Just wanted to poke my head up and say I haven't abandoned you all or forgotten. Just got busy and am letting the FAQ percolate a bit. Suggestions, ideas, questions, et al, still welcome.

What we need are FAQ suggestions! What do you think needs to be explained, how you think it should be organized, what do you think needs a place holder till we know more, what really important questions need to be answered?

My initial thoughts are that we need an FAQ that explains what we mean by mobile fic and why exactly the formats matter. And we need certain basic questions answered. I've got a few things jotted down but I'm a bit swamped with work today so if we could move ahead with the brains storming that'd be great. Feel free to ask and then answer your own questions or to just ask if you're genuinely curious and are unsure of the answer.

Quickie update: Subdomain is resolving as we speak. So volunteers to make the holding page not ugly is officially open for takers. Debate about archiving platforms will happen as soon as the FAQ conversation gets going. Figure the next few days. Since some of the FAQs cannot be completed till the archive itself is further along.

ETA: The pimping consensus is personal LJ's for now, whole fandoms after some of the FAQs make it up.

Things of note:

I type this up like I'm posting to LJ, it's not so much a bias, as a habit, so to the people on IJ and JF, I apologize for the LJ centric linking that might occasionally creep in, someone call me on it if it's something that can't easily be accounted for on your own.

Updates:

Our IJ asylum has been upgraded to permanent thanks to grimmhill, so yay grimmhill! You didn't have to and I really appreciate your generosity. (Note: We are not asking for money, we don't need money. We MIGHT need money later on. For small things such as a domain name or extra storage space.)

I've already seen some people start promoting the community around and I know I've been really bad about giving you guys some good verbiage in case you can't come up with your own. telesilla volunteered to trump up our userinfo with some words from her own LJ pimp which was very pretty. It's what I would have said if my brain wasn't so tired it could cry.

After I've had more tea, we'll get to the new emails on the userinfos, though to do that, I need to finalize the mods on all three sites. telesilla, pepsi, do you have journals on those sites?

Outreach:

I'd like to know who has pimped and where and if you haven't already, where you're planning on hitting. Mostly because I don't want to spam people's flists, it's the easiest way to get on people's nerves. I was thinking about a concerted effort that spanned a few weeks, a few communities/MLs every couple of days. Trying to reach different corners of the community in a way that is NOT annoying. Please let me know if you have ideas about that or if you've already started your own campaign (*G* yay you!). Ideas for the most useful places to pimp our community are also needed. Small pairing comms are nice, but will probably reach much of the same people if we find a few of the central bulletin boards and mailing lists.

Next up:

Expect the first organizational post for the various FAQs to come in the next few days. Also a debate on the possibility of starting a pre-approved authors list (i.e. start contacting individual authors now.)

And as always, if you have comments/questions/concerns/suggestions for doing something different, please let us know.

Finally-- I probably shouldn't be the one to decide on a tagging scheme. *sigh* Suggestions welcome there as well.

New Communities and the beginnings of Author Outreach

1. First off, thanks to amothea we have mobilefic on JF and grimmhill we have mobilefic on IJ. YAY THEM! JF's has already been made presentable, I believe LJ and IJ's will happen sometime tonight.

2. Userinfo. For now I think the userinfo's will simply reflect to two generic goals I put up yesterday:

This community was created with two basic goals in mind:
1. Provide an archive with downloadable fanfic for easy movement to various types of portable readers and fans with limited internet access. i.e. one click fic.

2. POSSIBLY provide a simple and clean website for mobile browsing.

and then a little bit about how the communities exist on other journaling services. Anyone see any problems with that?

3. With 1 and 2 done it's really time to start reaching out to the community. Let's get as many people aware of the idea and hopefully invested enough to volunteer some time.

4. Sometime soon, when the act of logging in and out of several accounts does not come hand in hand with the prospect of me flinging my keyboard across the room, I will create a gmail account to consolidate moddly question and a subdomain under my unrealwords website to sit a FAQ/Coming soon page. Volunteers to work on that sort of thing (from language, though I don't think this needs to be a novel, to coding so it looks better than black text on a white background with nothing around it) would be appreciated. Future FAQs might include various information on hand held formats and devices in more detail.

5. Organization. I figure there will be one post every day or so with a specific task that needs to be talked about and volunteered for in more detail, but we do need a few more eyes on the comm before that happens.

First of all, some of you may have just found yourselves mods. Thanks! *G* If you aren't a mod and you volunteered for modly like things, don't fret, if you're still up for it I'm sure there's PLENTY TO DO. *G*

Preliminary goals:

Here's the prelim todo list:

[Done! YAY!] 1. Move the conversation to the comm because my personal LJ has anonymous comments disabled and I most certainly don't want to limit anyone's participation.

2. Write the userinfo FAQ.

3. Create an IJ and JF comm (anyone else have suggestions) so that we can tap in on as many people as possible. I'm all for moving it off the journaling sites at some point to our own blog, but the software is already here, so I'm going to use it for now. There's other things to do first.

4. Make the LJ, IJ and JF comms look presentable. It doesn't need a lot of doing, but I suck at even the STOCK stuff that these places offer. So, something that looks like we care.

5. Figure out how to coral volunteers. Codemonkey types especially. I've got some "Is this possible without wanting to cry??" type questions. I also am not the person to figure out the various types of archiving software. Yes, we will discuss that specifically at a later date (soon), but volunteers for site admin are always welcome.

6. Now is the time to pimp this post. However since currently there is NOT information up at all, please direct people to the post in my LJ for reading, I'll link that one to here in a little bit.

7. Please comment here with ideas or suggestions or questions or general volunteeryness.

8. If anyone would like to help tackle these, please let me know. Especially if you're taking on pimping to an entire fandom.
