who Aberforth and Padma
when 18 Feb 1999; around noon
where Gringott's in Diagon Alley
what Aberforth has errands to run
rating PG-13
status COMPLETE

Aberforth had left Anthony alone at the Hogs Head. He wasn't really sure how wise it was to do that, but it wasn't as if the boy could get into too much trouble. It was noon. The Hogs Head was nearly empty at noon... well, it was nearly empty most of them time, but noon on a weekday was extremely slow. He used to skive off and run errands with no one at the bar and not worry. Why was he worried with it being watched?

Grumbling to himself as he apparated to Diagon Alley, he began to lumber down the crowded business district of wizarding London. He needed to drop off some money and pick up some more, and he needed to see if everything had been approved for the restoration of the old Dumbledore property in Godric's Hollow. He was thinking about retiring back home, putting up a little goat pin out back and relaxing. Merlin knew he deserved it.

He was so lost in thought on his way to the wizarding bank he wasn't really watching where he was going. That didn't prevent him from blaming the other person when they collided, though. "Oy... watcher yer goin'," he snapped.

Padma was quickly trying to make her way acrost the crowded square over to Gringrotts. She was making the deposit run for the day; once that was done, she would be able to head to Hogsmeade and continue the negotiations for the new shoppe. She was so engrossed in her thoghts, that she walked right into the back of someone. "Oh I'm so terribly sorry!" she exclaimed. When the person turned, her face grew even darker. She had alwasy been more than a bit intimdated by the owner of the Hog's Head. "Mr. Dumbledore...I'm so sorry," she mumbled, looking down at her feet.

Aberforth narrows his eyes at the girl. "Patil, right?" he asked, even though he KNEW who she was. "Ye should be more kerful out here. I mighta been a ex-Death Eater in disguise comin' ta kill ye or sumthin." He was teasing, really, he was, but most people didn't get his humour. Sometimes he didn't get his humour.

"Can call me Aberforth, or Abe," he said rolling his eyes a bit. He'd given the name to the Lovegood girl when he was trying to keep them all from figuring out he was Albus' brother. It hadn't worked for long. Somehow 'Abe' had stuck, and he couldn't get it to unstick. "Headed to Gringott's?" he asked.

"Er, yes. Padma Patil," she said, nodding as well until she reliazed how foolish she must look. "I'm sorry, Mr...Aberforth," she said again. "Er, yes...doing some business for the shoppe," she added. "What about you? How is the Hog's Head running?" she asked politely. "We're thinking of perhaps opening a shoppe there, for the students to get potion ingredients and such when the school reopens."

"It's going," he said as he headed in the direction of Gringotts. He adjusted his lumbering pace so she could keep up with him. He hated to admit it, but he'd found that he liked company, and especially the company of the kids he'd helped during the war. They tended to be the type of folks you could trust... if there were any such people.

"Think one o yer housemates is werking fer me. Goldstein... an' his boyfriend livin' with him is werkin' at the school... wassis name? Corner."

Padma nearly stumbled when Aberforth had said what he did. Michael? Anthony? BOYFRIENDS? She tried to keep walking and not to to gape. "Oh," she managed to finally squeak out. "Er...you'll give them my regards, won't you?" she asked.

Asfter a while, she said, "Anthony...hasn't really spoken to anyone. It's good to know that he's with someone safe."

"Sure will," Aberforth agreed. He noticed her pause and replayed his last statement. Oh. Shite. Well, he hadn't meant to let it slip, but he'd been thinking of them as boyfriends since they'd shown up at the Inn. They weren't that discrete about it... but then, he knew what to look for what with Albus.

"Well, he's livin above my pub. I ain't sure how safe that is, but if you want ta think that..."

"Well, it's your pub, and I consider you someone trustworthy, so yes. It's safe," she said as they walked. "It's good to know that my friends are somewhere I know they're safe."

She was quiet as they made their way through the crowd. "Do you enjoy having everyone there?" she asked. "With the reconstruction I mean. It must be quite hectic for you."

"Is diff'rent," Aberforth replied after a moment. His inn had never really been overly popular, but he'd always made enough money to survive. When the DA had started using him as a supply depot, he'd slowly gotten used to a few more people coming and going, but now that the war was over and the entire DA and Order seemed set to attempt to make him rich, he was fairly busy. It was a nice feeling, but he'd never admit it.

"We're doin' good bizness. It's been nice havin' Goldstein's help around. He's a good lad."

"He is a good perseon," she said, "and he's good with people. At least...I always thought he was. I've not seen much of him since...well...the end of things."

They had reached the bank, and the Patil family vault was in the older part of the bank. "The gobilins were looking to escort her there quickly. "Hopefully, I will come an see you soon?" she asked Aberforth. "It feels as if I've not seen the Hog's headin ages."

"That would be good, Ms. Patil," Aberforth said. "I'll see you, soon."

He watched her as she was escorted off into the bank, before turning to the next goblin on duty, and beginning his transactions.
