It took Kurt entirely too long to put together a decent outfit for the evening but he managed to pull off something he was really proud of. He looked great and had just enough time to dress and get ready while dinner was cooking.

He'd chosen a simple recipe of Brochet au Four (a nice roasted pike, with shallots and a white wine cream sauce) and a simple salad with a balsamic dressing on the side. He wanted something delicious and uncomplicated for their evening in. It was the first time in a long time that they'd have the house to themselves, without his Dad breathing down their necks if they sat with less than 5 inches between them. Not that Kurt was planning anything inappropriate, but it would be nice to be able to relax and enjoy a quiet evening with his boyfriend.

As he waited for Blaine to arrive, Kurt just added the finishing touches to the salad and checked on the fish. It was nearly done and smelled amazing.

Blaine shouldered his bag as he slammed the door to his car, checking his watch to make sure he wasn't running late. He'd had a bit of trouble getting out of the house early as he's planned -- everything seemed to be conspiring against him today, from his dad's sudden decision to show a bit of interest in where he was going (Kurt's house, not even half an hour away, and yes, he'd be back in time for curfew), to having to search for ten minutes just to find his other shoe (kicked under his bed, should've been the first place he looked, of course). Blaine knew that even at his best there wasn't a chance in hell that he'd look half as put together as Kurt -- he'd mostly abandoned the hair gel out of frustration with the summer heat, and there was only so much he could do with a closet full of cardigans and cuffed jeans -- but at least he hadn't had to come straight from work. He'd only been half kidding about expecting Kurt to break up with him if he ever saw him in the universally unflattering 'uniform' most Six Flags employees had to wear.

Besides, he'd barely gotten to see Kurt since their last movie night a week before, it was hard to worry about how stupid his hair looked when he was a little more concerned with not showing up late.

Kurt's insistence that his dad and step-mom would be out for the night made Blaine a bit less formal that he might have otherwise been, so he pushed the front door of the Hudson-Hummel house open after a cursory knock. "Hello?" he called, and set his bag down just inside the door. "Kurt?"

Kurt was in the process of pulling the fish out of the oven when he heard Blaine arriving.

"I'm in the kitchen!" He called, placing the pyrex dish safely on the heat-safe pad on the dining table. He shucked off his oven mitts and quickly made sure all of his clothes was perfectly placed and free of any spills, double checking his hair before making his way towards the entryway to greet his boyfriend.

"Hi," he stopped just before Blaine, a little breathless with a small nervous smile on his face.

	"Hi, yourself," Blaine said, tilting his head with an appreciative grin. He leaned in and went up on his toes just slightly to kiss Kurt hello. "You have no idea how good it is to see you," he huffed as he dropped back down on his heels. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"Just a simple roast fish," Kurt lead Blaine over to the table where he'd set two plates next to eachother.
"I substituted a few items in the recipe, so you'll have to tell me if it's good. I used low fat cream and only the whites of the eggs. I want to make it for my Dad later but I had to make sure it was more heart-healthy."

He gestured for Blaine to take a seat and grabbed the bowl of salad, taking his own seat at the table.

	"I'm impressed -- this is way better than anything I could've picked up on the way in," Blaine chuckled as he settled into his chair, tucking one of his legs underneath him and angling himself toward his boyfriend. 	"It's alright. There'll be leftovers as long as Finn doesn't get to it first. And since it has neither been fried or covered in gravy, I think it's safe to say there'll be leftovers." 	Blaine lifted his eyebrows appreciatively as he dug into his fish. "Wow -- that's really good," he replied. "Finn really doesn't know what he's missing, does he?" He grinned at Kurt over his fork. 	"Bribery, of course," Kurtt replied, relieved to hear his dish was a success. He began eatting, pausing between bites to keep the conversation going. Blaine nodded as he split his focus between the food and his boyfriend. "I'll have at least one weekend shift for the rest of the summer," he clarified. "Mornings out in the park and afternoons on stage, and alternating between the two during the week. I'll get half days for the music festival, though, so I can do my own stuff as well as the standard performances." He tilted his head curiously at Kurt. "What about you, how's 'Pip Pip Hooray' coming?"

"I'll definitely have to come see you during the music festival," Kurt sipped his water.
"Pip Pip Hooray is on the backburner at the moment. I had a lot of progress the other week but I've let it sit for a while. I want to take a break from it, see if coming back to it will inspire something new. I've mostly been taking notes for whatever inspiration hits me but not really working on it."

"All in good time," Kurt teased. He was waiting to show Blaine his musical when he had the first draft complete. He was hoping to have it done before school started so he could pitch the idea to Mr. Schue as the fall musical. It would probably get rejected (like so many of Kurt's ideas) but it was worth a shot.
"Work has been fine. This summer has be rather uneventful, to be honest."

"Even if I'm not in the middle of it all, it seems like there's still a lot of drama going on this summer. Mostly with Quinn and Santana and Dave. I don't know. In a way, I don't want to know. I think for once, I'm content not to be involved." Kurt stood and picked up their now empty plates, bringing them over to the sink and setting them inside- washing could wait until later.

"The poor girl hasn't been quite the same since Prom. She came to me for advice about someone she's seeing, but she was so vague about it. Apparently- whoever they are- they're afraid of commitment. She's afraid they're still in love with an ex and that they'll cheat on her." Kurt took the glasses from Blaine and gave them a quick rinse in the sink, "Honestly, I think it's a bit hypocritical for her to be worried about that given her track record."
He dried his hands off on the kitchen towel and grabbed Blaine's hand in his, leading him to the living room.

Blaine detoured back over to the front entrance to grab his leather satchel and dropped it onto the floor in front of the couch as he joined Kurt. "I brought a couple of options, actually -- Shakespeare in Love and Amelie," he offered, sinking into the cushions and pulling out a pair of DVDs. "I wasn't sure which you'd prefer, and my French isn't remotely as good as yours, but they're both kind of on the lighter side, and I figured we could use the distraction," he grinned.

"Hmm," Kurt read over the backs of the dvd cases, flipping between the two, "How about we got with the eternal Bard? I've been curious to see this movie ever since it came out. Obviously, I was just a child when it won the Oscar but it's always been on my To See list."

Kurt got up and popped the dvd into the player and tugged the sheer curtains closed, the sun setting and creating a nice orange glow in the room.
"And I just love Gwyneth Paltrow, don't you?"
