Today is a sad day for the world of knowledge.

After 244 years, the printed Encyclopedia Britannica will no longer exist. Sure, there will still be the digital editions and all, but it's just not the same experience. Not the smell of the pages, the careful illuminations, the weight of all that information right there in your hands... It was always an investment in learning, solid and dependable. I'm going to miss it.

This time of year, I really start to miss my boys. Particularly when I can hardly take five steps without seeing some image or another of my son. It always did strike me odd that everyone insists on only depicting him in his babyhood, though. He was far more striking as a young man.

I've returned to New York for the time being, now that finals are over. I don't know how long I'll be staying, since the sooner I get to Michigan, the better.
