Who: Marco & OPEN! When: A little after noon Where: Out in the front yard
It wasn't like there wasn't anything to be worrying about today. Even putting his conversation with Vanessa the day before out of his mind, there was still probably plenty to worry about. The power was still doing things, which Marco really hoped would remain an issue for just when things were popping out of the dark. Earlier, he'd seen a collection of Easter bunnies in the foyer, reminding him of his mix-up with Chase and Kiley the day before, and how it hadn't occurred to him to go check on them. Today, he'd seen the bunnies and tried to rush to help, but by the time he got down the stairs, all the bunnies had scattered. He hoped that that meant that it was just another weird Zenith thing, and not some guilt trip hallucination, but he wasn't sure. Maybe he'd check in with Chase and Kiley later.
Not now, though. Now it was sled time.
Marco had wanted this fucking sled for a while now. Probably since winter started. He had expected that as soon as he got the damn thing, the snow would stop, making the thing useless. Instead, it seemed that he was getting one last snow, and one last chance to finally try the one winter activity that had eluded him until now. He'd gotten close with Kiley and the cookie sheets, but now, this was really happening. And he was excited.
Standing outside, he wondered if maybe he should have told someone he was heading out. Maybe left a note on the network, or something? It was probably fine. It was a sled, not the snowmobile. What was the worst that could happen?
The sled was pretty cool, too. Even though he'd requested something durable, he expected that TPTB would give him some Dollar Store pool float, or a standard rubber inner tube that he'd just barely fit on. Instead, he got what was requested: a durable, large round inner tube, that he could probably share with someone if they didn't mind squishing up against him. The whole thing was bright red and orange, almost like his hat, so if he flew off the thing it wasn't like he wouldn't find it again. It also seemed like it would be just fine to use in the pool over summer, though it felt weird to imagine being here during summer. He had no idea what the temperature would be like in a place like this, where they had to be pretty far north for it to still be snowing.
But, then again, who even knew what day it actually was? It wasn't like they hadn't lied about holidays before.
But all of that was for later. For now, it was sledding time. He dragged the sled out to the front yard, and then down towards the hill to town. Would he actually make it to town on this thing? Probably not, if just because of the curves in the road. Marco didn't know if he could actually steer the sled, but what did it matter? He dropped the sled at the top of the hill, then picked it up again, then repeated the motion a couple more times, trying to settle on the best way to do this, before holding onto it and taking a few steps back. He took a running start, throwing himself onto the sled, belly down. And down the hill he went. Not too far, but farther than he had gotten on the cookie tray. Much farther. He only stopped when he drifted onto the cleared section of the road, and with little hesitation, he climbed off the sled and dragged it back up to the top of the hill to give it another go, wondering if he'd do better to aim for the snowbanks that Oliver had mentioned once. Had he told him to avoid them? Whatever. This was fun.
