The house felt way too quiet once Mel had left and with Anteros still sleeping off his early morning drinking binge, Psyche decided to take a walk on the beach. It was rare that she was anywhere besides Olympus, so she was going to enjoy this while she could.

A little girl with brown curly hair ran past her, shooting Psyche with a mischievous grin as she ran to collect sand for the sand castle she and her siblings were making. Psyche returned the smile, thinking about the child Eros and she always talked about having, but never got around to. Now that she'd cheated, she was unsure they would ever have offspring, let alone a marriage, once he found out.

She was so wrapped up in her thoughts, it took a minute or two for her to clue in that all the noise on the beach had stopped.

The ocean wasn't crashing. The birds weren't calling. And looking at the little girl she'd just smiled at, Psyche knew something was definitely off. She stood, bent at the waist, by the water's edge, her pail still gathering water that was no longer moving.

Psyche didn't even stop to think. She ran straight back to the house, calling for Anteros, the entire way.

Never once did she realize the nagging headache that had plagued her from day one of the switch was finally gone.

Anteros heard Psyche calling, but he wished she'd just shut the fuck up for a moment until he could...he could...

Nothing could be that important at this moment...

What could he do...

At the foot of his bed his dog Adonis was stretched out in a sleeping position; it was the way the dog usually slept, but Anteros had whistled for him, called for him to follow him into the kitchen and the dog hadn't made a move and when Anteros returned from the kitchen he noticed the animal still hadn't moved.

"C'mon boy...Get up...Breathe...Please..."

His face was tear staind and he was holding onto the body of his dog Adonis, a dog that wasn't moving or from what he could tell breathing and yet the animal still seemed warm, although it felt stiff.

Out of breathe, Psyche ran into the house and straight to Anteros' bedroom.

"ANTER..." Her words and feet came to a screeching halt when she saw his tears and Adonis. "Oh...no!"

She moved beside him and knelt by the bed. Her hand reached out to touch Adonis.

"I don't think he's gone...I think it's all the mortals. I think they are frozen or something." Her voice was a whisper.

Frozen?

"What do you mean?"

He hadn't even noticed it at first, being so devastated, but Psyche was different...he saw her "compassionate, loving, caring, (whatever you want to call it)" aura, which meant he was an erote again and she was this representation of the human spirit, soul incarnate...

"All of the mortals on the beach. They stopped...just stopped what they were doing. And the water? Stopped!"

Her brow wrinkled as she realized she felt different. Her attitude felt less...confrontational and not as angry. And yes, that headache was finally gone.

"Hey...do you feel different?"

After hearing about the mortals and the ocean, he laid Adonis delicately back down on the bed in almost the exact way he was when he found him, and then slipped his feet into a pair of slippers, "Yes, don't you?"

"Look," he pulled together the particles that composed his wings and the feathers were gray and silver dabbled with a teal sheen spread throughout the way they normally were.

He walked toward the patio and slid apart the doors and stepped outside. He didn't hear the sounds of any ocean and he saw a humming bird frozen in place at a bird feeder, a squirrel stuck in place against tree bark...

"This is very peculiar."

He returned back inside and took Psyche by the hand leading her into his living room where he turned on the television. Everything was frozen just like Adonis, the bird, and the squirrel.

"It's like someone put everything on pause..."

Flidais was in the town market, trying to pick out some fresh fruits and vegetables without killing them when 'it' happened. She knew it immediately as the pint of strawberries she held in her hand suddenly went from sickly looking to beautifully ripe.

"I'll take these" she looked up toward the stall's owner and her eyes widened. The man appeared to be frozen still. Looking around slowly she realized that the rest of the mortals in the market seemed to be in the same state, all quiet and unmoving like statues.

Dropping the berries, she hurried back to her home to gather Guinness hoping that he was not affected by whatever new sorcery was happening. As she stepped through the gate of her property she didn't spare a moment before calling out to her faithful companion.

"Guinness! Guinness! C'mon here baby. Where are you?"

She rounded a corner and covered her mouth to supress a scream as she took in the sight of Guinness frozen in mid pursuit of an equally frozen rabbit. Shaking she made her way over collapsing to the ground besides him, fingers running along his sides, still feeling the warmth of his body.

"ANTEROS!"

She knew he was attached to Adonis as much as she to Guinness and if one was affected the other surely would be too. With panic rising as each second ticked by, she wrapped her arms around Guinness' stiff form and transported them both to Santa Monica.

Appearing on her best friend and sometimes lover's doorstep she knocked urgently with her unbandaged hand while calling out to the God that she hoped was inside somewhere "Anteros..something is wrong. Something is wrong with Guiness."

After the television demonstration, Anteros attempted to pour himself a shot, out of habit, which was certainly a vain attempt since "time" was frozen.

He heard the knock on the door and looked at Psyche as if to ask if she was expecting anyone before going to answer it himself. From his side he viewed what was standing behind the door: Flidais holding her stiff pooch.

"Flidais doll, from the looks of Guiness it appears we've the same problem."

"Oh! We're back to normal. That's wonderful..." She paused then looked at Adonis, "Well...it would be if everything else was ok. It has to be connected, doesn't it?"

She glanced down at their connected hands once they were watching the tv and she tugged her hand free just as he headed over to the bar. Hearing the knock, she shook her head to him when he looked her way.

The minute she heard the name, Flidais, she remembered the fight at the meeting and closed her eyes in shame. She'd been so, so rude.

Flidais' nodded and to Anteros before stepping inside with poor pooch.

"I was just at the market and everything just froze."

She was a few steps inside the door when she realized that he wasn't alone.

"Oh..I didn't realize you had company."

Flidais recognized Psyche from the meeting and felt a pang of jealousy of the fact that she was here with Anteros. It was silly really since Flidais and Anteros had no sort of committed relationship outside of their friendship.

Anteros looked over Guiness while Flidais spoke.

"We should put him somewhere he'll be alright for when he unfreezes," or at least he hoped everything would unfreeze at some point...

"Psyche has..."

He quickly glanced his sister in laws way, "Is staying with me until..."

He feigned a smile he shared with each of them. A smile as if everything in the whole wide world was as it should be, "Well, I suppose if we're all back to normal she can return home whenever she likes."

"I wonder what the scope on this--peculiarity is."

She just been about to apologize for the last night she'd seen Flidais and offer a proper introduction, when Anteros felt the need to remind her of the reason she was staying there...and how that reason was now done.

Plastering a smile that equaled the facade of Ant's, Psyche stepped forward and looked at Flidais, smiling in greeting.

"Anteros is right, I've definitely overstayed my welcome. I should be getting home, and let the two of you alone. I'm sorry that between this meeting and the last, I haven't been able to formerly make your acquaintance. But it has been a pleasure, no matter what your first impression may have given you."

She looked at Anteros briefly before returning her gaze to Flidais.

"I really should get going. My husband will probably be home soon. I'm very sorry about your dog, I'm sure this will be solved quickly, and he'll be restored."

With that, she turned and left the room, moving to the room she barely stayed in to gather her belongings.

"Excuse me just one moment Flidais," and with that "moment" he decided to follow Psyche into the room lent to her for her stay.

He shut the door quietly behind him and leaned back against it, "You don't have to rush off Psyche. I didn't mean for what I said to sound as if I was in a hurry to see you go."

Psyche looked up from her bags of chocolate she'd piled on the bed when he shut the door and gave him a small smile.

"I know. But, it's ok. I should get home anyway. No reason to continue intruding on your privacy. I'm sure I wouldn't enjoy that." Her smile fell and she looked down at her hands. "I should clean up that mess before Eros comes home. I'm sorry about being so rude to you. I'm...not normally like that."

He approached her, and his eyes couldn't help but linger on piles of chocolates on the bed. He gave them a bit of an overwhelmed glance, "That's quite a lot of chocolate..."

Facing her he seemed to not give the chocolate another thought, "I just didn't want you to feel like I was running you off, because I wasn't and..."

And... He felt very redundant for having rephrased himself...

"Very good then. That you understand I wasn't."

"That's quite alright," he said in acceptance of her apology.

"I'm sure you aren't normally...rude, either."

"Well, I didn't know how long I was staying for. Need a good supply."

She looked up at him as he accepted her apology...but offered none of his own. Whatever.

"I'm not. So, we can forget any of this ever happened?" The rudeness, the sniping, the sex...all of it. She just wanted it out of her mind. "Just get back to not speaking to each other, like it was before?"

Flidais nodded and watched as Anteros made a graceful exit from the room before turning toward Guinness.

"Well that certainly looks interesting."

Moving her frozen canine companion over she carefully laid him down on his side, ignoring how strange the position looked since he had been in mid-run when he had been frozen. Then she conjured up his favorite blanket and tucked it around him, hoping that when he came to he'd stay down all snuggled up, thus allowing her the time to check over him.

When that was completed, she moved through Anteros house toward the kitchen. Once there she set about making some grilled cheese, not wanting to start a huge production in Ate's kitchen.

Her eyes narrowed at his "and you certainly don't."

"I'm sorry...did you want to keep in contact? I just figured you would be as eager to forget this whole mess as I am."

Did he want them to be friends?

He felt guilty yes.

He felt horrible for shagging his brother's wife, for enjoying it immensely and for cumming inside her.

He felt horrible for the way he treated her before that, although she didn't make it any easier for him to be Scorn. He had also treated Harmonia more poorly than he would have liked. Both were things he felt he needed to make up for.

But there was something else...

And he could have gloated about it, but he'd feel guilty about doing that too; Psyche had wanted to fuck him.

And he didn't think he'd be able to just forget it and go on, not being who she was...not doing what he did...not when he knew that sooner or later it would come out.

"No, You're right---It makes no sense for us to be around each other. We weren't best mates before the switch, after---It might not be appropriate," No it certainly wouldn't be appropriate.

"I just think I want to make what happened up to you... and him."

She shook her head at his words.

"No, you don't. It was more my fault than yours. It was my choice and one I have to live with."

The guilt of that would likely kill her, but she was resolved that Eros would never know. Never.

"Thank you for allowing me to stay here, I know you didn't have to, and I know I didn't make it a pleasant experience."

She gave him a small smile, and moved to give him a hug to emphasize her words. She would try to be nice to him, although it still seemed like he had the ability to mess with her annoyance.

She moved to hug him and of course he was receptive to the gesture, but it was difficult being physically close to her again without thinking things he should not think. It was difficult taking in her fragrant smell....

He held on a little longer than he should have...

Oh...the minute she touched him, she knew she'd made a mistake.

He was quite a bit taller than her, so her head ended up nestled under his jawline and when she lifted her face into the hug, all she could smell was his bittersweet chocolate smell. That, combined with his warmth and hardness, caused her eyes closed in pleasure. She didn't even notice him holding on too long, because she was holding on just as long.

Once she realized what she was doing? She let him go quickly and stepped back from him.

Her voice was a low whisper. "I think staying away from each other is a very good idea."

He walked around her, surveying the curve of her body with his eyes before he paused a moment in front of her and looked into her eyes, smiling. He didn't say anything before he moved back toward the door, taking pause at the door a moment and then leaning back up against it once more, "If you do, if he does..."

"find out?"

"I'd appreciate a heads up..."

Because he knew his brother well. And he knew others well. If he didn't feel the heartbreak first. It was possible that Eros would conceal it, it was within his abilities.

Her eyes followed him as he walked around her.

"What are you doing?" His smile was predatory and she felt naked under his gaze; hunted.

She crossed her arms over her breasts in an effort to feel a little protected and frowned at him.

"Don't worry, Anteros. I have no intention of telling my husband what happened between us. The only way he is going to find out is if you tell him." Or Mel, but to be perfectly honest, she trusted Mel way more than she trusted Ant.

Anteros examined Psyche with incredulous awe. For Psyche to have just moments before apologized for what she herself had deemed as being rude? Then for her to try to lead him to believe she wasn't normally shrewish or rude? It was all very facetious in the face of what she just said: I'm sure she's more than I am anyway?

He almost laughed out. Almost.

Did she imply that Flidais was more of a "guest" than she was? Did she imply that Flidais was better than her or of more significance than her? Whatever the implication? It was amusing. Needlessly amusing.

"Well, I don't know how much "more" she is than you, but I'm sure she's wondering what is holding us up."

"More enjoyable company at the moment, Anteros. I'm sorry, I should have been more clear with my words. I think I just need to get some rest." Away from you.

She gathered her bags and turned to move past him through the door. "I'm sure you can find some reason for my leaving. Given the fight she witnessed and your feelings towards me, crazy sister-in-law should work just fine." She had no faith he wouldn't portray her that way anyway, so she might as well expect it.

He stepped out of the way for her to go through and followed her out, "I hope you do get some rest... Perhaps you'll not be as..."

Grumpy...

"scatterbrained."

He grabbed her arm in the hallway, "There doesn't have to be a reason."

Anteros leaned in and kissed the corner of her mouth quickly and released her. He stepped past her with his back turned toward her, "If you see my mum, tell her she did a bang up job---Now, all she has to do is fix the universal remote---It's stuck on pause."

She simply stood there after he turned his back to her. Why...why would he do that? Weren't they supposed to be not touching?

"Don't..." She paused and took a deep breath. "...If I see her, I will tell her you said so. I really have to go now."

She moved past him and out of the house, luckily with enough room that she didn't have to touch him. Once on the porch, she closed her eyes and thought...home.

Amused, he wondered why she stepped outside to teleport? The neighbors already thought abnormal things went on at his house, add vanishing people to the list.

He joined Flidais, who turned up being in the kitchen.

"My sister in law, I don't know what my brother really sees in her," beyond the obvious.
