[This goes to print after Luke has been rescued, while she's waiting for word. Byline Cipher.]
ALL MASKS ARE NOT ALIKE [Photo of the steps to City Hall, police surrounding a body left there.] Not all Masks are the same. A young Creation was found by a passerby earlier this week, her body covered in bruises and suffering from hypothermia. Just a random assault? Hardly. She was found to have tissue damage within the brain, along with a lack of water within the structure, the damage apparently caused from within the skull itself. When the passerby found the victim, there was a woman holding her with dark hair and a green mask. Yes, you read that right, Seattle. A green mask. It is the same woman who was caught on security footage after killing Vincent Walker, a high ranking Sephora executive, in October. The murder of Walker and the attack on this latest victim share one key factor - water. This Siren is obviously a Creation with some sort of water ability, Seattle. Stay away from women wearing green masks, and more importantly? Remember that not all masks are created equal. And, sometimes, even people with good intentions go too far. Those of us from Musings might remember the legend of the Sadist. As a teenager, I heard the story of the Sadist slitting a man's throat at a party, dressed in a silk suit and tie. His MO goes back thousands of years, stemming from what is rumored to be a particularly gruesome childhood. There has been no sign of him on this side of the portal, until now. The Sadist, or his Copycat, kills violent rapists and leaves the bodies in highly visible locations - the police department, City Hall and art museums. The most recent killing, a man in his thirties, was dumped on the steps of City Hall, along with a white calling card proclaiming for remembrance, as a reminder, a note similar to the one left by the Sadist in Musings. It's easy to think this Copycat is on our side, helping keep our streets sane. As a teenager, I thought the same thing. But I was wrong, Seattle. This is not justice. It's vengeance wearing the mask of justice. I'm often called out by the members of the Seattle Police Department for not giving them credit, for not trusting them to take care of the escalating violence on our streets. Well, men and women in blue, what are you planning on doing about these two? If you don't want Masks doing your jobs, then you need to do them yourselves. Barring that, working with the true Masks of Seattle is, I think, a pretty sound alternative. We can only right these wrongs by working together, which can't happen with the manhunts and APBs in effect. Is that really what we want? How many people have to die in the name of pride?
