaning forward to have a closer look but thinking better of it. She frowned, that must have been how Aerith died? Strange. Did that mean Marlene also had some strange marking on her telling the tale of her death? Without thinking as she listened to the older girl speak, she pressed a palm to her forehead and felt a small gasp escape her lips. Sure enough there was a large gash, cut rather deeply and spread quite wide. What an awful thing for people to see!

She hadn't been alone? Then with who? Marlene tugged her hand from her forehead to set her chin onto it while her elbow rested on her knee. "An old friend? That's good. At least you weren't all by yourself, that would be really scary!" Marlene shrugged her shoulders in response to Aerith's doing so as well and giggled softly. "'He'?" she giggled once more, thinking of how wonderful it would be to find your loved one - although a grim, at least one would be happy with their afterlife. Cloud and Vincent were here, they were also people that Marlene loved, but it pained her to know they were located here, in the Netherworld with her and Aerith. It meant they too, were dead. Well, Cloud would come for them, Marlene was sure of it. "Yeah!" She smiled, "I bet Uncle Vincent is really sad and missing all of us. Right after we find Cloud, we'll make him bring us to find Uncle Vincent too!" It was a good idea, after all, family should always be together.

Aerith watched the young girls actions with subtle interest, a look of realization making her wonder just what it was she'd found out about herself. Could she be feeling a fever? The quiet subject seemed to be dropped very quickly and Aerith let it slide for the moment, pretending that she didn't notice even as she let her gaze linger on Marlene's forehead. Her bangs hid most of what Aerith was searching for, but she quickly caught on to her discovery and the flower girl felt queasy, if for just a second before her recovery. "It isn't so scary here, you know. But I was lucky to have my friend." The giggles made Aerith laugh along with her and she shook her head quickly. "Don't start thinking anything funny now, Marlene." Barret would surely lecture her, and then probably decide it was her place to have the talk with Marlene as well, as punishment for introducing her to such a world.

She nodded along with Marlene's conclusion, her weight shifting from one leg to the other as she swayed from side to side. "Your absolutely right! He definitely needs the company, we all know how moody he can get if he's alone." Aerith made a face at Vincent's preferred solitude. Not once had she agreed with it, and he was setting a bad example for Cloud, as well! And now... Now he was most likely in a worse condition. Aerith thought about the woman he mentioned before, supposedly dead or so she had thought. If she were lucky, or unlucky depending on how one looked at it, maybe that woman would be here as well. It would be nice to see a smile on the man's face for once.

"Do you think Cloud will be happy to see us? Or sad?" She hadn't meant to ask these aloud, but the words had spouted before she could hold her tongue. "I'd like to see him again, but I wish it weren't here. This wasn't my idea of the perfect reunion, really."

Something told her that she had hit a spot she shouldn't talk about and respecting that Marlene simply smiled and chose to ignore Aerith's mention that her friend had been a boy, even though deep inside somewhere she had the urge to tease her and make kissy noises she held back. Something also told her if her Papa were there, she'd be getting a talking too for ever the thought of teasing Aerith, or even thinking the things she had about being happy to be in the Realm of the Dead if it meant being with family and loved ones. She nearly frowned, but refrained. "Have you seen the big big ladybugs yet, Aerith? They're almost as big as me! No lie!" For some reason the strange creatures of this place had become something exciting and new for the young lady.

Marlene made a strange grimace at the mention of Vincent's mood and loneliness that was more teasing than anything. "He can be kind of grumpy, can't he? Uncle Vincent isn't always so grumpy though!" She nodded to herself, mostly. Although Marlene had to agree with Aerith, Vincent's constant sorrow was depressing and very hard for her to watch - she hated it when her friends and loved ones were sad, it was likely that Vincent was even more sad now that he was here. Especially if his ladyfriend wasn't there with him.

Glancing up to the flower girl, Marlene smiled. "I think he'll.. Be both." she shrugged. The pint sized girl looked down to the flowers below and played her fingertips over them gently. Once more she shrugged, "It's.. It's really not a good reunion, is it?" She paused to stare into the flowers. With a sigh, she looked up to Aerith - tears welling in her eyes. "It's.. it's really a horrible reunion isn't it? Papa.. And Tifa.. And Denzel.. They all must be so sad.." She choked and pressed both heels of her palms into her face to cover up her eyes as she sniffled and whimpered. "It's really the most awful kind of family reunion in the whole world!"

She certainly didn't have the same child's mind like she used to, but Aerith was proud of this (although saddened that she wasn't able to see her grow up into this young lady). A fingernail tapped lightly against her chin in thought as she let her gaze wander the area, as if searching for these creatures that Marlene was asking of. "Big ladybugs? No, not yet... I ran into a very funny looking bird, though! It was friendly enough, I think." All considering it hadn't attacked her, merely gave her a curious look and fled the moment the flower girl had moved. Her hands soon clasped together in front of herself and Aerith smiled cheerfully as she said, "I wish I could see a ladybug as big as you. I hope it's just as cute, too!"

At their humorous insults against the gunslinger, Aerith nodded in agreement with a light laugh. "Oh, he can be grumpy and cranky all at once! It's very rare to see him otherwise, but I bet even he can't resist your charm." No, it would be impossible for Aerith to find a single person, living or dead, that couldn't feel some semblance of peace with the small girl. Holy help them if she ever did; Aerith wouldn't stand for anyone to feel any kind of malice near her, no matter what.

Her brightened expression turned worried when she realized she'd somehow upset the younger of the two. "No, no... It's not horrible," she immediately murmured while dropping to her knees once again. Her arms circled protectively around Marlene as she held her close, patting her lightly on the back while she leaned her cheek against the top of her head. "We're together again, aren't we? It's not bad, this is a nice reunion because I missed you all so much." She couldn't say the others still alive wouldn't mourn, but she wouldn't have to lie to reassure her of their happiness. "They'll be sad for a while, but they'll know you're here with us now. With people that love you just as much as they do, and then they'll be happy. So don't cry, Marlene..."

It wasn't the best of reunions due to the circumstances and it was somewhat wrong for the small girl to be happy about being there, where Aerith and Cloud were. She shook her head softly, rubbing her eyes with her palms. "They're going to be so sad, I wonder if anyone even knows yet?" It had been a few days since she had passed, but.. How was she to know if the others knew, or had found her? Was there even a body for them to find? She was so confused. "..you really think they'll be OK? Cloud isn't there to protect them anymore and neither is Uncle Vincent. And now.." She paused to allow herself to slide her arms around the older girl like she had done to herself. "..Yeah.. They'll be OK.. Tifa can take care of everyone.."

Perhaps it was time to change the subject just a bit, at least - time to stop thinking about such sad things, she could try anyway. With a weak smile she muttered, "A bird? Really?" Marlene hadn't gotten to see any birds yet, just the ladybug and the faeries. She wondered what the bird looked like, it must have been friendly enough if Aerith liked it. "I've seen some faeries too, they sparkle when they fly.." After thought she added: "the ladybugs were cute. Big, but cute.." She wondered why they were so big when the flowers were so small, the bugs would likely crush the flowers if they tried to sit on them like normal, small ladybugs did.

"I know they're fine," she murmured quietly, continuing to do her best to soothe her. "Tifa's strong, she'll be all right, and everyone else will follow her lead." Aerith worried over Tifa the most out of the others she knew to be living and well. True, the other woman was very strong and capable of being on her own, but considering she'd lost Cloud and Marlene... She couldn't even imagine how the woman must be feeling now. Aerith wanted to be able to go to the barmaid and tell her they were all right and with her, but there was no way to do that now. Bright green eyes closed for a moment to push the feelings back before she pulled away from Marlene enough to look at her and flash a smile. "So no more tears. We don't want Cloud to see us crying now, do we? You know how he gets."

It wasn't hard to picture faeries in a place like this, even Aerith liked to believe there were such things, but the big ladybugs would have to be somewhat creepy. Sure, when they were small they were pretty to look at, but if something like that were as big as the child she was with now... The flower girl had to resist a shudder at the thought of the bug-y legs twitching and big, black eyes staring at her. She didn't have to be a fan of insects, she just didn't want them hurt either. "Sparkling faeries? Aw, I can't believe I missed those!" Her lower lip protruded in a pout, but she seemed to recover quickly. "The bird I saw was big and pink, just my type! They're a bit shy, I think... At least, that one was," she continued, going by her memory of the skittish creature.

"Maybe we can try catching one next time. Cloud would like a faery, don't you think so? And Vincent will definitely need a ladybug to help cheer him up!"

She nodded gently, Aerith was right after all. Tifa was a strong girl, she could take care of Denzel and everyone else. Everything would be fine, Marlene had to believe her because there was nothing else she could do. There was no way of talking to Tifa and letting her know everyone was safe and together, she would have to hope that Tifa would know for herself that Aerith was here with Marlene and so was Cloud. Nothing would happen with Cloud around to protect them, not thing anything could really happen to grave in the Realm of the Dead, now could it? "You're right," Marlene sniffled softly, rubbing her eyes in hopes of wiping away all the tears remaining there. "Cloud would be sad if he saw us being sad."

Marlene giggled softly at the pout on the older girl's lips, "I've only seen the faeries once." she glanced around to the flowers around herself in hopes of suddenly seeing a few pop out of the flower patches - but there was none to be seen. "Maybe they'll come back!" Marlene certainly hoped so, they had been very cute and very friendly to her when she'd seen them the first time, she didn't think they'd be hostile all of a sudden or anything. "A big pink bird? That sounds really pretty! I hope I get to see one.." She offered her best smile, starting to feel somewhat better than she had been before.

Her eyes lit up at the notion of catching them. "Oh yeah! That would be really fun! I bet Cloud would really like a sparkly faerie and Uncle Vincent could use the company of a cute ladybug!"

Aerith helped to wipe away any stubborn tears from the girls eyes then released her to stand up once more. "That's right," she added, brushing loose strands of hair away from her green eyes. "And I think he's had enough sadness, so let's make sure to smile for him as much as we can. I think he'd like that." In life she had always tried to smile for the blond man, but she was sure there wasn't once that he couldn't tell what she was truly feeling.

"Hmm, maybe the faeries are shy," she mused, folding her arms carefully over her own fatal wound. Nothing seemed very hostile in this area, but Vincent had mentioned monsters when she'd spoken to him so it was a possibility something here could be dangerous. "Well, I can't blame them too much, I guess. I'm sure I would be a little shy if a group of new beings were tromping around my flowers, too." She always got so upset when people stepped on her flowers back in the church, and some SOLDIERs certainly liked falling from the sky into them. "Maybe, if we stay still long enough, we can get one of the birds to come up to us." Since time was not an issue, she was sure they could pull it off with a little patience.

Aerith lifted a finger to her lips, winking as she murmured, "but we can't tell them until we can catch the faeries and ladybugs. It'll ruin the surprise!"

To Cloud, it felt like he had been walking days, maybe weeks, but in reality it wasn't all that long before he spotted the bright patch of yellow next to a small thing that looked like a house. So, there it was, just like Marlene had said... at this point, he figured it would take a few more minutes, maybe fifteen, to get there.

There were people there... and, was there something moving and pink among the yellow? He just couldn't tell at this distance yet, but a feeling of elation mixed with melancholy rose in his chest. He waved, hoping that it would be seen.

Nodding softly and feeling a bit better, she agreed. Cloud needed all the happiness he could get now that he was down here with Marlene and the others. With Aerith helping her to make him happy there was just no way Cloud could stay sad, right? "Yeah, we'll smile lots and lots and he won't have a reason to frown after that!" She liked to think it was a perfect plan, it had to be - there wasn't much else she could do to keep Cloud from being sad and lonely.

Like the older woman, Marlene wasn't fond of people stepping and trampling all over flowers. But it was kind of hard to do with all the flowers so clustered all over this place, she hoped she wouldn't run all over too many of them, it would be sad to know she was at fault for destroying some faeries home - or some other various wildlife in the area. Who knew what else there was in this place? Marlene's hands clapped together in front of her own lips, offering the wink back to Aerith. "OK! It's a promise!" She'd always been good at keeping most secrets, this would be no different. At least, she hoped not. The look on Cloud's face when she'd present him with a faerie would be rather worth it to the young girl.

Suddenly, the pint-sized girl's eyes widened and her smile grew all the brighter. "Cloud!! It's Cloud!" She exclaimed, reaching not one but both hands up into the air at the blond and waving them frantically back and forth. "He found us!" Feeling all the more excited she laughed and looked to Aerith as she flailed her arms about in Cloud's direction. "I knew he'd find us!"

"Exactly!" Aerith grinned, glad to have brought her out of her glum mood. In a place like this it was nice to have a goal of sorts, even if it was something as small as smiling for someone else. That may have been insignificant for some people, but to Aerith it would mean enough to keep going, and as long as she didn't cause him anymore sadness than she would be fine. The churning discontent in her stomach fell away with ease in lew of their promise and Aerith had to guiltily admit she was happy to have Marlene there; even in death the childs charm somehow made this much more acceptable.

She'd nearly frozen as Marlene exclaimed Cloud's arrival. Whether it was her imagination or by some stroke of luck, her heart managed to skip two beats. There had never been any room for doubt when it came to the ex-SOLDIER, she knew he would find them if he said he would, but a part of her had been in denial. She'd denied the fact that he was really here and hoped it was merely the afterlife playing tricks on her and she took it with a smile, but now here he was.

Aerith kept her smile spread across her lips as she slowly turned to see the blond man approaching. "Of course," she said softly, her hands clasping behind her back as her head tilted to the side a fraction. "I never doubted him."

Cloud's heart lifted when Marlene waved back, but fell a little at the little voice in the back of his head saying it was all his fault, if only he had been there she wouldn't be dead... Aerith wouldn't be dead.

That didn't stop him from running the last few steps and tackling both girls in a hug, feeling a little silly at the display, but... right now, he just didn't care. They were here, with him, and they were all right. And, he hadn't seen Aerith in so long...

"I'm here... sorry for taking so long." Always pessimistic, he was.

Marlene glanced up towards Aerith when her voice got so quiet. She wondered if the older girl was upset to see Cloud, though the child couldn't blame her. This wasn't really the best of reunions after all, reunions led from death didn't make for the best memories of one's life - if one could call it during their life. She had been about to ask Aerith if she was alright when something heavy and bulky collided with her small frame, forcing her to the ground with a loud 'Oof!' followed by the thud that came with it. She laughed. Cloud didn't really the type to do this kind of thing - well, not often anyway, which made her laugh all the more. But she was glad, so glad that he was there. And Aerith. She didn't feel so alone anymore. Now all they had to do was find Vincent and everything would be alright! As best as it could be at least.

She'd nearly had the breath knocked out of her when Cloud suddenly hugged the pair. Aerith let out a gasp of surprise, but her arms instinctively lifted to wrap loosely around his neck in return. "You've kept me waiting," she replied, teasing with a small smile. There was a strong sense of relief that he was truly here with her, but a pang of sadness reminded her the cost of his arrival. Her grip around him tightened at the thought alone and she shook her head slightly.

"I wish there had been another way," she murmured, though she couldn't let her smile falter. "For the both of you. Any other way than this..."

"Sorry... I keep screwing things up." Cloud said, blinking back tears at the two, seeing their faces again brought so much regret to the surface. If only he had been stronger, things wouldn't have turned out like this. "It's my own fault, but it would have happened in the end... right? S-so... don't be sad because of me."
