nsfw image host

[info]twistedsamurai
[info]mysticwish
Hey so this is a relevant time to post this

If you need a place to post & link to your nsfw imagery feel free to use pixxxels, it works just like postimage.

Now why do I say this is relevant? Because I plan on posting the archive of Mystic Wish's "Godot's Coffee House" -- a section for NSFW discussions. These are from around 2009 to 2011 at the latest, maybe? So many of these posts are several years old, many of us were fairly different back then. A lot of roleplay and shitposting. I'll be uploading screencaps from the forum, but for the most part the focus will be on reuploading the text. [I've occasionally edited out an odd typo or misgendering, as well as a handful of posts with weirdly personal info.]

With that I'll be making a super minor change to how I want adult content handled here, so please look here and re-familiarise yourself with the rules if you want to post adult content yourself [hi newcomers from the forum c: feel free to post an intro entry or anything you want].

Mystic Wishcord

[info]twistedsamurai
[info]mysticwish
Ever since I created this IJ I've been really wanting to create a discord server for Mystic Wish, but a big problem is that I didn't want it to JUST be a discord. It would exclude people that didn't want to or couldn't use the platform, and it just wasn't a forum, it wouldn't be the same.

So I decided to hold back on it until I finished a forum, which I held back on finishing or figuring out ways to procrastinate, because there is a small part of me that feels like it could be too much.

But then I thought... why does it matter if it ends up being too much? So what? I had fun doing it and so far the people that have seen my work have mostly given me positive feedback. And in the end I may get something really good out of it, all that's really lost is some time and effort on my part. And now here we are.

So come in and check it out if you want. No need to be a member of anything. I'll let randos in and stuff, they will just be moderated a bit more closely.

Styling InsaneJournal

[info]tutoriel
[info]mysticwish
For a long time, I've used a browser extension that lets you install user styles for any website. That means you can write your own css for a site and apply it to only you. For me, this comes in handy because my eyes are very sensitive to bright lights, and a lot of people seem to think designing websites that look like light bulbs are a good idea. I use Stylish [Firefox] [Chrome] to install styles or write my own, if I use the site often enough and need something readable.

I'm sure you've already figured out that I've written my own style for IJ and I'm posting it here for others to use. Though it should be important to note it's a style specifically for my tastes and I'll make more with a variety of colour options at a later time.

What IJ looks like without the style, and with.

If you want the code/a guide on how to use these, feel free to read on )

some notes about nsfw content

[info]twistedsamurai
[info]mysticwish
I realised I didn't address this before and IJ allows it with some extremely loose guidelines

Obviously I don't have a problem with nsfw content, others might depending on who they are or their browsing environment, so to keep this away from the eyes that'd rather avoid it:

1. Don't use Tumblr or FurAffinity urls. Upload stuff to pixxxels or you can use imgur if you click the "adult content" box after uploading. Don't link to content that isn't on a reliable host or is known for url breakage.

2. Put NSFW content in entries under a cut and [preferably] lock the post. Make sure "show this entry to" is set to "friends" [comm members], as this is the surefire method of making sure minors can't stumble across the content. But you ALSO need to put it under a cut, so MEMBERS browsing the comm won't see the content unless they click for it.

3. Label comments. Put NSFW in the title of individual NSFW comments. If you're the type to avoid NSFW comments, look at titles before the comments, and just get in the habit of doing that. An entire entry doesn't need to be hidden if there are just a handful of NSFW comments, but if it becomes a big side-discussion, entry visibility might have to be edited or a new post made that is hidden.

This should be pretty simple & clear but if you have questions, as always, comments are open for that

MW's IJ Guide

[info]tutoriel

Mystic Wish is a community on InsaneJournal, but since there's always going to be people that have never used sites like these before, I figure it's appropriate to give a bit of a guide.

Notify Mod

[info]twistedsamurai
[info]mysticwish

Hi, I'm the mod, it's me

If you want to know the full story you can read this community-locked entry about me, but for now just call me Netkeeper and I'm the same maintainer as the personal website that used the url MysticWish.net in the late 2000s. [ Shout out to my old circle!]

Anyway, you can contact me through InsaneJournal:

If you have an account here already, PM [info]twistedsamurai for more serious concerns or just comment here

Outside of IJ?

You can still contact me on Skype, kinda, but my main one is now Discord. I have a Steam account which also supports IM. Those are the only super reliable methods that have withstood the test of time. Nothing else but an IM really makes it to me fast enough because guess what, I still never check my email

But since I can't post my IM names on a public forum, you're going to have to get them through the Mystic Wish forums. The area called "The Purple Comet" accepts posts from unregistered users so no account necessary. I also check it more often than IJ.

Hopefully that covers all the bases. If you want an IJ account get in contact with me and I can probably help you with getting an invite code

About Mystic Wish

[info]twistedsamurai
[info]mysticwish
Then Mystic Wish was just my personal website that nobody except me really gave a shit about [oh boy I gave a lot of fucking shits far too many if you ask me now lol] that I'd run from around 2008 to 2011...? I may have the years wrong, since I can't check the dates on anything the web archive didn't save 8V

The important part was the forum. It was how it really started and what people other than me gave a shit about and what people other than me probably have a lot of good memories of.

I lost the motivation and money to maintain the site and closed it when the hosting bill wasn't paid, don't think I really told anyone since nothing was happening when it went down anyway, but it wasn't exactly difficult to figure that out

For a long time I wanted to [and tried a few times] to revive that, and here we are.

Now Mystic Wish is my community on ij, a site I actually mostly use for roleplaying, but I like having my RP and non-RP areas close by and easy to maintain at the same time. Seemed like the perfect idea to bring an old community back to life by moving it somewhere else

Much like the old MW forums, this community is designed for shitposting talking about whatever bullshit you're watching or the video game you're trying to cheat at. We have a list of tags you can browse by, or look at a guide for those tags here. We've always had a strong bend towards fandom and we always will, so the various characters you see in the community designs are meant to reflect that.

But all that said, even if you've never heard of Mystic Wish at all and just want a neat community to join, you're welcome here too. We can't thrive without new blood, and you bet your ass I'm going to drag people here so if you want to join or invite your seven friends get the hell on it! [Unless they're on our blacklist.]

[info]mysticwish
Welcome to Mystic Wish. This is a personal community for whatever discussion and shitposting you want. By default, only members can comment or post, and membership to the comm is moderated by me... but I'll probably let you in. Follow the rules and be a pleasant person and you can stay.

  • Don't be a dick. Don't deliberately attempt to make anybody uncomfortable, don't argue with moderators.
  • Don't post huge images or videos without a cut.
  • Don't post nsfw content without a warning and cut.
  • We're here for you to post your own content, so if you're posting content not created by you, please leave proper credit.
  • Don't make untagged posts. Here is a list of tags you can use.
  • Stop breaking the law, asshole!

MW Tagging Guide

[info]twistedsamurai
[info]mysticwish
Now, it's usually customary for journal blogs to tag a "Tagging Guide" post with every single tag, but this makes the post come up a million times and it's easier to just post it with one tag then link to it on the sidebar smh

Anyway, here is a list of tags and descriptions of each. Don't post anything untagged. You can also go here to see links/a list of how much each tag has been used

*intro
If you're new, use this tag when you make your first post and tell us about yourself [or not, it's not required]. The * is included in the tag, it keeps it at the top of the list because intros are an important part of our community.

topic: ij
InsaneJournal-related stuff!

topic: jcink
Jcink is a free forum host. I use it a lot and I'm very familiar with it, having used it since 2011. It's also super familiar to me because it's similar to Invisionfree, the now-gone forum host that I originally hosted Mystic Wish on before moving it to Jcink.

Talk about managing a website, forum, blog, community, or some other related web thing.

📁comm files
Modposts with rules, announcements, and other information. 📁 is inserted for alphabetical ordering, include that when adding this tag

🔼canon:
Insert a canon name or shorthand at the end, here. Be careful with acronyms and try to use a single word if possible -- "zelda" for Legend of Zelda instead of "loz". As with other symboled tags, make sure you don't forget the 🔼 at the beginning, so our big list of canons is at the bottom of the alphabetized tag list.

🔼original work
Predictably, this is for original works. Art & stuff with OCs.
