She stepped out of the temple on Othrys and began walking up a path ignoring the lovely scenery that had sprung up into bloom since her last visit. The path was probably quite lovely if one was meandering along on a nice sunny day... Aphrodite, however, was more akin to being on a war path. She walked in silence, Deimos beside her as she made her way over once-familiar paths until she stood in front of the largest temple, hands sinking to her hips as she glared for a moment, before calling out.

"Cronus!"

She had come even quicker than he'd expected. Cronus let her bellow before appearing on the steps of his Temple.

"Aphrodite. How lovely." He came roughly halfway down the steps, pausing a respectable distance from the goddess and her son. "I trust everything is well?"

"Deimos, baby... Meet Cronus."

She eyed the Titan, a smirk growing on her lips. "Oh, things are fine. Spell worked like a charm. Funny thing, though... Seems to be a bit of a glitch..."

"Hello, Deimos. Where's the lighting to your thunder?"

Cronus' attention rested only a moment on Dite's child. As his gaze fell on the goddess he raised an eyebrow cautiously. "A glitch? Do tell."

Deimos, tilted his head to one side, eyeing Cronus for a long moment. He looked.... old. Kind of small, too, considering.

The Daimon mock-bowed, smirking slightly at the query thrown his direction. He knew he hardly registered as a side show in Cronus's book, "Greetings, Cronus. I see you know me, but I assure you, Phobos is never far from me."

He watched the play of tension off his mother's slender shoulderblades, standing just a half step behind her. Not for the purpose of looming like some guardian angel, but because Dei knew very well that Dite could take care of herself.

"Please... I'm sure you're quite aware of what I speak." Her brow lifted as well, mirroring his.

"Do you wish to explain why time has seemed to become frozen?"

His carefully-kept neutral expression slowly dissolved into a warm smile. "Time is only frozen as far as we're concerned. For everyone, well, everything else, the next moment will come just as the last did."

We walked down the rest of the steps, but did not go to the pair, rather towards a slender linden tree. "You see, everything has changed, Aphrodite. For the first time since... well, since before I have any recollection, there is no ruler of creation. I usurped that throne from my father. Zeus, Poseidon, Hades - they all usurped my throne, broke it into three."

He came near to the tree, then started to hook right, moving onto the path behind the pair. "There were some internecine wars since then, various gods out of place, but always at least some part of the throne was held. But today, when you read the spell, the Fates restarted it all. Everything back to the basics. We all return to our rightful selves, and no one is king... not yet anyway."

He continued his arc, coming up and round them on the opposite side, finally coming to sit on a large rock that lined the edge of the path. "So now creation waits, while we simple keepers of the cosmos sort out our little catastrophe. I mean really, can there be time, a progression of moments, without godhead? In a sense I am flattered really. It is a lovely confirmation of how important we all are to the order of things."

That kind, fatherly smile returned once again. “Do not think that I have left you out in the rain though, sweet Dite. I set into motion a subtle work, one that will bring a triumvirate together that will set all things right. This time, no war can decide the outcome, only democracy.”

Deimos remained still and seemingly disinterested as Cronus spiraled around he and Dite. But he watched the God, pale eyes unfocused with the effort of following Cronus's motion from his periphery. The way the older God circled both Dei and his mum spoke of threat and intimidation, and everything, every iota inside Deimos that was of his father's seed urged for him to respond.

Nobody tried to intimidate Terror. Not if they wanted to see another day with their larynx intact.

But Deimos did not move, and greatly to his credit. He may be a child of war, but he was also Dite's son, and he knew a fight he could not win when he saw it. The Daimon angled his chin slowly when his periphery saw Cronus taking a seat, eyes refocusing on the older Deity. Deimos relaxed the line of his lips in a subtle effort to ease the itch between his shoulder blades, the one that said to him: Draw your Sword. It would be a mistake, he knew, and probably the last he'd ever make.

Half listening to Cronus's words, Dei caught the finishing comment about the new arrangement of power and scowled. No Wars, Cronus had said.

"Democracy," The daimon sneered beneath his breath. Democracy was an excuse for the weak to gain power. Gods, this was going to blow.

"Ahh... I see."

She nodded slowly, Quiet as he made his ring around the tree, not bothering to turn to watch him... he had a captive audience, and he knew it. there was only so much she was willing to give at the moment. Her body shift as she centered her weight over one foot, hip jutting out a bit as her hand rested on it, voice soft as she spoke.

"So... You take the throne by force... You get to be king. Zeus takes the throne by force... Zeus gets to be king. I come along, Take the throne using no force, and no war... But I don't get to be King? Am I understanding this correctly, Cronus?"

She eyed him as he took his seat, eyes flashing for a moment as she lifted her chin, gaze shifting downward to keep him in her sights.

"And what's to say whatever answer this triumvirate throws down will hold, Cronus? Democracy is all well and good, save two things. The Pantheon is a kingdom, not a republic. We do not vote on how to handle things. Second... Democracy only works so long as it offers favorable outcomes to a majority of those involved. They don't stop wars. But it sure is nice to be remembered."

"You and your mother sneer at this notion, Deimos? But why? This tradition is as old as the first civilization that worshipped you?"

"As for permanency, well, we all know that is not a possibility. The triumvirate's decision will break this hold on time by putting three rulers on three thrones. Aside from that, you are right. There is nothing to make it hold, per se. One would hope that the decisions were good ones, and that the will of the gods would only strengthen the troika and avoid another bloody, unnecessary conflict. But even if the decisions are bad, at least there was a chance to avoid war, and it was a chance we took."

"And before you even ask, there is no way for me to assume one of the thrones, even if the tirumvirate wished it. I purposely removed myself from consideration, along with the three. It is impossible for any of us to become regents."

With that he hoisted himself off the rock, wiping his hands clean before looking at Dite again, this time with a sharpness not seen before. "As for your... taking of the throne without force. All I have to say to that little sentiment is that at least I looked my father... your father... in the eye before I gutted him."

He closed to within arms length of the goddess and her offspring. "I wonder if Poseidon was given a similar honor?"

This time Deimos did move. Efficient and quick, he stepped around to face Cronus, placing himself between his mother and the older Titan God with carefully rigid shoulders and a stillness that suggested he was waiting for a reason to move. The Daimon couldn't be coined as a particularly chivalrous creature (even if he were, Dite would hardly appreciate such an archaic gesture now), but he was a soldier, and he knew when to place himself at the disposal of his commanders.

Plus, he just really wanted to get in Cronus's face.

"I would not insult my mother, were I you." He said quietly, his eyes like glass. "Do not suppose she is in any way diminished because she did not have the arrogant desire to rub her opponent's defeat in their faces like you did."

Deimos's tone grew louder, eyebrows arching and chin tilting with mock playfulness. "And of course I sneer at such a preposterous tradition. Just because it is apparently old doesn't mean it's right..." He shot Cronus a significant look. "Who is to say we can trust a spell to choose the proper rulers of our Kingdom anyway? At least when my parents took the throne, we knew they were actually interested in ruling."

Cronus' words did little to appease her, and she was prepared to retaliate when Deimos stepped up between them. Even in her annoyance she appreciated his intent, reaching forward to gently rub between his shoulder blades, fingers scritching right where wings would meet if he had them.

"I do not sneer at the idea of democracy, Cronus... I simply feel that it has no place in what is, by definition, a monarchy. You talk about voiding war, and seem to ignore the fact that there was no war to begin with. The avoidance has already occurred."

"Bringing Ouranos into the discussion is rather moot, don't you think, Cronus? It's not like I ever knew the man. As for Poseidon... he was looked in the eye. I will tell you this... your game is just that... a game. And if it offers an unfavorable outcome? Well, I didn't start a war last time..."

The ancient Titan fixed his gaze on Deimos, his lips suddenly drawn into a mirthless, albeit toothy, smile. "You are a creature of conflict, young Deimos, and so you rally to the defense of your queen. I can respect that, and understand it is in your blood to respond to peaceable speech with violence. Of course, I make no threat of violence myself, against you or your mother. I am merely pointing out that no one's hands are clean."

Cronus folded his arms and a fiery glow lit deep in his eyes. "That being said, you might want to remember that it took Zeus, Hades, Poseidon and a slew of others to ultimately defeat me in combat. It was a war that has never been equaled, by god or man, and it has lived on though legend in dozens of cultures, long before words were written. So I would think very carefully on how you act towards me in my own house. You are a god of war. I am the god of war." His mirthless smile became quite menacing for a flicker of a second, and in that heartbeat it seemed the gruesome legends of this Titan might be all too true.

The small burst of intensity faded as quickly as it came, though, and Cronus looked as harmless as he did the second before. "There is no more room for monarchies, at least not absolute ones, Aphrodite. You all walk with the humans so much, and yet you learn nothing. They have forgotten us, buried us in alien religions, merely placeholders and namesakes. And it was not us that left them... They left us. They abandoned us because we do not change, though we could if we desired it so."

Cronus seemed incredibly passionate about what he was saying. It breathed life into him, made him look younger and stronger. "We could be something again, like this Jesus Christ. We could be glorious..."

He seemed to hang there, almost floating, lost in a mild reverie. Then it abruptly rushed from him and the glow subsided. He sighed quietly and turned away from the pair, heading back up the steps to his home. "You both worry over nothing. I think the choices for leadership are quite clear, and certainly the will of the community of gods can and shall be heard by the triumvirate. Study your human history, my friends. You will see it is not at all unusual for a king or queen to be appointed by a council. It helps ensure that this new regent is the popular choice, thus cutting back on the potential for... mutiny."

Deimos's pale eyes flickered as he listened to Cronus speak, the older Deity's tone somewhere between affectionate and sinister. The daimon showed no outward response to his mum's touch at his back, but he did tighten in his casul slouch when Cronus turned his heated gaze on him.

And whether the God Titan meant to or not, his words clenched inside Deimos like a seduction. The daimon caught his breath, pupils blown, and he felt something foreign and thrilling in the pit of his stomach. A hesitation... trepidation, or something of his own power. Gods, it was delicious.

Terror huffed the faintest breath of laughter, his chin and throat deceptively delicate to the eyes as they rippled with the sound. He drank in that momentary flash of utter danger that reflected in Cronus's face, then took a half step back, as much acquiescence as he could offer. Then he spoke.

"I may not have been born when my father faced against you, Lord Cronus.." Deimos formed the words slowly, breathlessly, an expression like ecstasy on his features, "But believe me when I say I am nothing like you have ever seen before.."

Let this god talk of humans, he thought. Let Cronus claw and grasp for greatness, for recognition, amongst a race of lesser beings that had, by his own admission, abandoned him. Deimos had never, and would never, seek to be adored. The only true power was through fear. The only true power Was Fear. And that was something that had never changed, form the birth of this world.

"I know my human history, brother... I was there. And we've already spoken of the need for change... I find it a bit disheartening that you seem to think I'm all talk. But that is fine."

She waved her hand lightly in the air, brushing it all aside.

"As for mortals... be careful when you say we're no longer worships... you'll hear the name of Aphrodite and Venus murmured in many an invocation. Not all of us were abandoned."

She swallowed a sigh as Deimos and Cronus shared words, and just shook her head once they'd each laid veiled threats on the table.

"Have your tribunal. Have your vote. But do it quickly... you're not the only option one has for reversing spells. And be sure that the results best be satisfactory... While I may hold some fondness for you, It's not so much that I'll let you sidetrack my plans. And Cronus... I do mean quickly. There may be all the time in the world, but not all are patient. For now... I've apparently once more the task of explaining the actions of another to the masses... my gratitude."

She smirked lightly as she blew the Titan a kiss, her hand sliding from the middle of Dei's back to his shoulder, instantly transporting them both off of Othrys.
