Who: Thor Odinson
NPCs: Mysterious Voice (and Jane Foster used with permission)
When: 2007 (backdated)
Where: Puente Antiguo, New Mexico / Elsewhere
What: Thor hears a voice in his time of need.
Thor was a hero and a warrior. He was unafraid of injury or pain, but mortal as he was now, he had never felt before pain like what he felt when the Destroyer’s metal arm struck a mighty blow against his torso. He had thought for a moment that Loki had had a change of heart, that his anger had somehow diffused, but as he skid to halt on the dust covered road he understood. His brother’s rage could only be sated by the end of his life.
He could hear his heartbeat in his ears, but over it, he could hear the sound of a voice calling his name. Jane’s face appear, and in spite of the pain, he smiled.
“No...it’s not over.” Her eyes were pleading with him. Couldn’t she see what had transpired? Didn’t she understand?
“I mean, you’re safe…” She repeated his words back to her, nodding her head. “It’s over.” His lungs drew in their final rasping breaths, and a veil came over his mind. The warmth of the desert drained away as he closed his eyes and all became darkness.
There was cold around, a cool green mist swirling around his body that gave off a soft and indescribable light. A cold hand touched his face. He winced, stirring from his stupor. The pain he’d felt was gone. “Rest now, thunderer.” He could see nothing but dark lips set in a pale face. He reached up and touched the stranger’s chin. She smiled. “There will be time enough for us to get to know one another...”
There was a clap of thunder, a flash of lightning, and he could hear that strange voice scream in rage. It disappeared as a if a dream as he found himself renewed in strength, staring down the street at the Destroyer. It was time to deal with his brother.
