The days seemed to be getting so much longer, she felt like every student within the walls, at least all the ones that were currently watching the clock. Sharp blue eyes seemed glued to the clock placed to the left of her office door, a speaker connected to the clock would soon be alive with the screaming ring of the bell to let everyone know school was finally over for the day. Fingers idly slid over a pencil before the eraser is held limply between her fingers so that when she moves it, it looks seamless, as if the pencil were made of water. Optical illusion, but still fun to watch when you had nothing better to do, problem was, Nyx had a load of things she should be doing, especially if she wanted to keep her job. Really she should have sent one of the office helpers to go fetch a few students she should have seen today, but the day was almost over, so maybe it didn't matter as much as she'd thought it did earlier in the week, before everything started happening. Nyx moved in her swivel chair, pencil no longer 'floating' in the air, but softly placed back on her desk as she moved to look out the window. She had a lovely view of a tree. It was probably against some ordinance or other, the roots had be doing damage to the schools brick walls, but she didn't care. It was one of the only trees not surrounded by a square of cement, probably there before the building had been set up. A wonder really, that it hadn't been cut down yet, without realizing what she was doing, her fingers had started to slowly caress over the face of her desk, nails sliding over the plastic top of the desk the way a cats claws run over a scratching post. She heard a tiny movement of mechanisms before the bell finally rang, mentally preparing herself in those short seconds to not jump or freak out at the sudden loud noise. Although that sort of freaked her out too, how could she possibly have heard that? Too many strange things were going on, and in no way did she like it. Part of her was silently urging her to go back to see a therapist herself, but what was the point of trying to help others if you couldn't even help yourself? After the bell died Nyx grabbed the black leather pouch that her red blackberry slipped into, slipped it into the pack pocket of her tan slacks, made sure her wallet was in her left pocket, and headed for the door while pulling down the fabric of her button up white, waist tight, linen shirt in back. Just as she opened her door and walked into the main office she was grabbed by the arm by the secretary, then a pile of papers were handed to her, "Where do you think you're going Ms. Carter?" The elder asked while pushing her glasses back into place, wrinkled hands moved their way to the bun that was tightly spun at the back of her head to make sure it was in place. "There's a meeting for the faculty in thirty minutes. Wouldn't want to miss that." She stated in her thickly sarcastic voice. Nyx offered the kindest smile she could pull, even if it felt taught around the corners of her mouth, "Well, I'll be back in thirty minutes then. I just need to stretch my legs." She sounded reasanable, points for her. Without glancing at the papers she'd been handed, she turned back around and placed the notes onto her desk for tomorrow before once more leaving her office and closing the door behind you. "Don't forget now!" Came the secrataries nearly yelled plea for order, Nyx just waved as she left, no real intention of showing back up for a faculty meeting that would more than likely have nothing to do with her. This is a public school after all, the hierarchy tended to be: Sports/clubs, Education, and then Emotional care. If anything all that would be discussed today were the new uniforms for gym. Once through the double doors of the school, fresh air swept long strands of snow from Nyx's face and coaxed a tender smile, warmth from the sun made her feel happy, finally. If anyone called to her, she wouldn't have heard it, this hour was freedom to her just as it was to every kid that had been locked within those walls all day. Her steps were long, with purpose, as she made her way to her favorite place. She didn't care that she would be taking a nearly twenty minute walk, if not longer, she loved being outside. Every single thing seemed to take her mind away from the horrible thoughts that seemed to constantly be there as of late. So many different people gliding by on skates, boards, or just wearing such bright colors that Nyx often caught herself staring. God forbid a butterfly should happen by, she'd probably stop right in the middle of walking traffic and just stare, if not try to capture it. The walk was filled with fun thoughts, soon her mind turning back to work and what really needed to be done tomorrow, of course she'd have to apologies for not returning, if they even noticed her absence. After many thought processes, she was there, Cafe Lunaire. The shop had become a haven for the woman, cool on the days that were too hot, and she really didn't feel like swimming. She walked to the counter where she was greeted with a smile from one of the main girls, "Same as usual please," Nyx was semi surprised to hear the cheer in her own voice. A good place can do that to you, flip your entire mood. Within minutes she was handed a medium sized rich frosty mint espresso, with just a bit of whipped cream on the top to make it wroth the taste of actual coffee. She paid and looked around for a spot to sit, luckily a crowd hadn't formed just yet, so she had her pick of places. Close to the window, away from the front door and any books. Once she was settled though, that's when the dark thoughts came back. Thoughts of what she could only describe as dreams, and crazy thoughts that didn't make sense. Even if she knew exactly what it all meant, it had to be wrong, she had to be wrong. Past lives were not real, let alone being reborn just to help other people remember who they were to save the world. It sounded like some bad comic plot. |
