Entry tags:marianne o'connell

Who: Karl O'Connor, Marianne O'Connell, mentions of Allaister & Landon, open
What: Meeting. All over again.
When: 10:30 am, March 11
Where: O'Connell's and progressing
Rating/Status: TBA (probably higher rather than lower)/Incomplete

Karl O'Connor stared at the front of the bar and grill. "O'Connell's Bar and Grill," the sign read. Just like he remembered from Landon's having seen it. He knew she was in there, because he could feel her. "Marianne," he muttered under his breath, and half to himself. "I know you're in there."

He stepped forward, guitar case slung over his back. If all else failed, he could always say he was looking for a job and hadn't really intended to run into her...Turning his slight frown into a warm smile, he stepped through the door. He could smell the undercurrent of previous visitors, visitors that weren't exactly human, and had left at least some sign of their presence.

He didn't see her, but he could smell her. It was stronger than he'd remembered, probably because she spent a lot of time there, in the bar. He just hoped she didn't expect him to be alright with having Allaister there with her during the day. Karl disliked the thought of having his four-year-old at a bar and grill, even if it was a family one.

He approached the bar quietly, making very little noise, and when he finally reached the counter, he rapped his knuckles very, very gently against it. "Ahh...Miss O'Connell, are you here?" he asked, a soft Southern drawl tainting his words a little.

Marianne had been busy stocking up the bottom of the bar that morning, she hadn't paid much attention to who came and went from the bar this morning. Her mind was focused on other things, including and especially Jamie's message about Sebastian finding someone who could give them information on those that were taking the supernaturals. That had caused her to break more than one case of liqour as she carried them up the stairs.

At the voice and the noise on top of the bar, she let loose a muffled curse when her head smacked against the place beneath the bar. "Yeah, yeah, I'm here. Shit." She muttered and didn't even bother to use her sense of smell to see who it was. She got a lot of odd customers in here with accents and it wasn't like she was expecting anyone. Then again, that right there was the point in and of itself, she wasn't expecting him and he was here. "If you want breakfast, it's over near the Grill. And if you run out on the bi--" That was when the smell hit her and she smacked her head off of the bottom of the bartop again as she came scrambling up. "Sweet Mother Mary!"

She stared at him for a full minute, her knuckles were turning white from the grip that she had on either arm with the effort it took her not to bolt for the nearest door. "I, um, hi..Karl." Apparently, her trying not to bolt for the nearest door didn't last very long and she took off for the back door through the kitchen despite the risk of having a pan thrown at her by Rosie. She'd risk the old woman's temper compared to whatever might come out of her mate, and ex fiancée’s mouth.

A yelp left her lips when a pan hit her in the back and she turned to glare at Rosie. "So not in the mood Rosie.." She muttered before bolting out the door and down the street. Hell, she could probably make it to Ellesandra's before he caught up with her; then again, she'd always underestimated his speed and how fast that he could track her down when they were in the same town. She was also overestimating herself with how tired she currently was with everything that had been happening plus worrying about both Karl and Allaister out there in this mess.

Karl dropped his guitar as soon as she surfaced. He expected her to run. He knew her. She'd run before, she'd do it again. He stuck his hands in his pockets. "Mari," he greeted her pleasantly.

And then he realized she was running and he sprang after her, checking first to be sure no one would notice if he jumped over the counter. As soon as she ran into the kitchen, he had a feeling it wasn't going to be pretty. Especially after he heard her yelping and then a pan clattered to the floor.

He came through the kitchen doors just as she was leaving the back of the bar. He shot a glance at the old woman and gave her what passed for a smile in the midst of pursuing his mate. "I...am...she's my...fiancée, and...I'm terribly sorry for bargin' into your kitchen like that, ma'am..."

That wasn't enough to save him from getting a pan thrown his way, but he did manage to duck before it hit him. "Jesus Christ, lady! I said I was sorry!" He raced for the back door before she could throw any more pans in his direction. And then he was hit with having to worry about which way she'd gone. It was a really, really good thing he was a werewolf...

"Sweet Mother Brigid be kind, damn old woman is a freaking bear about that kitchen." She muttered as she continued to run down the street; she had to think fast of where the hell she was going to go. She could go to Noir, she could go straight to Jamie's house, or she could go to Elle's shop. One of the three would work wonders and there was no way in hell Karl'd...okay, maybe he could. She didn't know; she couldn't hide out at the shop or Jamie's house forever. She wasn't a chicken shit, it was more that she had no idea what to say to him that didn't involve an argument.

The bad thing about running from someone who was almost as fast as she was had to be the fact that he could smell her out too. She kept running, tennis shoes hitting the ground hard. She was thankful she wasn't like most business owners who were stupid enough to wear heels into work. Otherwise wouldn't have been able to make it half as far as she had.

She cut down a back alley to try to shorten the length of time between her bar and Ellesandra's; that didn't do her much good since she was basically running on blind panic now. She couldn't remember which alley way would take her to Elle's. She skidded to a stop in front of the wall in front of her and muttered a quick curse. Only way to go was up, or back. But she was pretty sure that he was hot on her tail and had seen the direction that she'd gone, so the only way to go was up. Her eyes scanned for a foot purchase and hand purchase swiftly and once again muttered a curse when she didn't find one. Only way to go now was back.

Now to figure out if he was going to be at the end of that alley waiting on her or if she would have a straight shot for Noir. She wasn't going to try Elle's, God only knew what the hell Elle of all people would do to the poor man. Jamie might immobolize him. So again, she took off down the alley..

Karl wished, for just a moment, that he'd come at a later time. One where he'd be able to turn into a wolf and track her down and not attract any notice, because...hey, as a wolf, he pretty much just looked like a dog. In the dark, at least.

He could smell her, and he could almost feel her. Almost, mind you. He lunged down another alley, and then...the scent was stronger and he could feel her again. Marianne, he sent. I know you're there. Running isn't helping you...

He waited at the end of the alley. It was a dead end, he knew from scanning her mind. He tensed, waiting for her to return. He could wait there all day - he'd left their son with someone he trusted, and he didn't have anywhere else to be. She, on the other hand, had a business to run, and she was going to have to come out eventually...

"Marianne," he called softly. "Will you just come back here for a minute?" He wasn't going to strangle her when she came out, either. He wasn't. He wanted to...but he wasn't going to. Instead, he flexed his hands, curling them into fists and then stretching his fingers back out again. "Come on, Mari..."

At night, she could have got to Ailsa's and Sebastian's beforehand, then again, she had a feeling that Sebastian might find the whole thing inherently amusing and laugh himself stupid before he tossed her back out of the house. Probably right into Karl's waiting arms or something along those lines; Sebastian was a pain in her ass even if Ailsa loved him. Though, she could be way off on that particular part of his character..but she thought not.

This game was getting old pretty fast, apparently since he took the route of speaking directly to her mind. On any other time, that might have made her freeze up and stop running, but she wasn't going to at that moment. If she could get over that blasted wall, she wouldn't be having this problem at all.

Her shoulders slumped a little bit before she leaned back against the wall. He was there, she could smell him. She had to get back to the bar, this was just absurd. Completely, utterly, absurd. She shouldn't be running from him; she was the damn Alpha...then again, there was only herself and her cousin left. Allaister had her blood and Karl's blood; so he was O'Connell and yet..not. And Karl, well..he was..Karl.

Listening to his voice, she sighed a little. She'd always loved to listen to him talk and she'd always loved to listen to him sing as well. She could sit or lay for hours just listening to both. It hadn't just been the fact that he was her mate there was something else to it as well, she'd just never figured it out. She looked forward and then took a deep breath before she started to walk forward, stopping just out of his hand's reach. "Karl..I.." What the hell was she supposed to say to him? She looked at his hand for a moment and then his face.

"I'm not gonna strangle ya," he drawled. "So stop actin' like I am." Karl crossed his arms as she stopped a few feet away from him, just so far that he couldn't reach out and touch her.

He waited until she was at a full stop, and he knew she was debating what to say. "Don't try sayin' anything. There ain't much you can say, little missy. You ran out on someone you love - two someones, if I count for anything. Now before you say anything about me trackin' ya down, you have to know something." Karl sucked in a breath and uncrossed his arms, sliding his hands into his pockets as if relaxing slightly.

"I wouldn't be here if someone I know hadn't told me he knew you were here. And somethin' else...I haven't been lookin' for ya. If you were gonna come back, you were gonna come back. And if not...well then, damnit all to hell, at least Allaister'd have me. Seeing as I'm not so likely to run at the first hint of a little bit of a rocky patch."

"Oh well, I suppose that that is a relief." Sarcasm dripped from every word and let her hands rest behind her, slightly clenched. How the hell was she going to get through this one?

"Karl." And then he went back to whatever it was that he was saying. Her eyes narrowed on him and she just listened, for now that's the only choice that she did have. If she tried to bolt again, he'd be on her pretty quick. Then again, running wouldn't help his temper any. Oh, he certainly counted for someone that she loved.

"Someone you know, huh? Do tell, Karlton." Her eyebrow shot up a second later and she just glared at him. "Don't you dare..I was, damn it Karl, I was going to look for both of you when this shit blew over! I didn't want the two of you here where you were in danger." And then the last part of that sentence hit her and her hand came around to hit him. "Fuck you. I should've taken him with me, because..and..you.." She just growled at him; she hadn't left because of a fight, she hadn't left for any other reason beyond that she was scared. "..don't understand."

"Well, I could," he stated matter-of-factly. "If I wanted to, bad enough." Karl kept his gaze on her, until she went through saying his whole name.

Nothing could irritate Karl like being called Karlton. Not even Landon purposely running into walls. Face hardening into a glare, he brought his hand up to catch her hand. He knew she was going to hit him and he'd been prepared. Or rather, he'd been expecting her to hit him since he mentioned running out on him and Allaister - or maybe since he called her little missy. He couldn't rightly remember at this stage.

"Well," he drawled. "I was gonna tell you who it was, an' then you went off and called me Karlton. You were scared, Mari, that's what you were. We both know it, an' we both knew it then, too. You left Allaister because you knew you couldn't take care of 'im. You also knew he was a majority of why you were scared."

"You wish." She replied calmly, her arms crossing over her chest before she swung.

When he caught her hand, she just looked at him, her fingers loosening enough to slip through his. He shouldn't effect her like this, but he did. And there wasn't a damn thing in the world that she could do about it. She looked away from him, taking a deep breath she looked back to him. She had wanted her son, she had wanted him...but she'd seen what her mother was like when she had lost her mate. She didn't want to end up like that.

"Well..I'm.." She paused for a moment and took a deep breath. "..I'm here now, Karl. And I'm not going anywhere, so you'd best get used to it. I'm not..okay, I'm still scared shitless. Mostly because I don't know how you're going to react to any of this, because I don't want to lose you damn it and I already have. I screwed up..and right now, I'm too damn tired to fight with you." She stepped forward, cautiously and lifted her other hand to rest it against his face. "And I don't want to fight with you. I'm not going to run again, I'm not..I can't say that I'm not scared. Because trust me, I'm still scared. Of you, of..this..all of it. But I'm not running." She hated giving in, she absolutely hated it..but he was hers and she was his. That was all there was to it.

"Glad to see you have some sense," he muttered, twining his fingers with hers as her hand loosened.

Karl held her hand with his own, and rested the other on his hip. "You're here," he said. "And you say you aren't goin' anywhere, but I don't think I believe you yet. I don't think I'm ready to believe you." He squeezed her fingers lightly. "A postcard woulda been nice. A phone call. You coulda written me a Goddamned letter and instead, what did I get? I get my bondmate telling me you're here and that I better hurry, because if I don't, I might just miss you again. Your son, Mari, your son...you missed his everything. First word, which was Daddy, in case you're interested. First steps. All those little firsts that make everybody else go outta their way to see 'em happen."

He dropped his tone, making it audible to her, and her alone. "You're just lucky he's so young he can't change yet. Or are you planning on missing that, as well?" He paused, took in a deep breath, and began again. "I'm sorry, that was...that was uncalled for. Let's just go get him. Cat says he's starting to pester him about when I'll be back."

"Guess you could say that." She replied, her fingers tightening on his slightly. It was like coming home.

At least, it felt like that until he started talking again. She closed her eyes again and bit down on her lip to swallow whatever she was feeling at that. Anger, something else. "I had to work myself out, love." And there it was, everything that she had knew she would miss with her son. His first words, his first steps, she had wanted to see them. She had wished time and again that she hadn't left them, that she had stayed with Karl and that they could have somehow worked it out. "I wish I had been there, I made a mistake. I should have stayed, we could have worked it out somehow; it wasn't you and it wasn't Allaister." He would remember her fear about mates; her fear with her father having died and her mother caring for little except her death.

"No, I'm not going to miss that!" Her other hand came up to smack him, because he'd hit that fear that she had been feeling. If she didn't find her son and her mate on time, she would miss that first change; miss helping her son through it. "He's here?" She whispered, her heart picking up it's pace; aching to see the little boy who had stolen it when he had first been born. "Oh yes, let's go get him. I want to see him..how big is he? Do you think he'll hate me? Do you think he'll be happy to see me?" She tugged Karl's hand gently and stepped to him to touch her lips very lightly to his. "I have a house, with loads of space...you guys can move in there.."
