Backdated: Bruce Wayne's Charity Gala
WHO: Bruce Wayne, Any of the guests of honor who accepted the invitation (Superman, Wonder Woman, Black Adam, Isis) Anyone in the Press, Anyone who could afford a ticket, anyone who knows some one who could afford a ticket (Just about everyone should have at least one character who can attend)
WHAT: The Big Charity Gala to raise money for the Citizens of Qurac
WHEN: Evening of May 31st
WHERE: A big fancy building in Metropolis

It was the usual fair for a charity event. Lights, where hung up, but not as ostentatious as if they had been putting up decorations for a party to celebrate Bruce Wayne himself. Given how the last one of those had gone, it was probably for the best. There were gossip columnists, and entertainment reports standing outside talking about what people were wearing, numerous photographers taking pictures, which Bruce had to stop every few steps to pose for, with and without a throng of people to join him in the photo op.

Inside, were pictures of Qurac before its destruction, as well as details on its reconstruction, (of particular note highlighting Lex Luthors efforts to help the country) images of families, and information about how people can donate money, time or resources to help. Of course there was also the usual things one would find at fancy parties, waiters carrying food, and people in nice clothes engaged in shallow small talk.

And through it all Bruce Wayne moved, with a smile and a kind word for all of his guests (As well as two more kind words for himself)

Same deal as the birthday party thread, start a sub thread for individual conversations, if anyone wants to talk to Bruce post a sub thread and he shall appear.

Dick Grayson's Arrival -- OT Damian Wayne & Barbara Gordon
[info]flyingsolo
2010-11-05 08:59 pm UTC (link)
If there was one thing that life with Bruce Wayne taught Dick it was that everything is about appearance. Everything. It didn't matter if you hated the activity in question, it all sold the part of bonehead billionaire. Something about acting and performing a role spoke to the entertainer in Dick and he embraced it whole heartily. So when the ostentatious stretch Hummer pulled up outside the gala, it was all according to plan.

The driver slipped from the front of the Hummer and walked the mile and a half to the back of the vehicle. The driver took the handle and opened the door for Dick and his party. The famous acrobat exited the vehicle and flashed the gathered crowd a grin that could only be described as a dazzling. He had to play it up a bit but finally he slapped the driver on the shoulder in a friendly gesture before stepping away from the curb. Dick adjusted his suit jacket before he made his way toward the front door. Grayson stopped only once for a picture with Bruce after a rather attractive reported practically screamed for the photo op. With that done, Dick pressed onward to the party itself.

Once inside the gala, Dick let the act slip down to his comfort level. He caught sight of a familiar butler and snagged a flute of "champagne" from Alfred. "Thanks for the champagne, Alfred." He winked at the older man and sipped his ginger ale. Dick took root towards the center of a crowd and mingled accordingly.

Barbara loved her boyfriend. She really did! But she was glad that she was able to make a normal unobtrusive entrance to the gala. Once upon a time, she had liked being on his arm at these functions, but being the crippled girlfriend of the handsome heir to a massive fortune didn't hold the same appeal that it had had when she was able bodied. Plus, she just did more now, and while she appreciated the atmosphere that Bruce was creating tonight with the fundraiser, she couldn't shake of the nagging feeling that she was missing out on important work as she socialized.

Still, her presence had been requested, and it couldn't hurt her mental state to get out more. So she'd made the effort to look nice in her black dress. She spotted Dick from across the room and couldn't help but smile as she made her way towards him. He really did look good in a nice suit.

Dick Grayson's Arrival -- OT Damian Wayne & Barbara Gordon

Damian was not awed by the occasion.

He arrived with Grayson, just as well dressed but without any of Grayson's good cheer. He was of half a mind that he did not want to be here, but the other half said that this was his rightful place. Unable to find a balance between the two ideas, he vacillated between smug and sneering. In short, he was his usual charming self.

After sailing into the party after Grayson, Damian took a long assessing look around the room. He cataloged every face, and assessed the varying levels of wealth present. In his perusal, he saw Grayson's girlfriend, Gordon. His upper lip curled for a moment in distaste, before he turned and purposefully walked in the other direction. He was not running away, there was simply something that was far more interesting in this direction. Or there would be, once he got there.

To all those in attendance (with the possible exception of anyone who spent their nights in a costume) Dick Grayson appeared to be enjoying the party whole heartily. The former acrobat even appeared enthralled by the typical schmoozing that went hand in hand with these events. Only a select few would realize that his casual glances here and there were habits ingrained in him by Batman; hi mentor had always told him to know his surroundings, locate the exits and take notice of your enemies. As this was a social function, there weren't many blood thirsty assassins in attendance. Those who did toe that line between good and evil were scum like Luthor. Dick couldn't help spare the bald man an extra long glance. It appeared his stare didn't go unnoticed for the CEO across from him piped up with an interesting factoid about his dealings with Luthor's company. Grayson smiled politely and asked the typical open ended questions he always kept his in repertoire.

The CEO was mid sentence when Dick grinned and excused himself. He turned around just as Barbara Gordon arrived. The grin that broke through his act was genuine and he moved down to give her a hello-gorgeous-kiss. "Hello Babs. You look fantastic."

Damian's sour look towards Babs didn't go unnoticed. "Well hello to you too, junior," she muttered. Her own bad mood didn't last long as when Dick came over to her. "Not so bad yourself." She grinned, running her fingers under the lapel of his tuxedo jacket. "Don't let me keep you from schmoozing. By all means..." She gestured back to the fray.

And then Bruce Wayne appeared, rather differently then the two were used to, he approached in the loudest. most attention getting way possible. Spreading his arms wide and affixing his most charming smile..

"There is the happy couple! I don't think we've had a chance to really sit and talk since the whole birthday debacle." He slapped a hand on Dick's shoulder and laughed slightly.

"Son, I don't think you could have found a more wonderful woman to accompany you. And Barbra! It is a well known requirement that you must attend all my parties with a handsome man on your arm. I'm glad Dick can be that man." He nodded to the two of them flashing a huge grin.

"Frees me up to go score a dance with Wonder Woman."

It was amazing how easily Bruce could control a room. No matter what he was doing, he could have every eye on him as both Bruce Wayne and The Batman. It didn't matter what you were doing or saying, your eyes would always seem drawn back to that billionaire playboy. With a little smirk Dick endured the slap to the shoulder. He knew Bruce could hit a lot harder than that. It seemed to be every father figure's prerogative to embarrass their sons. Dick was just lucky Jim Gordon wasn't there to give him a talking to as well.

When Bruce congratulated them, Dick shot his mentor a smile. "You and me both, Old Man!" Dick replied and his smile grew into grin to show Bruce he was only kidding. He slapped a hand on the older man's shoulder and looked to Barbara. "What do you think Babs? You think Bruce has a shot with a Princess?"

"Hmm..." Barbara murmured, crossing her arms. She eyed Bruce for a moment in deep contemplation. "I would say no, considering she's Wonder Woman, but then I've made the mistake of underestimating him before. I guess I'll just wish you good luck, Bruce."

She laughed, reaching out to take Dick's hand. She gave this a squeeze, smiling up at him. They had just gotten back together a week prior, and it was obvious how strong her feelings were running.

Bruce's mouth dropped open in faux-shock. He placed a hand over his chest and looked deeply wounded.

"I am hurt! Barbra, after everything I've done that you would doubt me!" He adjusted his grip on the Dick's shoulder. His grin ever present.

"Why, I think I could be so charming that Dick here could soon be calling her "Princess Mom." Though, not that I have any intention of getting tied down in such a manner." Bruce rolled his shoulders.

"Tied down in another way..." He raised an eyebrow and dropped his hand from Dick's shoulder.

"I suppose I'll have to go prove you wrong eh?"

It was not unusual for members of the hero community to attend the charity events pertaining to such a harrowed situation. While they often relied on brute strength and skill to offer aid, they could always offer their aid through presence alone.

Diana may not have been dressed in her usual star-spangled outfit, but the Amazon certainly stood out. She wore a striking red chiton, with gold on her wrists, around her waist, and wrapped in her long, dark hair. She stood amidst the crowds, towering over the average in attendance. Her eyes were constantly scanning the area, searching for those she knew and preparing herself for an attack that seemed inevitable.

No attack came. Instead what Diana was presented with was a glass of champagne from behind. Tommy Elliot slid his way closer to the statuesque woman and smiled. Wonder Woman struck a very intimidating silhouette that would have warded off most other men, but Tommy was undeterred. She was a member of the Justice League of America, which meant she had some relationship to Batman, which meant she was of interest to him.

"Champagne? You looked a little bored standing there by yourself." He gave her a friendly smile. "I'm Thomas Elliot. Nice to meet you."

Diana's turned just enough to see the drink followed by the arm it was attached to. She declined with a graceful shake of the head. "Diana of Themyscira," she returned the greeting politely. "Is there something that I can help you with?"

Propriety was not lost on Diana, but she had never been one for idle conversation. It was assumed that all who approached her had done so with a purpose.

"Oh yes Princess! I would love to hear these stories as well." Bruce approached, drink in hand. He took a sip and then looked between the two of them with a smile.

"I would absolutely love to hear about some exciting adventures, for example, is it true that you single handedly destroyed an entire island of evil robots?" Bruce turned to give Tommy a friendly glance, then looked back to the Princess.

"Plus there's some juicy gossip going around that you may be involved with Superman, I assume it's simply professional yes?" Typical Bruce Wayne, always fishing to find out if a woman is single.

Wonder Woman would have been happy entertaining one man with a warrior's, but Bruce's interruption left her rethinking which story to tell. One that involved she and her Amazon sisters removing man's stench from many a world.

Diana gave a nod of her head in acknowledgment to Bruce Wayne. His reputation was not lost on her and a stern glance was the most he would be getting this evening. "I have fought many robots on many islands. None were inherently good or evil."

She stood between the two, offering equal attention to both until Bruce's statement. A delicate brow curved and she turned to address him fully. "I will not entertain you with a comment based on rumor. Is there something else you would like to know?" The question was posed to both.

Tommy whistled a bit. Bruce had really gotten himself into it this time. He had to wonder how much of his behavior was just for show. "I'm sorry, you'll have to forgive Bruce for his questions. You see, he's fully entrenched in the world of gossip. But it's the money and the face. He can't help it. Isn't that right, Brucey?"

He laughed jokingly, patting his friends arm with friendly familiarity. He turned his eyes back to Wonder Woman, meeting her gaze. He had gotten good over the years at playing respect to women. His mother had taught him how to fake it. "It's nice to see you and your teammates taking such an interest in charity, considering all you already do. I actually got Zatanna to come to my hospital and do some magic for the pediatrics ward. It was a great thing."

Bruce hung his head, and laughed slightly at Tommy's reassurance. He looked toward Wonder Woman, and tried changing his position into an apologetic bow. The reason behind this particular interaction was twofold. First, Superman and Wonder Woman being some of the only people he'd worked with closely that didn't know of his secret identity, this would be a good test of his acting ability. Second, it was a good chance to see how his teammates acted when they didn't realize they were under the watchful eyes of Batman.

"My sincerest apologies Princess, I didn't mean to offend, I also didn't mean to suggest anything either. I just thought it would be terribly unjust for me to make assumptions about you based solely on things I had heard, without actually talking to you first." He offered a polite smile, and let out a breath.

"I agree with Doctor Elliot though. In fact the reason I came over was to thank you for accepting the invitation." Bruce took a sip from his glass and glanced between the two of them.

"Though, if you are willing to grace us with some stories, I for one would actually enjoy hearing a bit about some your political interactions. The media is too eager to cover crazy super villain battles, it ignores that some of the most significant achievements are accomplished with words, and not violence."

Diana had barely moved since the two began to talk. Though she offered her full attention, she stood sturdy and unflinching between them. Despite the gala, it was evident that she was braced for trouble.

"Why would we not come? We are warriors, yes, but how would we know what to fight for if we did not speak with those we protect? I am a champion for Earth, not a god of it."

"As for my political experiences, I have traveled the world many times over for my homeland. As an ambassador, I have met leaders both strong and weak, cruel and kind. Not all are good, not all are evil, but all have been willing to speak. Most without physical threat," she added with just a touch of a smile to break her stoic appearance. Diana could joke, it was just rare when she exercised her humor.

"The two of you must understand, yes? Ambassadors and warriors are not the only ones who speak for their people. You are both leaders of men."

"Personally, I consider myself a servant of men...and women," Tommy added with a little grin. "You'd be surprised how isolating the life of a surgeon can be. But I do understand the idea of being an advocate. I've been at the forefront of some very experimental treatments. It's amazing how resistant the hierarchy can be to progress and healing."

He gave a shrug, turning his eyes to Bruce. "Bruce has more attachments then me, though." His smile took on a slightly sharp quality. "He's something of a symbol in Gotham." His head whipped sharply back to Diana, as though he had just made a connection. "Just like your Bat-friend."

Bruce rolled his eyes.

"Tommy didn't she just say she wasn't going entertain us with comments based on rumors? Everybody knows "the Batman" is something the police made up." They didn't of course, by this point there were numerous witnesses to Batman, even blurry pictures had surfaced.

"But in regards to your comment Princess, I understand what yo mean. Of course, being a lover, and not a fighter I always try to encourage people to resolve situations without resorting to violence." Bruce tilted his head down slightly.

"The last thing I want, is to see more people die." He took a sip from his glass and lifted his gaze shrugging his shoulders.

"Of course that just means my fights are in a more metaphorical sense. I use words instead of weapons, but if I have my Greek Pantheon right... it was Artemis...no, Athena, she was the goddess of, amongst other things, strategy. And we all know she was a lot cooler then the god of war."

Diana refrained from commenting on Batman's existence. If Mr. Wayne refused to acknowledge the existence of someone who was very real, so be it. Of course, his mention of the gods, however limited his knowledge, in the same conversation was enough to uncover a smile.

"Each of the gods are necessary. However much you disagree with them, they command respect." Though her island was not devoted to the men, there was an unspoken courtesy to the male gods. Tensions were high between them and though Diana would not allow men such as Ares to control Themyscira, she dared not belittle their strength. It would forever be an ongoing battle. "Just as they serve a purpose, so do we. Be it through words or battle is up to one's own choices."

Parties like this were in many ways how people of power networked. Lex was used to them and while he would have rather been in his lab working on his latest project he understood the need. Qurac was a mess, LexCorp was helping, but in a much more quiet way. The government offered to host several test programs at an incredibly reduced price, and they had the bonus of saying that this help was provided by the government, not the foreign devils. Lex didn't care, he got his test results and since they were purchased, the UN couldn't throw a fit. Everyone won.

Walking into the party he looked about for a bit before getting a glass of water from a tray and circulating. There were metahumans here. Wonderful, that meant he would probably be here too. Well, it would be an interesting evening.

After stalking off from the two lovebird birdbrains, Damian found himself without much to do. He managed a few short exchanges without wanting to slice and dice the simpering syncopates, but soon grew irritated enough to want to be alone.

He did not make it far before almost running into Lex Luthor. It would be hard to mistake that cueball head for anyone else, even from behind. While Damian might not know everyone here, despite his assertions to the contrary, even he had heard of Luthor while he lived with his mother. It was...intriguing to say the least.

"What is a Luthor doing here?" He asked, making his rude comment count as a greeting.

"Lex, thank you for coming. Just wouldn't be a party in Metropolis if you weren't here." Bruce put a steadying hand on Damian's back and smiled at the boy.

Since their little dinner interview, Lois was not really looking forward to attending the gala. Events of this sort were never really her favorite anyway, and she found herself wasting a lot of money on dresses that were essentially one-time-use. Not to mention that Bruce Wayne's attempts at seducing her were practically palpable, and she didn't think that she could endure them politely another full night. However, she had dressed fairly modestly for the event, and hoped that the excess of leggy, anorexic blonds would distract the billionaire. After all, if he paid attention to her, that would show that he had a consistent interest, and he couldn't have that. It would tarnish his flawless reputation of being completely disconnected from human attachment.

Of course, her first interest were the pictures on display. Though Lois had seen the devastation first hand, she was curious to examine what was being shown. Predictably, all of the pictures were pre-nuclear attack. Nothing too graphic or scary that could frighten the guests. And LexCorp was getting special attention. How quaint. Lois studied the images and blurbs of information carefully, feeling that there had to be some kind of ulterior motive. Lex Luthor wouldn't do anything unless he had some potential to benefit.

It was not that Kate disliked partying. She did try to live up her reputation as a party girl. She just disliked fancy parties, feeling more at ease with a cold beer and more comfortable shoes. But Catherine had found herself unable to attend and had claimed the reputation of the family was at stake. And thus Kate had become her father's companion for the night. At least he had said she looked lovely in her suit.

After chatting up with the Colonel and some of his friends she had wandered off, glancing at the pictures with interest. She stood by another woman, examining the picture in front of them. Kate couldn't help a little smile at seeing Luthor's name. How charitable of him.

"Nice," she said to no one in particular.

As always, Lois was conscious of her surroundings and the people milling about. Memorizing the names and faces of the wealthiest people on the continent was never a favorite pass-time, so there were some people who she knew she should recognize, but could not properly place. The girl standing to her left, likewise admiring the pictures, was one of them.

But she was wearing a suit, and that amused her.

"Nice?" she inquired curiously, her gaze drifting back to the picture that the woman was currently examining. It seemed slightly out of context, looking at pictures of a city that was now entirely leveled.

This was not her native environment, not the world she had been born into, not by a long shot, but Selina Kyle blended into it seamlessly. Long practice ensured it. And even if some of these parties were dreadfully boring, being interested wasn't why most of these people were here. Networking, hobknobbing, gossiping, there were a thousand different variations on why people were nearly required to come to events like this, whether or not they cared about the pale excuse for a party that started the whole mess. (A bombed country, someone's birthday, the wedding anniversary of a couple that probably wasn't even speaking anymore.)

The new Selina Kyle came for those reasons, at least ostensibly. But she also came for the food (usually stupendous), the drinks (usually better) and the sheer, satisfying fun of putting one over on the rich and powerful.

So she'd come out to Metropolis, put on a slinky dress and some diamonds (not stolen, but certainly bought with ill-gotten gains), and joined the wealthy and concerned at the Wayne benefit gala. She was drifting through the crowd, meeting and greeting, playing the part with dedication. Part of the impetus to come might have been to case the wealthy people of Metropolis, for a change; another part was probably to snoop on Bruce Wayne, and figure out what he was up to. And the deception was fun; another part of the fun was the collection of oyster forks she was amassing in convenient places in her dress and purse. If she couldn't clean the caterer out of every oyster fork in their inventory by the end of the evening, well, she was no longer a master thief.

She was here because her mother brought her. Some sort of plot to show how being normal was more interesting than following in her father's foot steps. There was a dress she wasn't comfortable in and the shoes... Ugh, some horrible torture, she could barely zip around in them.

After noticing one Mr. Sandiego, Iris decided to keep a low profile, till she saw some lady playing the Denny's game. Not knowing how many points they were worth she decided to investigate.

Appearing behind Miss Kyle out of almost thin air she blinked. "So uh, if knives are 2 points and forks are 3. Are those weird forks that I dunno what are for worth only 2 cause they're smaller? You know, the ones that are half fork and half spoon should be worth like 5."

It was easy to get into a charity ball held by multimillionaire Bruce Wayne. There were three common ways: be a patron, a reporter or have connections with the Wayne family through business or personal relations. Lacking the connections and patience to play reporter, Jason decided to go with the patron option. Using the money he received from the drug lords, he set down an anonymous, but generous donation. Through this, he was able to attend.

He didn't take any precautions concerning his appearance. It didn't matter to him. Most that might connect him to Jason wouldn't believe he was alive. For those few that would, they would question Bruce about the second Wayne son "faking his death" thus opening up the wound he hoped to open in the future.

Keeping away from the Bat family, Jason prowled along the sides of the crowd. He would chat when approached, but he mainly watched the crowd, nursing the glass of champagne in his hand.

Jason Todd + Barbara Gordon

As the night had gone on, Barbara had been able to loosen up a bit. She was talking politics with a few of Gotham's elite who had made generous donations to her father's legitimate crusade on crime. Some topics made it easier to muster up the old Barbara Gordon, and she was always happy to speak highly of her father.

Thinking she had seen Dinah, she excused herself, wheeling carefully though the crowds of increasingly tipsy party-goers. She was disappointed to realize the woman she had seen wasn't the blond she was looking for, and she turned around to look at Dick. That was when she caught a flash of a face so impossibly familiar, she thought she was imagining it. Her breath caught in her throat. A small group of patrons passed in front of her field of vision, and she expected that face to be gone when they finished their migration. However, he remained there.

She frowned, wondering what kind of trick this could be. It wasn't a perfect match. He looked older, like the young man he had never had a chance to be. Clayface? Something more sinister. Her heart was thudding in her chest as she wheeled her way over to find out.

Jason noticed Barbara out of the corner of his eye, catching her frown as she looked in his direction. Her facial expression made it clear that she saw some similarity between himself and the young Robin she used to work with. He kept himself calm, appearing as if he wasn't even aware of the woman coming towards him. He had hoped to avoid direct contact with any of the Bat family, but he didn't feel the need to be too terribly concerned. It wasn't as if he hadn't created a plan in case such a thing occurred.

Barbara came to a stop in front of the young man, forcing a smile onto her face. Even if it was a Clayface, she couldn't just start a fight in the middle of Bruce's party. The crowd was too high profile and, in some cases, too volatile. "Not enjoying the party?" she asked nicely, gesturing to the fact that he was on the fringes of everything.

"What isn't there to enjoy?" Jason replied, giving only the briefest glance to Barbara before looking back into the crowd. Despite appearing to ignore her, he grinned and continued in a light-hearted manner. "Food, alcohol, beautiful women." With this he finally looked at her, lifting his glass slightly as if to toast her. He was trying his best to channel Bruce's alter ego. He was going to be carefree, suave and just a little bit stupid.

"What brings you here to the fringes Miss..." He motioned with his hand as he pretended to search for a name in his mind. "Gordon, was it? I would assume you would be enjoying the company of the other party-goers."

"Well, you know how it is. It's always the same crowd at this parties," Barbara shrugged, channeling a bit of the same nonchalance this guy was giving her. "Except you. Your face is so familiar, but I don't think we've been properly introduced yet. You seem to already know my name, so it's only polite that I learn yours."

She could feel herself tensing up. Something about this situation was wrong, giving her the creepy crawlies all over. Something about his voice...

A memory washed over her, barely more than a week old. Someone on the end of the comm line with this man's voice. This man with Jason's face. Her calm demeanor slipped as she thought back to that conversation. "...why are you here?" Why are you doing this to me? It just had to be someone doing a deep impersonation of Jason, and when she found out who was doing that and why, she was going to kick his ass.

"Klein. Michael Klein," Jason answered, keeping the smile he had plastered onto his face. He noticed Barbara beginning to tense up, but didn't let on that he was aware of it. It seemed she was starting to recognize his voice from a week ago. He knew such a thing would happen, he just needed to remain stupid.

His smiling face turned into one of concern. "Why am I here? For the party, of course." He bent down slightly, lowering his voice so only she could hear. "Are you alright, Miss Gordon? You look like you've seen a ghost." There was no hint of taunting in his voice, just concern. The best way to taunt was to do so without making it seem like you were.

Barbara's eyes narrowed a bit, but she forced a smile onto her face. "I meant, here here. Didn't you get the memo that this is the kind of event where you come to rub elbows with the elite and famous?" She leaned back in her chair a bit, scanning the crowd. "I mean, look. Bruce Wayne is right there. Bruce Wayne. Now, I'd be more impressed if I wasn't dating his son, but I can count at least five people in the crowd tripping over themselves to get at him. I'm just surprised you aren't doing the same. And a bit curious."

Despite her good recovery, her mind was spinning. Why look like Jason? Why now? Why call her and dig up old memories? Was this even the same man? If so, how could he know she was Oracle? How could he know to look like Jason Todd. Because she knew it couldn't be Jason Todd. She refused to believe it. She had been at Jason's funeral. She had watched him be put into the ground.

Jason straightened and pursed his lips in thought, turning to stare out at the crowd around them. His mind was busy thinking of the right words to say. To drop little hints or not? After a moment, he just shrugged and downed the rest of his drink. "He doesn't interest me," Jason finally said flatly. "Not when he's playing this role."

"I should probably get going. I can't take up all your time. Your boyfriend might start to worry." There was no sign of the flirty man from before, just the same flatness he showed when talking about Bruce. He didn't say or do much else before walking away, only to stop not even a couple feet from her.

He turned to look at Barbara, a mixture of seriousness, determination and a hint of sadness on his face. "I'm going to get him. The one that hurt us." Perhaps it was foolhardy to say 'us' like he did, but he knew it wouldn't convince her that he was the real deal. Just make her even more certain that he was a man trying to get at her emotions by impersonating a dead kid. "I'll do what he won't." With that, he turned without another word and disappeared into the crowd.

Superman's Arrival + Open

As Superman, it was all but impossible to avoid fanfare whenever he was in a crowd of any size. Lights flashed, microphones were thrust toward his face, and there were often more questions thrown at him at a time than even he could make out with his supremely heightened senses. He did not care for the attention in any measure, but he had learned to recognize the importance of having and retaining a public figure, especially with the myriad of powers at his disposal, which was not even taking into account his chairmanship over the JLA.

As he flew down upon the charity gala then, he was not surprised to be met with the blinding lights of dozens of cameras going off all at once. Despite himself, he managed to smile through it all, and even exchanged a few quick words with some of the journalists he recognized and could identify by name, both from previous interviews and his own job at the Daily Planet.

"What's your position on the rebuilding of Qurac?"

"Have you found the group responsible? What is being done!?"

"How will the JLA respond to this attack?"

"Are you here with someone?"

"You and Wonder Woman... when are you two going to come out?"

"How does it feel to stop a nuke with your bare hands? Inquiring minds want to know!"

Before the onslaught of questions, he managed to retain his smile.

"I am sure there will be a time for questions", he said, knowing full well that those words would do little to stem the tide of attention he received. Making his way into the gala proper, he smirked slightly in consideration of the last time he had appeared at one of Bruce's lavish parties, and how 'Clark Kent' had received a precise opposition reaction to the one he received now that he wore his cape.

Such was the life of a superhero.

Bruce Wayne had often benefited from the training he had learned as Batman. When he heard the commotion from the reporters outside he knew it meant someone important had shown up. And, as Bruce always had to appear to be the perfect host, and social butterfly, he made sure to be waiting at the door.

Superman walking in, dressed in his full costume may have looked out of place to most people there, but for Bruce it just reminded him of places he'd rather be. He was more then used to having Superman sitting right next to him, but for this he had to act surprised. He spread his arms wide.

"Superman! Wow, it is just... such an honor to meet you. I had no idea if you'd get the invitation or not. But thank you for coming." He waved the hero inside and indicated the hall where people milled about.

"Come in, come in, have a drink... do you... need to drink or eat?"

That he had Bruce's attention in a way he never would as Clark was amusing to him, though he chose not to make light of it in any fashion. Instead he simply followed the lead of Gotham's resident billionaire, shaking his head politely.

"No thank you, Mr. Wayne", he said. The truth of the matter was that he did not technically have to ever really eat or drink, as he gained all the nourishment he needed from solar energy of Earth's yellow sun. That he partook in eating and drinking at all was simply a byproduct of his being raised as a human by his adoptive Earth parents.

"But I would be interested in knowing what you will require of me at this gala", he said, wondering if he was just here for visible support or if he was expected to give some sort of speech or elaborate commentary. "And also, I wanted to thank yo for holding this event. The people of Qurac will need all the relief they can get."

"Well we can't repair damns with our own hands, but that doesn't mean we can sit idle." Bruce ushered him into the party, careful not to touch him. He gave casual waves to everyone who passed, a smile, a nod. A friendly comment to one mans newest trophy wife, a sly wink to one womans newest trophy husband.

"Well first off, enjoy yourself. It is a party after all, and you are the guest of honor. Aside from that, just talk to people. Tell them what you've seen over there, what the people of Qurac need, what would help. They may feel a need to get involved more personally."

Superman smiled a little. It sounded as if Bruce was just telling him to be himself, and talk to people on a level they could understand and sympathize with, but... here he was in full cape and costume. But then again, if being 'Superman' got people to listen to him in a way that they never would as Clark, he would do all that he could.

"I will do that, Mr. Wayne", he said, purposefully scoping out the crowd now for a few wealthy individuals he knew to be tight with their money. He would start with them first, as he knew many of the other guests were already well won over for the cause.

"And if you need anything of me, I'm... sure you will be able to spot me here", he half joked, as he more than stood out among the rest of the guests.

He was here. Luthor knew he was coming, but, it was now the time to decide how to deal with this. Of everything it seemed the press was forgetting that Qurac was like this because of the alien, so perhaps it was time to speak up.

Lex cleared his throat and looked over. "Ah, so I see you came. Fitting given how the situation in Qurac came to be, don't you think?"

Lois's seemingly passive interest in Superman's arrival was really a combination of playing hard to get and protecting the very private nature of their relationship. The number of interviews she got with him, paired with the number of times he had publicly saved her life, had already piqued the public's interest in the two of them. And, for the first time, Lois had realized how obnoxious her own kind could be with their prying questions. She continued to look at the picture display, throwing the occasional glance over her shoulder in his direction.

But when Lex Luthor approached, she got a bit defensive. It was bad enough that he had come to the event, and was masquerading as a genuinely well-meaning philanthropist. But he was not going to rudely accuse her boyfriend of causing the problem when he had done everything in his power to stop it from happening.

Boyfriend? That just sounded childish and stupid. She mentally erased the comment from her mind as she edged a bit closer to the guest of honor and his greatest rival. She was not outright invading the conversation, but rather lingering close enough to keep track of what was being said.
