Cook County Hospital
It's a little after nine a.m. Cameron's fed B.O. and is working on the coffee. There isn't much to do until there's either a case or her boss makes his morning (closer-to-noon) arrival.

On his desk are three fellowship applicant files awaiting his perusal. Someone thinks he needs to hire the rest of his team. This time, that someone isn't Cameron.

They've had a few cases, nothing spectacular, but some interesting ones that they've been able to solve without killing the patient. The number of clinic hours logged though, is a testament to the boredom level.

Cameron takes a seat at her computer to go through House's e-mail.

It was closer to ten, when House made his way to the office. He shook himself out of his coat and hung it on the back of his chair. He scratched his hands through his hair and looked down at the files on his desk. A sigh indicated he wasn't thrilled about the prospect of going through applicants. He and Cameron were handling things quite fine on their own, he didn't see the point in bringing in a couple more stooges to gum up the works.

"Morning," Cameron called from her desk. Deliberately, she does not mention the applicant files on his desk. Additional doctors on the team would be helpful. Between she and House, they know quite a lot, but there have been times when she's had to spend some pretty late nights digging through search engines and texts and anything else to locate information for a flurry of symptoms that don't seem to make sense.

He grumbled a response, that might have sounded like a request for coffee. He didn't mind the late nights, since he didn't sleep much, or very peacefully, anyway. Having something to do helped.

He may not mind, but Cameron doesn't live on Vicodin.

She's lurking in the doorway with two mugs, both containing coffee goodness, his having a bit of sugar added to it (though not nearly as much as hers). Her eyes are focused on his desk instead of his face when she asks, "Do you want to move into my house?" There's a brief silence where her stomach lurches as her mind rifles through the many ways that question could be taken. She amends with: "I mean, I have an extra room and your piano is already there. Plus, that hotel you're in can't be all that comfortable." She blinks up at him, then back down to the coffee mugs in her hands.

He was too stunned even to reach for the coffee. He leaned back in his chair, and stared at her. Maybe he'd heard her wrong? But he didn't think so. He swallowed and finally found the ability to reach for the mug.

Her fingers relinquish their hold on the mug - she thinks that one was his. They'll know soon enough if it's not. However, she's not looking at him as he takes his coffee, far too embarrassed by her obviously uncomfortable suggestion. It's all she can do to hide enough of the blush of her cheeks to slink back to her side of the door, muttering, "Nevermind. Forget I asked. I'm an idiot."

He sipped his coffee, and scanned one of the files on his desk. He's annoyed with the tediousness of reviewing files. Words on a page didn't do justice to how a person would actually perform in the heat of the moment. It was pointless, as far as House is concerned. He was not going to make a decision based on a file. He needed to see action, reaction, and result.

He sighed, and after ten minutes or so, moved the the doorway between his office and Cameron's. "Fine. We split everything fifty-fifty. I'm not moving in to pay your bills."

The sudden sound of his voice around the corner startled her so much she accidentally typed a flurry of 'kalksdjflksgj' in the middle of an e-mail reply to a request for a consultation.

She wishes her jaw hadn't dropped open when she turned to face him, but she couldn't make it shut fast enough without looking stupid. "I - uh - I wouldn't ask you to." Honestly, she should've been more surprised at 'fifty-fifty', figuring he'd want his share to be smaller. "Can I get that in writing?" Hey, if she's gotta clean toilets, so does he.

"No." He turned and headed back to his desk. His coffee was getting cold, after all.

"You've been to my place." He kept a clean living area. Papers and books scattered everywhere, but that was work. He didn't have trash laying around, his bathrooms and kitchen were clean.

"Admittedly, I wasn't there for very long." Not really for any of the times she was there.

"You also lived alone. Except when Wilson was there and he told me some of the little tricks you pulled."

"If I didn't leave my socks in the living room when I lived alone, why would I become a slob just because I'm living with someone else?" House leaned against the door, trying to appear mildly disinterested. "And what? You think I'm going to put your hand in a pot of cold water after you go to sleep?"

"Aren't you supposed to use warm water?" She's praying he doesn't ask how she knows that.

"Forgive my mild paranoia, but you are known for being slightly lazy. Not that I mind really. You're kinda cute when you're asleep."

Well, it was good to know she knew the trick. He wondered what else she knew.

"You're the one who suggested it. Not me. You know what you're dealing with."

"You're the one who suggested the fifty-fifty. I just want you to know that I'm not Wilson, I won't let you get away with stuff like he would." She's not going to rub his nose in the dirty dishes or anything, but she might fix him with a stern look or two and try to take away his piano privileges or something.

"Huh. If I have to do all the housework, then it's seventy-thirty - with you on the seventy."

She's not going to get herself wrangled into being the domestic as well as the roommate.

A tip of her head. "Unless you hire a housekeeper. Then we're back to fifty-fifty."

"You know what? Forget it." He sulked back into his office, uninterested in continuing the conversation for now. To make his point, he flipped on his turntable, and an old Stones album.

"Right. Are you in the seventh grade?" she asks the empty doorway. A moment later she's standing in the doorway. "Really. You don't get your way, so you take your ball and go home?" As much as she's trying to be annoyed, it's almost - cute - watching him pout.

Smoothly, one leg in front of the other, she moves from the door to his desk, then props a hip against the side. "Well, I could do something else."

"We don't have to do it in the office," she says with a soft, sexy smile. She's not actually interested in having sex in the office - not today - she's interested in talking to him, listening to him. If this is how she gets him to talk, this is how she'll do it.
