under the moonlight you see a sight that almost stop your heart;
[backdated to stupid-o-clock this morning]

Rahne had always been generally indifferent to Halloween. She could definitely see the appeal of the escapism and the dressing up, but around SaMo, the goal for Halloween seemed to be wearing as little as possible. At least for the women. And Rahne didn't particularly want to be involved in that aspect of Halloween.

Horror movie marathons, however, were something that she could definitely get behind.

After giggling her way through the atrocity that was Dracula 2000, Rahne decided that it was time for a break. As she padded down the halls of Paradise on bare feet, she could hear some of the other residents in their rooms -- laughing, talking, snoring -- on her way down to the kitchen. She left the kitchen light off -- not needed, thanks very much -- and pulled together what she needed; the kettle, a mug, the tea bags. The water had only just begun to boil when she felt the first cold rush of air. Frowning, the Scottish mutant checked the window, saw it was closed and shrugged as she turned back to the tea kettle.

The ghost swooped out of nowhere, sickly green and translucent, with a hideous, skeletal grin stretching its face wide. Rahne startled violently and the empty mug in her hand dropped, crashing into pieces on the floor as she did what any normal teenage girl would do when confronted by a gruesome ghost.

She screamed bloody murder.

Dressing up for Halloween could be fun, but especially after spending the last week inside his own head thinking he was Robin Hood, Alex wasn't really in the mood to go all-out. He'd gotten a pair of fangs from the drugstore -- their last, a testament to how ridiculously popular undead creatures were becoming -- and a little dribble of fake blood applied near his mouth was the furthest he'd gone. He'd met up with a couple of friends for a while, even stopped by a party briefly, but his own caution didn't let him stay long. Last time he'd gone to a real party, after all, it hadn't ended well. It was respectably late or reasonably early by the time he made his way back to Paradise, and he was a little bit drunk, not enough for sloppiness but just enough to get that buzz.

Too drunk to pay much attention to the way the clock over the front desk was spinning wildly though, or notice the macabre reflection of a spectre looming over his shoulder as he passed a hallway mirror. For Alex, it was just another ordinary Halloween night so far.

He'd already been on his way to the kitchen when the peace was shattered by the unmistakable sound of breaking ceramic and a girl's scream (or maybe that was Bobby). Trouble. He didn't hesitate for a second; taking off down the hallway, he skidded into the hotel kitchen with all nerves firing at high speed. Alex Summers to the rescue. There didn't seem to be anyone else in the room besides Rahne, at first glance, and he wondered for a second if it was a false alarm -- until the ghost made a second pass around her head. What the fuck? Starting forward, he grabbed her arm and pulled her back in an effort to get her behind him, planting himself between her and the ghost.

In all honesty, the fact that the specter hadn't done any kind of horrific dismemberment upon her should have been enough to calm Rahne down. Considering that this was the first ghost that she'd see in, well, ever, the general shock and mild terror was probably understandable. She had been about ready to drop to the floor as the ghost rushed at her a second time, but suddenly she was being yanked on by an Alex-shaped character. The grinning ghoul kept coming, undeterred and Rahne grabbed the back of Alex's shirt, pulling him with her as she ducked.

Hell, the thing was ugly as all get out. No telling what it would do if it touched either of them.

Fortunately, Rahne didn't get the chance to find out -- the ghost flew over both their heads and sort of vanished into the ceiling. Wide-eyed, the redhead blinked at the ceiling a few times, half expecting the ghoul to return, and then looked to Alex, flabbergasted.

"Well," was the best Rahne could come up with.
