The majority of mutants in the world are just confused, scared people who were born with the Mutant X gene. While Xavier leads off his team to defeat Magneto, the rest of them are just living day to day with their jobs, their families and friends, and a world who doesn't completely understand them.
NYX is a borough within New York City. Some folks call it Mutie Town, while some higher-ups in the government labeled it officially as District X. Call it what you wish. The rise in Manhattan's mutant population, coupled with racism among normal humans, led to mutants forming their own community, forming a sort of haven for any and all mutants. Humans also live here, but are actually a minority and -- in a flip of irony -- risk their own lives from mutants who may wish to force them out.
Mutant-owned businesses. Mutant-owned homes. Mutant-owned everything. For some, it was paradise... If with a few kinks to work out.
First, Magneto's attack on the human citizens itself. While it never got far enough to reach the borough, the question raged through the buildings: what if he had succeeded. It wasn't the first time the sides of mutant co-existence or mutant-only survival had been brought up, but NYX survived...
Until it very nearly collapsed with the mental onslaught brought on by the capture and misuse of Xavier's Cerebro machine. The act rocked the entire community to its core, leaving some feeling insecure and needing even more protection. Gangs were formed, and now roam NYX at free will, threatening both humans and their supporters. In NYX, the tables have turned for homo sapien.
Now, another crisis has arrived on their doorstep -- with the arrival of the cure, and the bloody battle that followed it, the inhabitants of NYX must ask themselves. Take the cure to rid themselves of the gene that has followed them nearly every step of their lives, or to stand proud for what may very well get them killed?
While the X-Men and Brotherhood mourn the loss of their leaders, these are the mutants left behind. How will they keep going in this post M-day world?
It's up to you.
NYX is a movie-verse RPG, taking place directly after the events in X-Men 3. Comics knowledge is a bonus and comics elements will doubtlessly be used - but knowledge of the movies is required. Although several comic canon elements have also been introduced, such as minor plot lines and obscure characters who never appeared in the X-Men films, this is mostly an Original Character RPG. Heavily character-based, there is no one plot arc set in stone as the game focuses more on it's characters than the world around them. Despite this, we are not against action-based plots, and there is no guarantee that we will not involve either the X-Men or the Brotherhood in any plot.
