Sunday Special #35: Tragic Flaw

Okay, so I know this isn't really Sunday, but I didn't come up with it until now, so.. pretend it's a Sunday Special instead of a, like.. Early Early Tuesday Morning Special. :D

For the newbies, this is how it works: I pose a question or a task, and you answer in a comment for your characters. This used to be done every week but people weren't answering them all that much and it was hard to come up with that many questions. So, nowadays, I just do them when I'm inspired.

This Sunday Special is inspired by this thread with Arla and David, in which Arla says: I'm just curious. Insatiably so. Every question that's posed, I have to find an answer. That's just how I am. Work out the variables and solve the equation. Even when the answer's not worth finding out and not nearly as complicated as you thought it was... it's... It's my tragic flaw.

So, your questions are:

What is your character's tragic flaw? What's the one main thing in your character's personality that could destroy him/her?
Has that flaw been exploited in game? If so, how? If not, would you like it to be? Any thoughts as to how you'd like it to go down?

Arla Lawrence

What is your character's tragic flaw? : The obsessive need to find answers, particularly through measured, mathematical means. No question can be left unsolved or unanswered or it eats at her incessantly.

Has that flaw been exploited in game? : Oh, yes! Last year, Arla vowed on her thirtieth birthday to hunt down the people who slaughtered the Morlocks and get answers from them as to why they killed her adoptive family. The trail led straight to Mr. Sinister, who told her there was no reason for it----and she was subsequently tortured by Jack Bantock (shocked with electricity and held underwater with her gills covered). Unable to be satisfied with that answer, Arla started trying to work out Sinister's reasoning through mathematics, and in her incredibly warped state of mind she continued to come up with more and more twisted ways of making mathematical nonsense. She was driven genuinely insane with her own obsession and only in recent months has she started to return back to a somewhat normal state.

Just for kicks. :D

Ooh, you're making us think.

David de Souza

What is your character's tragic flaw? No matter what he does, David is incapable of getting over or even facing up to the guilt of having destroyed his wife. This has spiralled into guilt and then loathing of his mutation in general, and a deep-seeded hatred of having to use his full powers.

Has that flaw been exploited in game? Since almost no one knows what David's powers are yet, no, it hasn't been eploited. Me being me, I would absolutely love to see him in a situation where he's forced to vegetable-ize someone. Or several someones. It's sort of unlikely, though, both because of David's extreme unwillingness to do that to anyone and because it would effectively kill a character.

Cait Kincaid

What is your character's tragic flaw? Self-doubt based on her mutation; a constant worrying about the difference between inorganic and not-alive, and a subsequent perpetual fear of never being able to really have a place anywhere.

Has that flaw been exploited in game? The death of her father and her continued rejection by her mother helped to secure those fears in Cait's mind, and finding the Lair and the environment changed isn't helping things, but it's never been directly addressed. It's a theme I would enjoy playing with, but have no idea what that would look like.

Hisako Ichiki

What is your character's tragic flaw? Hisako is really too young to have a fatal flaw, since she'll likely grow out of most things. However, at the moment - her autimatic value judgement on anything she doesn't agree with or understand, bisecting the world into very clear blacks and whites that she had no desire to change.

Has that flaw been exploited in game? No, and I'm not entirely sure how it would come about.
