Who: Mercedes and Artie
Where: Macy's
When: during Mercedes' shift
What: Mercedes is at work, trying to pass the time and impart some fashion wisdom, cause Lord knows some of these people need it.
Rating: She's at work, so it has to be PG

It wasn't that Mercedes didn't enjoy her job -- totally the opposite. She got paid to play with clothes, and got to dole out (sometimes unwanted) fashion advice. The pay wasn't terrible, either. Not great, but it was better than nothing, and considering that her parents were insisting that she pay for her own clothes this school year, any little bit helped. There are some things that are timeless, and there are some things that you just do not wear from one season to the other.

And shoes. You could never have too many shoes.

The bad was that all of the other salespeople had seniority over her and it seemed like every single one of them was going on vacation, which meant that she just kept getting shift after shift after shift. Which... money was good, but a girl needs a break.

Hopefully today would be interesting, she thought as she refolded the cute little lime green cardigan on the display table.

Mercedes turned -- it wasn't often that 'Yo, girl' was used to call part of the sales team -- and grinned when she realized it was Artie. "Hey," she replied brightly, making her way over to him. "What's up?"

He hadn't seen Mercedes in awhile, but he knew she worked a lot. And all the time she wasn't working was presumably spent with Sam, Artie was convinced of that by now.

"I don't know what I'm doing, exactly," he confessed. "Hey, you work here. And you're a girl. So, what should I get my big sister for her birthday? I have a budget of about twenty five bucks, that's it. Should I even bother shopping here?"

"You know I can stretch a dollar if I have to," Mercedes chuckled, thrilled at the challenge. "So... a birthday present for $25..." she murmured, pondering. "Tell me about her. What sort of things does she like and then we'll start searching."

Artie fixed Mercedes with a blank look. What did Amy like? "Uh, well, she's kind of... preppy? I guess that would be a good description of her style. She's a nursing student. She's getting married in the spring. She... wears... clothes."

Artie could not thoroughly describe her clothes. He was the type of guy who could explain the most complicated math equation around or spout out a million facts about white rappers, but clothes were just clothes. He thought the word 'preppy' ought to be enough though.

"She wears clothes..." Mercedes trailed off, trying so hard not to laugh out right at that. Well of course she wore clothes! Boys, she thought, shaking her head.

"Okay, preppy is totally a place to start," she said. "And you don't want to get her something nurse-y, cause as soon as she graduates everyone will get her something with 'World's Greatest Nurse' on it. So that's a no. I think accessories are where it's at," she said with a grin, not least of all because that was the area she was assigned to today. She moved behind Artie to push him towards a few of the spinning displays. "We could always do a pin," she mused. "Because if she does the whole preppy thing, I'm thinking cute sweaters. You know, like Ms. Pillsbury... only, you know, younger," she amended. "Ooh, or a cute headband. If she's a nurse, she'll want her hair off of her face. And you could get something in a really cute color..."
