It wasn't that Tabitha didn't realize how royally she'd screwed up. She did. It was just that she thought it was past time that she got out of things herself, without relying on other people to do so. It didn't occur to her until last week when Emma called that maybe it was that same attitude that started this whole shitstorm in the first place.
And it really was a shitstorm. Sure, she was getting an amazing deal of just ten years of probation for doing all the shit that she'd done, but it did mean that she had to testify against all the big scary guys that had hired her in the first place. So yeah, she was pretty sure that the Russian mob wanted her dead. And really - that was something that she could deal with. The big thing about hiding from people was not being predictable. She could do that.
But the thing was, since she now was trying not to get arrested again, and she'd mostly alienated all of her friends, and she was trying to not be predictable, it kind of meant she was mostly out of cash. And these few weeks on the street? Kind of hell. Winter on the streets was always hell, even without the snow. Now it just especially sucked.
But now, she couldn't keep being unpredictable, and she couldn't just try to handle things herself. Everybody was sick, apparently, and she hadn't even been there. And really - it didn't take a TV to know that people were dying from this thing now. She was sufficiently freaked out.
So, after breaking into her and John and Rogue's old place, taking a shower, and borrowing an outfit (that she washed first, because fuck it all if she was going to get sick too), she made her way to the Institute, determined to show everyone that she wasn't going to leave them alone.
She just hoped that they still wanted her around.
Knocking on the door, she pulled Rogue's coat tigheter around her, hoping that she could do something to help.
