Election results are in....
When backdated to: late Thursday night?  Whenever the elections were held and results were announced, maybe during the 11 pm news?
Who: Hudmel household, interested parties
Where:  Hummel Campaign Headquarters: aka, Hudmel living room
What: Reactions to election news

Burt had been trying to keep a lid on his nerves all day, waiting for the election results.  They were going to be announced, ironically, during the time that was usually reserved for  "Sue's Corner" on the local news.

Thankfully, the press seemed to be convinced that Sue was the front-runner, and that he was the darkest of dark horses in this campaign.  There was one lone reporter hanging around outside the house waiting to interview him when the results came in.

Since the campaign had been so small, and so brief, there wasn't really a campaign headquarters.  It was just him, and Carole, waiting for the results in the living room,  and the boys puttering around doing whatever they were doing, though he was pretty sure they were still up.

When the smarmy anchor announced that the results would be announced after the break, Burt, who'd been sitting in his recliner trying to stay calm, jumped to his feet, suddenly unable to sit still any longer, and began pacing the length of the room, half-listening to Patrick Warburton hawking Hondas.  This was it.

From her spot on the couch, Carole watched Burt pace with a small, knowing smile. Her own nerves were scrambled enough, but it had to be about ten times worse for her husband -- this was about him, after all, and all she could do was support him and cheer him on and hope that things turned out for the best, no matter what the results were.

As long as Sue Sylvester didn't end up winning the election, Carole had resolved to be content. Either Burt would get to make a difference in Washington, or he'd find another way here in Lima. She had no doubt that he'd leave his mark somehow, and she'd do his very best to help him.

"Here, come sit down," Carole told him affectionately after a moment. "Kurt's going to come down and scold you for getting yourself worked up, at this rate -- come over here and distract me from straightening the magazines again, before you wear a hole in the carpet."

He came over to perch on the arm of the couch beside her. "Have I mentioned lately that I couldn't do this without you?" he asked affectionately, taking her hand. "And that I am so, so sorry to have subjected you to some of the crap Sylvester was putting out there?
At least her exit numbers look good, for us. Good to know that the voters were looking for an alternative to her ridiculous ideas."

He sighed. "I'm just a litle worried about that pizza guy. His attack ads were even worse, and he could set kids like Kurt and Santana back miles if he wins."

"God, that man --" Carole grimaced in disgust. "I don't know how someone like that sleeps at night. I think he'd almost be worse than Sue Sylvester, because at least she didn't drag a high school student into it. I can take anything she throws at me, and Lord only knows Santana can probably handle herself, but targeting the kids is just despicable." She gave his hand a squeeze. "You're the best of the lot by a landslide, Burt Hummel. Anyone who doesn't see that isn't worth worrying about."
