Harry's Office
Business is slow.

Contrary to popular belief, I don't really mind that on some days. Today, I mind. Why today? Because in today's mail I received a polite note from my landlord about my rent. I'm a little late with the rent this month. Okay, a lot late. I can't help it that Mouse and Mister both needed annual check-ups and I needed a few repairs to the Beetle... all at the same time.

That little bit of change from the Council isn't as much as one might think.

I could try that savings account thing, but I don't know that it'd work out as well as everyone thinks.

Rosa has gotten into that 'school takes up all possible free time' thing lately, but that doesn't mean she's forgotten about Harry. She's finally had some free time, so she wanders to his apartment to find nobody home and ... thusly decides to wander over to his office.

She's got Irish Cream truffles and a St. Patrick's day cake. It's not too long before she pops her head into the office.

"Harry...?"

My nose twitches about two seconds before someone opens the door. People usually knock. Or maybe she did and I didn't hear it on account of my afternoon nap.

"Well, you're the only person I know always ready for today's holiday."

My snark-generator's off. I just woke up.

"No fae with green hair?" She's actually somewhat surprised by this.

The cake and truffles are summarily set onto his desk. "Happy St. Patrick's day." The food is accompanied by one of her usual grins.

"I did say 'person'. The fae aren't really people."

I eye the objects she's placed on my desk and hear my stomach rumble. Come on, I had breakfast.

Four hours ago.

"You really like cooking, don't you?"

"Yes. It is calming." And it also means she has excuses to visit people outside of her dormmates. That's always good.

If I could cook, I might try that myself.

"And, what brings you out to my office?"

I haven't had a visitor in a couple weeks, a client in a couple days. This is pathetic.

"To visit." Duh, Harry. If she'd just wanted to bring him the food, she'd have slipped it into his ice box and gone back home.

She takes a seat across from him and peers at him curiously. "Did I ... interrupt?"

"Only the nap that I shouldn't have been taking anyway."

Except all of my billings are done, my checkbook balances as well as it always does (meaning, it's in the red and I know about it). Nothing left for me to do but read or nap. And reading takes too much energy.

"You still have to go home when you finish school?" I pick great topics, don't I?

"And get married," she confirms, resisting the urge to ask him why on Earth he thought it would be a good thing to bring up.

She fidgets her hands in her lap instead of saying something stupid.

I shrug. "So don't go back."

This really seems the simplest answer. I know, I talk about family and how important it is, but the antiquated ritual of pairing off your family members to other people, especially ones they don't like, gets my hackles up.

And she frowns at him.

"I would never do such a thing." Family is very important to her despite the fact they're far away.

"Which such a thing? Going back or staying here?"

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]mightbeamermaid

She frowns.

"Staying here. I cannot just leave my family like that."

"Yeah, didn't figure you would. But it is an idea."

Just, maybe not a very good one.

[info]mightbeamermaid

"Let me know if you have a better idea." Because that one was silly.

For example, marrying someone else (whether she was planning on keeping the vows or not) would be a viable solution.

[info]wizard_dresden

he'd actually thought about that, but didn't say it

"Yeah. That's me. Great Idea Man. I should get my own comic book."

A pause.

"And a cape."

[info]mightbeamermaid

"I could make you a cape," she murmurs completely seriously, arching a brow at him.

No, really. She'll totally do it.

I peer up at her and feel my eyebrow arching up my forehead.

"I'm really going to have to teach you sarcasm, aren't I?"

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]mightbeamermaid
2008-03-19 04:08 am UTC (link)
She tilts her head, curious.

"Why? I would not want to be sarcastic." Some sarcastic people are very mean.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]wizard_dresden
2008-03-19 03:15 pm UTC (link)
"Thanks."

Am I mean?

"I meant, teach you to recognize it better. I don't actually want a cape."

I get enough shit from people as it is. If I wore a cape... I don't even want to think about that.

And rest assured, Harry, it would be a flamboyant cape indeed.

She resists the urge to pout at him. "Oh, all right."

"Hey, chin up. I don't need a cape. It would get caught on everything and I'd never figure out how to fly with it. It's best if I stay on the ground, don't you think?"

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]mightbeamermaid

Rosa tilts her head again, thinking.

"I suppose so. It would be safer." And she does still worry about him being safe.

I waggle my eyebrows at her.

"Hey, if I run into lampposts just walking, imagine what I could do if I could fly."

That should end the cape discussion pretty quickly.

She blinks. "Look down my blouse and fly into a jet engine."

Her roommates have been a bad, bad influence on her.
