His Apt, Afternoon, Adam
On Friday Adam had been saddled with a stack of paperwork and had been ordered to have it done by Monday. He'd considered, with great temptation, putting them off until Sunday, but Sunday was his lazy day. He'd be damned if work would take his Sunday away.
Besides, he needed something to keep his mind occupied. Today it had the most regrettable habit of straying to wonder what was taking place down at the square between Icene and the mysterious "Greg."
He wasn't jealous, oh no, of course not, it was merely distracting and if he couldn't enjoy some mind numbing television with the whole of his attention then he figured he might as well be working.
He ducked into his closet, folder open in one hand, reaching up onto a shelf with the other. He'd done something dangerously similiar to this before. If only he could find it....
Maybe one day he'd invest in a file cabinet-
Ah! There! His hand brushed against something hard and square shaped and he immediately tugged it closer. The size and weight were off though, and it surprised him, making him fumble the box. It hovered for a moment, then toppled over the edge, hitting him square on the head before falling the rest of the way to the floor.
Swearing didn't stop the hurt, but it did keep him from kicking the offending box across the room. He tucked his folder under his arm and rubbed ruefully at the top of his skull as he crouched to take a closer look.
Oh. Yes. He'd forgotten all about that.
The gift Icene had given him what felt like ages ago now. He had never gotten around to opening it.
I wonder what she's doing right-
No. He cut that off. He'd come in here to avoid thinking about her and what she was or wasn't doing with "Greg." He scooped up the box, hoping whatever it was inside hadn't broken when it fell, leaned out through the doorway, and tossed it gently onto his bd.
He'd get to it later.
