Harry's Office
So, I'm kicked back, reading a book, listening to it rain, waiting for the phone to ring.

This is the part of my job that's a bit on the boring side. I don't mind most of the time. Not until it's time to pay my rent.

There's no ringing phone, but there is a soft knock at the door. On the other side he'll find Rosa, looking more than a little ... damp.

Nevermind that her clothes are their usual light colours and rather ... clingy. She doesn't look particularly cold -- in fact, she looks rather pleased with herself. Rain was something she had come to love in Chile when it graced her with its presence.

I have the urge to quote Poe - I won't. Not all that fond of ravens. Not that I have anything against them, I'm just not that into birds. Dogs, cats, gimme, no feathers.

My breath catches in my throat when I open the door and see Rosa. Not just Rosa, but Rosa in wet, pale-colored clothing that is doing some interesting things that clothing of the style she wears doesn't normally do. I think the innocence of this young woman is going to be the death of me.

Rosa flashes him a slightly impish grin and peers inside.

"I am not interrupting, am I?" Because if she was, surely she could come back after a little more time in the rain. "I was taking a walk in the rain," she explains, "And ended up here." Funny how often that seems to happen, Harry.

I blink. "You were walking in the rain - on purpose?"

I can't say that I've found myself doing that, except to walk Mouse.

"Of course. It is nice, the wet."

The water. If she trusted the streets to be cleaner, she'd have walked around with no shoes.

"You like being wet in your clothes?"

Though, I should probably be glad she didn't do this in the middle of Chicago winter.

"When it is nice outside."

Duh, Harry.

Reasonably warm rains are considered 'nice'. Thunderstorms? Perhaps not as much, but it's the summer.

"Right. Of course."

Suddenly my brain remembers that we're still standing in the hallway. I step back and hold the door open. "Come on in." And damn, if my eyes don't involuntarily follow every move she makes.

If she notices, she doesn't make it terribly obvious. When he steps back she nods and slips inside, shifting from foot to foot. Sitting down isn't in the cards right now since she's wet.

So Harry will just have to get the full-body view for the time being.

Forgive me for peering around for a picnic basket or little brown bag, but it's easier to assume she's brought me food, than that she's here, in my office, wet and looking vulnerable as she drips on my office rug.

"Uh - you can sit. The chair won't mind." It's got it's share of stains, a little water might actually help.

She blinks. "I don't really want to sit down and get your chair wet even if it doesn't mind."

Rosa leans awkwardly against the chair - which hikes up the wet material of her dress a little more than probably comfortable for poor Harry.

"Sit in the chair, Rosa," I direct her and push the door closed. This is for her own good as much as mine.

"Why?"

When she sits, the skirt dress doesn't move much. It's a bit too clingy for that.

"Because it'll keep me from walking into poles." Despite the lack of any in the office itself.

She merely blushes and shakes her head.

"There aren't any poles in here," she points out quietly.

"Tell that to my forehead," I mutter.

I wave a hand toward her, "You want a drink? Water and instant coffee's all I've got."

"No thank you."

Rosa shifts a little and smiles. "Now that school is over, I have more spare time." Is she hinting? Maybe.

"Yeah?" I grab a bottle of water from the little shelf where I keep my coffee and crack the bottle open. I take a long sip while planning my words.

"And what do you have planned for these copious amounts of time you now have?" I ask, making my way back to my desk.

"I don't know, really." She's hoping to spend some time visiting him, but she won't outright say so.

That would mean bringing up other awkward parts of their conversation from the last time they were together.

Rosa pouts.

"I can plan things when I know how people are going to act. You're always very confusing and that makes it difficult to plan anything at all." She does sound genuinely put-out.

[info]wizard_dresden

"Really? Am I that confusing?" It's got to be her, or something about her. I don't think I'm confusing.

I pinch my nose. "I'm sorry, Rosa."

Considering what happened the last time she and I made plans, I'm not sure that planning things for the two of us is a good idea.

"And, until very recently, you were still engaged to be married, correct?"

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"It's been three months," she points out quietly when he talks about her being engaged, shrugging just a little.

Rosa frowns a little when he apologizes, though, and pushes herself up to stand with a slight tilt of her head. "Why are you apologizing?"

"That's 'recently'."

Recently enough for me, in any case.

"For being confusing...?" I think. Now I'm confused.

"Oh, all right."

But now she's standing and she's close to him. Even though she's not cold being as wet as she is ... well. She can't quite help the way she leans in just a little.

She's leaning - into me. She's wet and kind of cold. And, damn me, I slip my arm around her. I can't ever be grouchy with her for long. Her innocence is an odd force and sometimes overwhelming - or confusing. Maybe both.

"Explain to me again why you were walking in the rain?"

Rosa tilts her head against his shoulder with a slight smile and a sigh.

"Because it was warm outside and I wanted to do something in the rain."

"When you live somewhere that is very hot all of the time, you start to like the cool and wet."

Of course.

I shake my head.

"Cool, yes. Wet? Nah. Because as soon as it stops raining, you're sticky and that's worse."

[info]mightbeamermaid

"Is it?" She wiggles her toes in her shoes and holds up a very clingy sleeve.

"I do not mind it so much. Unless you think I should get out of these." Oops, unintentional suggestion. That happens sometimes.

Suddenly all of the air is gone and it's difficult to put words together. I hate it when that happens.

"Uh, no, you're fine. But, yeah, clothes that stick are bad."

Yes! Caveman!Harry. Perfect.

Rosa is more or less confused by this.

She blinks and gives his hand a tight squeeze. "Are you all right?"

"Good. I have a few things here I need to do here, but I'm done after that."

I try not to get too much of her scent in my nose or I might do something I shouldn't.

"You want to go ahead and get started? I'll be there in about an hour?"

She nods a little, thinking. It isn't like she has anything dry to wear.

Well, he probably won't mind her borrowing, right?

Right.

"I can do that. I will see you soon, Harry." And then she starts to slide away to his apartment to start to rummage something up.
