________________________________________
It is Friday again, which means my Raymondo II is coming over with his Benton. Tonight I am fixing something that hopefully will put some meat on his bones. Lasagna. He liked it enough to take left overs last time, but with that Diefenbaker, it is hard to make sure he eats them. One must wonder if he eats anything beyond that teeth rotting candy.
The bell tolls and I know it is Francesca back from Jackie with the roast for tomorrow's dinner. Today was her nail appointment with the salon and she won't risk using the handle. That reminds me, tomorrow is my day with Umberto, that cute little gay hair dresser. I love the way he does my hair.
Answering the door, I am surprised to find in my Fran's stead, Raymondo II and Benton. They are smiling for a change. Something must have happened, I can feel it. A mother knows these things, even if they aren't mine, I still know. "You look like that cat that ate the canary, Raymondo, fess up, what have you two done?"
I give them my evil eye. It usually is enough to make them squirm. Today, I have to add the crossed arms, and the stand that says 'I'm not movin until you come clean, Mister, or else!'
He blushes at me. Both of them do. Could it be something good for a change? Lord knows they are not so much for the easy times, but even a cop has a good day every once in a great, extremely long while. So, I am assuming it is good news, and it is about them.
Benton takes off his hat, places it to his chest and begins. "You see, Mrs. Vecchio..."
"Please, Benton, I told you, call me Ma. Now enough of this suspense, tell me what is going on. You are giving me gray hair with this worry. Not a word Raymondo!" I give my other Raymondo the evil eye as he stands behind me.
He stops, folds his arms, and smirks. "Hey, Stanley, what'd you get your prick caught in this time? Ow, Ma, stop that!"
I smack him upside the head with my wooden spoon kept secretly in the apron for just such occasions. "You apologize to Raymondo this instant, Raymondo! I won't have you using that language in my house, either, you're not too big that I can't take you over my knee!" To emphasize my point, I smack him again and threaten him with more. Such a disrespectful boy!
It is as I turn to apologize to Raymondo II that I realize they had not said a word since Raymondo had a case of diarrhea of the mouth. They have both gone bright red again. It takes only a moment for me to put it together. Only one thing comes to mind. "Best wait until after desert before you tell Francesca."
With that, I usher them in and take their offered wine bottle. A nice vintage, but it appears we will be taking something a bit stronger tonight. Walking back to the kitchen, I grab Raymondo's extra holster and lock it in the pantry. Better safe than sorry.
I believe I am no longer looking forward as much to tonight as I had planned. I just wished she had gotten herself a decent man and gotten over Benton long ago. Poor Benton and Raymondo II deserve more than the screaming match that I know will be happening after dinner.
Lord god in heaven, if you see fit to spare me, make her fall in love before she gets back from the butcher. And, if you are feeling merciful, please not another Mountie.

Well, it wasn't as bad as I thought. We only had to pry her off Raymondo II three times before she gave up. Her nails will have to be redone by Mai Lee again, but I believe not even she can save the one she left imbedded in his... Rolls. Yes, his rolls. Maria and Tony congratulated them and to my surprise, so did Raymondo. I am so proud of my bright boys and angelic Maria. All five would make any mother proud. Francesca is trying at times, but I love her for it all the more.
Benton has promised to make sure Raymondo II eats more. I have complete faith in his ability to control Raymondo II. At last, they have found someone to love, again.
I thank you, god in heaven, for all you have blessed my family. Maria and Tony with their kids make me haggard at times, but I count my blessing each time I see them. Your work in answering my prayers earlier seems to be as wondrous as ever as Francesca seems to be sporting a few badly covered love bites. It did not help that Raymondo II splashed her foundation with that paint thinner Raymondo calls whiskey, but I see your hand in it and thank you.
You work in mysterious ways, indeed.
Now, if only you could see fit as to find someone for my Raymondo.... He is sneaking out right now. I sniff the air, he is wearing that fancy cologne he brought back from sin city. I guess I have nothing more to ask for.
Thank you, and take care of my dear husband, which ever place he might be.
The End....
