Noah hated hospitals.
The last time he'd been in one had been to identify Julia, so he didn't have the best of associations. It wasn't the fault of the hospital, and he knew that it was necessary and valuable, but still, just walking into one sent a shudder creeping over his skin.
He stepped out of the elevator. Even this late at night, the halls buzzed with people, the result of so many people coming in with a reaction to the serum. Absently he rubbed his own arm, but so far, he seemed free of any ill effects. Thank goodness for small favors.
Walking down the hall, he counted room numbers until he came to Jae-Mi's, which she shared with another woman. The door was half-open, and he peered around it. The first bed was the other patient, who had company of her own. The curtain between the beds had been drawn for some semblance of privacy, so Jae-Mi was behind it, in the bed next to the window.
Nodding at the woman in the first bed, he stepped around until he could see the second bed, and Jae-Mi. She looked so small and pale, listless and drained of the energy he associated with her. Her eyes were closed, but she didn't really look as if she slept.
Noah stepped closer. If she was sleeping, he'd leave a note saying he'd been there. "Jae-Mi?" he asked softly.
