One drink turned into two, suddenly Mary found herself drunk. She only meant to have one drink, Mary Campbell knew her father would disapprove. However, she was in a safe place: the bar owned by the Harvelles, and with a few young hunter friends. That, and once in awhile Mary needed fun
She was leaning back in her chair, looking a little bored and tired, when Bill walked over to clear some of the glasses off the table. Her eyes followed him as he moved, watching as he joked around with a few of the people there, and then raised a questioning brow at her.
Shrugging her shoulders she went to speak to him, but instead one of the other guys spoke up to offer to take her home. Mary went to answer, but Bill spoke up instead “Don’t worry about Mary, I’ll take her home, lets get some coffee in her first, last thing we need is her old man not letting her come around here anymore.”
“Yep, Bill's got me covered, thanks,” Mary added as she smiled at the guy, patting his arm, “I’ll see you some time soon though, promise,” Mary remarked in a promising voice and offered a smile.
The guy looked a little disappointed about not being able to take her home and nodded his head as he looked between her and Bill. "See ya then, Mary."
When he walked out the bar, Bill was back with a coffee mug handing it to her, “Mary you really shouldn’t lead men on like that, you’ll get a reputation.”
Taking the cup she made a face at him, “No, I won’t. He’s a friend nothing more, nothing less, plus I didn’t go off with him did I?” Only because Bill stopped her from doing so, she might thank him for it later.
“I’m only trying to help, last thing I need is your Pop coming unglued on my parents for you drinking here.” He remarked coolly, even if he stopped her from leaving for his own selfish reasons.
She sipped her coffee then sat the cup down yawning, she was a tired drunk it seemed, “Yeah, I know,” she sighed moving to prop her elbow on the table to hold her head up, but she missed, jarring her elbow against the table.
Bill laughed, he couldn’t help it, and shook his head at her “Let me close down and clean up, afterwards I’ll take you home,” he left the table and started to clean up, kicking out his regulars.
Mary liked Bill, he was little rough, perhaps he reminded her too much of her father, there was a chemistry there. One she wasn't she wanted to explore, two hunters in love, could be dangerous for both of them and lately Mary had found herself wanting a normal life.
