Who: Ailsa and Bastian
When: January 9, early evening
Where: Bastian’s house
What: Waking up
Rating: PG-13 *faint*
Status: Complete

Oddly cold, Ailsa stirred fitfully in Bastian’s bed, throwing one arm over her face and moaned a bit. She couldn’t for the life of her figure out why she was so groggy, nor why it took a concentrated effort for her to even open her eyes. But, once she had, she looked around Bastian’s room, her brow wrinkling when she didn’t see him in bed next to her. The night prior was still a bit foggy, but the feeling of the newly scabbed cuts on her body objecting to her movement brought a great deal of it into sharp relief. “Bastian?” she called hoarsely, her voice barely above a whisper, and her throat felt as if it were coated in sand paper.

Sitting up weakly, Ailsa looked down at herself and gave a faint smile, seeing that Bastian had changed her into her pyjamas before putting her in bed. It was little things like that that made her love him, and she shook her head a bit before gingerly getting out of bed, wrapping a blanket around her shoulders and heading to the stairs.

It took her a good five minutes to get up them, stopping to rest more than once, but once she’d made it, she wandered into the kitchen, hearing clinking. Seeing Bastian standing there, Ailsa smiled. “Hi baby.”

Bastian stood in his kitchen, staring out the back window with a bottle to his left and a wine glass in his hand. Two empties were set on his right beside the sink. He'd been up and awake since the night of the exorcism and all that kept him going was the blood he'd been pounding back like a warm ale from his past.

Lost in thought, he didn't even hear her coming up the stairs and it was only the shuffling of the blanket when she made it up the stairs that got his attention. Turning his head when she came in, he scowled. "You should be in bed." he said, the gentleness in his voice opposite to the look he gave her. He set the glass down and moved towards her and eased his arm around her waist. "Ellesandra said that you were to do nothing for at least a day. Jamie's given you three days off and your friends..I'm assuming they'll stop by at some point." he said. "How are you feeling baby?"

Okay, that wasn't the reception she'd been expecting, that was for sure. At least, the look he gave her seemed a little off the mark, considering everything that had happened. However, the sound in his voice and the arm around her waist alleviated Ailsa's worries a bit and she leaned against him, pulling the blanket tighter around her shoulders, and let out a sigh.

She smiled a bit at what he told her and nodded. "I feel like I'm..." she started, but what she'd planned to say didn't make much sense in her head. "Like everything's going in slow motion," Ailsa admitted. "And I'm freezing. But you know what?" she asked, looking up at him with a smile. "I'm free."

He helped her adjust the blanket, cursing his own nature and body temperature when she said she was freezing. As he was standing there in only a pair of pajama pants, he wasn't going to be much help in keep her warm. "I don't know what to tell you." he said softly, looking down at her.

"But yes my love. You're free. It's just you and I here..nothing else." he told her. "I do have something for you though." he told her as he moved her to one of the stools by the counter before moving to the fridge. "Ellesandra dropped this off for you." he said. "You're to drink it," he paused to reach up into the cupboard for a glass and continued as he uncapped the bottle and filled the glass. "now and a cup of it every 2 hours. I'm assuming until it's finished." he said as he set the glass in front of her. "I don't know what it is but Ellesandra said it would help you recover." he said. "Go on. Drink it."

Ailsa smiled. "And it's always going to be that way," she said softly, not needing Matt to tell her that she would be forever free from that demon.

Her eyebrow raised when he said he had something to give her, and then immediately fell when she realised it wasn't as happy a surprise as she'd thought it would be. Taking the glass from him, Ailsa took a sip and then made a face, wanting to dump it in the sink. But, as she knew she wouldn't get away with that, Ailsa plugged her nose and downed the glass quickly, setting it on the counter and coughing a bit. "I swear, they get more disgusting every time she makes me something," she grumbled. But, already, she did feel a bit warmer, so that was something, at least.

Looking Bastian over, Ailsa cocked an eyebrow. "You haven't slept, have you?"

"Yes..it is." he agreed. He watched her pick up the glass and cringed as she made a face at it. "That...was disgusting." he remarked. "And it smells foul." He shook his head and shuddered. "Perhaps it's her dislike of me that has her making the concoctions taste as they do. Maybe she thinks you'll give me up so you don't have to drink those." he said shuddering again. "I hope they help though. She can kiss my ass." he told her.

Lowering his head when she scrutinized him, he shook his head no. "I haven't." he admitted. "I wanted to make sure you were alright." he said, glancing up at her. "I spent some time holding you and then moved to the chair..up here for something to..eat..back downstairs. I couldn't sleep baby. I forced myself to stay awake until I knew that you were fine." he said, swallowing a little. "What happened last night took a lot out of you and I was scared you'd not wake up."

Ailsa let out a short laugh. "You weren't the one that had to drink it," she said pointedly. She rinsed out her glass and then filled it with water, swishing it around in her mouth a second before spitting it into the sink, using her hand to block the action from Bastian's view. Not that it really mattered. "Oh stop," she scolded. "You know perfectly well that's not true. She's a bitch, but she's not that bad. And it already is helping."

Clicking her tongue, Ailsa shook her head at him and then took his hand in hers. "I'm fine. Weak, but fine. You need to sleep, Bastian. You get cranky when you don't sleep," she teased, giving him a little grin.

"Thank god because I wouldn't have." he stated. "It smells like rotting flesh." he shuddered again. Bastian snorted. "I'm not going to disagree. She is a bitch and I can't stand her. I'm sure the feelings mutual." he said. "Are you going to tell her?" he asked. "Or have you changed your mind?" he asked softly.

He curved his fingers with hers and shook his head. "I'm fine. I'll sleep when you do. Now that I know you're alright.." he cupped her cheek with his free hand. "Besides. It is night and I couldn't sleep now if I tried. But I will. I promise. I'll fall asleep holding you and if I may be selfish..I'm looking forward to having you here to myself for a few days." he said.

"Okay, that's just gross," Ailsa complained, mirroring his shudder. "Tell her what?" she asked, and then realised what he was talking about, and nodded. "At some point, I suppose. Or I'll just walk in one night and she'll know," she shrugged. "Ellesandra isn't on my list of people that need to be informed right away, that's for sure." She put her hand to his cheek and shook her head. "No, no mind changing," she promised, smiling at him.

Ailsa gave a little smirk and nodded. "From the sound of things, I don't think I could get out of here if I tried," she teased. "You'd break that promise and have me back here in a heartbeat," she grinned, curling into his chest. "Not that I'm complaining."

When she asked he nearly choked only to let out an exasperated sigh. "Good." he muttered, turning his face to kiss her palm. "You'd break my heart if you did." he said, smiling at her.

"You're not going anywhere until..I say so." he said. Screw the witch. He'd do as she'd said and keep Ailsa from doing much of anything for a day but after that he'd use his own discretion as to what she could and could not do. It's not like he was an idiot or anything. "You're damned right I would.." he trailed off. "I'd even brave the sun." he admitted. "Or call Julian and have him bring you back here." he warned. He wrapped his arms around her when she curled into him. "Good. I like no complaints..I've grown used to that."

Ailsa heard the sigh and made a face at him, smiling beneath it. "Hey, cut me some slack. I just got my brain back."

"Yessir," Ailsa teased, giving him a mock salute and letting out a little laugh. "You'd better not brave the sun. I'll hunt you down and beat up your ashes, that's for damn sure," she said seriously. And then probably lock herself in her apartment for the next year, or until she died, whichever came first. Pressed against his chest, Ailsa let out a little laugh. "Oh, I'm sure I'll have a complaint or two," she taunted. "Give me some time to come up with something." There was a beat, and she looked up at Bastian. "Can we go downstairs now? My legs hurt. There. There's your complaint," she chuckled.

He rolled his eyes at the mocking and shook his head. "Which is why I said I'd send Julian after you. He can walk around in the day whereas..I..become instant barbeque and would most likely smell like that crap the with is feeding you." he stated.

He couldn't help but chuckle a little. "I can handle that complaint." he said. Scooping her up in his arms, he made a little sound and smiled at her. "Back to bed with you." he said quietly.

"And you'd laugh while Julian carted me back, kicking and screaming, if only on principle alone," she smiled.

Ailsa smiled. "Good, because I'm just getting started," she teased. She mirrored his happy little noise and wrapped her arms around his neck, settling her head on his shoulder as they made their way downstairs. It was a wonderful thing, being in his arms and knowing that there wasn't anything between them anymore.

Once she was back on the bed, Ailsa opened her arms to Bastian and smiled. "Come kiss me," she begged, realising she hadn't had one of those yet. "I want to be with you, and know that it's just us."

"True. It would highly amuse me." he teased her.

Downstairs, he set her on the bed and climbed under the blankets beside her. He went willingly into her arms, folding his around her and pulling her closer. "It is just us baby." he said, lowering his head to brush his lips across hers lightly. "And kissing is all I'll do." he muttered. "You're still weak and we don't need you over exerting yourself."

Snuggling against him, Ailsa smiled at the little kiss. "You're no fun," she teased, but she knew he was right. If they started going at it, she wouldn't be able to keep herself from participating past what her body was capable of, and that would only lead to more bed-ridden days, and not in the fun way.

Leaning in, Ailsa pressed her lips to Bastian's a little more forcibly, running her hand along the back of his neck for a moment before pulling back and giving him an odd little smile. "I love you," she whispered, tears springing to her eyes, and she blinked rapidly, trying to combat them.

He gave a soft snort at her teasing. "Just wait until you're better. I'll fuck you as often as you want." he taunted her.

He let out a little moan when she kissed him harder and gave himself over to it before she pulled away. The odd smile concerned him a little as did her tears. "I love you too." he muttered, brushing his fingers along her cheek. "Baby..what's wrong?" he asked, shifting a little next to her. "Everything is fine now. Why are you crying?" he asked.

Ailsa cleared her throat a bit, pressing her face into his shoulder for a second before replying, trying to compose herself. He was right. Everything was fine, and now...she was just being stupid. Ailsa blamed how worn out she was. That had to be it.

"I'm just...I'm just so relieved," she got out, shakily. "I'm here with you, and there isn't this little voice in the back of my head trying to figure out a way to get your blood, or make you turn me..." A couple of tears broke the barrier between her lashes and her cheeks and she brushed them away quickly. "I wasn't sure I'd get out of it, Bastian," she admitted in a whisper. "I wasn't sure that, if I did, there'd be anything of me left. I thought I'd break..." she trailed off, hiding her face against him again, letting out a ragged breath. "I was just so scared. Even when we were happy, I was terrified."

He listened to her, looking at her with sadness. "You are here..I'm here." he told her. "It wouldn't have taken much for that thing to convince me though. He'd have been able to make me believe that turning you would have saved you and I'd have stupidly done it." he admitted. "I hated seeing you in pain..getting locked away from me." he said.

He rolled onto his back and pulled her with him, cradling her. "I'd have loved you even if you'd broke." he said softly. "I'd have stayed with you..looked after you." he said. "But it's over now and you just have to get stronger again." he said. "Once you are..then we can put it behind us baby." he muttered. "You weren't the only one that was scared. I was so scared that.." he paused and gnawed on his lower lip. "I was afraid I was going to lose you..that it would kill you if it didn't get what it wanted."

"I'm so glad it didn't try," Ailsa sighed, brushing away another tear. "Then I'd be..." she shuddered. "I don't know what I'd be. I'd never have gotten back out," she told him, just knowing it was true.

Settling against his shoulder, Ailsa let out a little moan at his admission. "I don't deserve how much you love me," she sniffled, pressing a kiss to his neck. "I think it would have, had it been stronger," she muttered. "I don't even know how it got as strong as it did. I was so careful..." she trailed off and shook her head. "It doesn't matter now. It's over. It's over, and now we can be happy," she said, giving him a watery smile and leaning up to press a kiss to his lips.

"It doesn't matter how it did." he said. "Not now anyway. It is over." he agreed. "And it's not coming back." He returned the kiss and smiled into it.

"I missed you..missed this." he said. "I know it wasn't a long time but..it was long enough." he muttered. "And you're right. Happiness is all that matters. Yours." he said, smiling down at her. "I love you baby."

"I missed you too," Ailsa admitted, reaching up to scrub under her nose a bit before tucking the blankets under her chin. "It felt like...even though I was in control, part of me wasn't really here. Just a little bit was gone, and I hated not being able to give all of myself to you," she sighed.

"Your happiness too," she insisted, looking up at him seriously. "I'm not happy if you're not, Bastian. It works both ways." Settling back down, Ailsa let out a sigh and wound her fingers along his chest idly. "Speaking of...lasting happiness...now that it's safe to talk about, how does that all work?" she asked, curling her leg over his and twisting her head a bit to look up at him. "Julian told me how his kind does it, but there are so many differences between you two...what'll happen?"

"I am happy." he said, and when she settled again, he wrapped his arms around her.

"Mmhmm?" he muttered when she began her question. His eyebrow went up a little at the mention of Julian but left it alone. "Well.." he thought a moment. "I'll take from you to the point of..death." he said quietly. "I'll give you more of my blood then you've ever had..and it'll be painful." he said. "It'll feel like..you're being ripped apart." he said, looking at her. "I don't remember mine. I was dying anyway..and in so much pain to begin with it was almost like..a release for me." he said. "But the ones I've turned I just stood back and watched. Each different but similar." he said. "You'll die..and then you'll wake up." he said. "Some it takes a day..some a longer." he said. "Most it's a night. For me I think it was three days but like I said, I was dying..far closer to it than you are." he admitted. "I was weak to begin with." he said. "You'll be hungry when you wake..but I'll be with you the entire time and I'll teach you.." he said.

Ailsa saw the look and laughed. "I abused his contrite mood when he apologized to grill him," she admitted with a devilish little smile.

Listening to him, Ailsa let out a little sigh. Well, there went her happy little vision of being human one minute and a vampire the next, with nothing to get over but the feeling of fangs in her mouth. But, she'd given him her word, and she wasn't going to back out on the promise of some pain. "What happened to the others you turned?" she asked, raising an eyebrow to a rather alarming level. The idea that he had other brides or whatever made her irrationally angry.

Bastian snorted. "I bet he was none to happy about that." he remarked.

He winced when she sighed. He really wished he could make it different for her but there really was no other way. When she got agitated over the others, he sat up and looked down at her. "Gone." he said. "I've only made..maybe 5 or 6." he said. "When I was a little younger." he told her. "And they left me." he said. "They got eternal life. It's what they wanted and then they left after a time. I haven't seen them in years." he said. "Why?" he asked, then his eyes widened a little and he leaned down to cup her face and brush his lips across hers. "I never loved any of them. I never wanted to spend forever with them baby. You never have to worry about that." he muttered.

Adjusting, Ailsa looked up at him from her spot on the pillow, her arms folded over her chest. Even though she was weak and laying down, she still reckoned she looked pretty damn imposing. Or at least, she hoped she did. The kiss did little to sway the glare, but his words did, and Ailsa thawed a bit. "You'd better not have," she grumbled. "I wasn't lying when I told you all that time ago that I don't share well."

"I'm crafty, I don't think Julian realised he was being used," she grinned. "He also said that he doesn't kill that often. I know you don't care, but...do I - will I - have to? Every night? Can't I just...take from more than one person, even it out?"

She may have thought she looked frightening, but in truth she didn't. "You won't have to share me my grace. I'm yours." he said, smiling a little.

"Mm..that you are." he remarked. Thinking a moment he shook his head. "I prefer the kill." he said. "It also means I don't need to feed every night. I can go a few days." he said. "As you've noticed, I also have blood in my fridge. Supplemental." he told her. "I don't know any other way." he said. "When I was younger, I fed every night because I thought I had to. As I got older I realized that..my strength didn't come from feeding nightly. It came with age." he told her. "I suppose you can do what you like." he said. "I just like the thrill of it..the hunt..the seduction, the game and the feeling is quite heady when their hearts slow and I can feel it all slipping away for them." he said.

"Good," Ailsa said with a curt nod and the glimmer of a smile.

She listened to him and nodded. "I guess we'll just see," she shrugged. She didn't like the idea of killing people all the time, but she also knew what it felt like to just have a tiny bit of Bastian's blood. Odds are, it was going to be amplified once she was turned. "There's no real way to prepare for this, is there?" she asked, curling up on her side. "I mean, I can ask questions until I'm bleu in the face, but really...I won't know the answers until it happens."

Rolling onto his back, he stared up at the ceiling. "It does something to you..being turned." he said, rolling his head to look at her. "But for the most part, you're still the same person."

Running a hand up and down her arm lightly, he waited for her to drift off. "Probably not..but I can rest." he said. "Shh..lay back down and close your eyes." he urged. "Get some sleep my love." he muttered. "I'm content the way I am."

Smiling, Ailsa pressed a kiss to his lips and then lay back down on Bastian's shoulder. "I love you baby..." she mumbled, drifting quickly. "I'm so happy to be...home..." And, far to sleepy to correct herself, Ailsa fell asleep, wondering if she even wanted to.
