"Didn't you see them? Although they did slip out pretty quietly."

She grinned, even though her mother couldn't see it.

"I bet he is, but the dark had to be great, huh? Does it? Well, I'm glad then. Why do you ask?"

Kia loved making her mother happy. She knew she didn't do it all that often.

"Oh, I saw them... Just not leaving together."

She shuddered lightly at the thought, slouching the slightest bit in her seat as she tried not to think about her discussion with her brother earlier. It made her angry, and annoyed her, and if she thought too hard on it, it was going to make her extremely sad... and that just wasn't a pretty thought.

"You know, I envy you the relationship you have with your siblings... all of you. It's nice to see..." Even if the one thing they probably bonded over was a dislike of their mother... at least they still spoke.

"The dark was nice... very nice. And you shouldn't sound so surprised, poppet. I know I'm not winning any parenting awards, but you do matter to me. And so what you think matters to me. I guess I ask because I know not everyone's going to be happy if we stay together, or take it any further... And I'm trying not to be selfish about it. I've got a lot of making up to do, I think."

"When did you see them?"

The only other time Kia had seen Momos and Ate together had been in the kitchen...oh. Looks like she was going to have to teach her sister how to lock a door.

"We love each other...mostly. You can't live in tight quarters for very long without learning how to at least tolerate one another."

You do matter to me. Five little words, and Kia's mood completely lifted. Not that she'd be depressed before, but they made her feel completely loved.

"Oh, I think you are doing loads better, mom. And I think that even if we all hated it? I wouldn't want you to stop being with someone that you loved just because we disapproved. That seems...wrong."

"Maybe it's proximity... I used to get along with my family, but now they all hate me. C'est la vie, right? Still, tolerance is important. I do wish you all weren't so hard on your brother, but that's between you all."

She eyed Kia lightly, considering... rather certain that if anyone had the info she wanted, it would be her middle child. Ate might be the mother hen keeping tabs on everyone, and Lethe may be the confessor to some... but Kia was the one who had the good dirt.

"You know something, don't you? I could threaten to send you to bed without dessert if you didn't spill it, you know..."
