Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:pyro, rogue

Who: Marie D'Ancanto & St. John Allerdyce
NPCs: --
When: February 16th, Not long after this conversation
Where: X-Mansion, Boathouse
What: Old friends meet up to talk about Rogue's recent life events over a bottle of scotch
Rating: PG-13, cursing.

John came to the boat house with the bottle of scotch gripped in one hand and a couple of tumblers he'd grabbed from the kitchen, half filled with ice. While it would more than likely end up with the two of them drinking straight from the bottle, it was good to have them just in case they at least tried to be polite about this. Having gone to school together before and their style of friendship, that was doubtful, still, it had been a few years since they'd last seen each other. Hell, he'd left not long after graduating, going back to Australia for college and that was really it.

"You would think with all the bloody traveling I do, I wouldn't be as tired as I am," he announced and took a seat. It was more to himself than to anyone else, he wasn't sure if Rogue was there yet. Plopping into a chair, he set the cups down on the nearest available flat surface and then twisted the top off of the bottle of liquor. Getting pissed in the afternoon wasn't illegal, though it wasn't recommended. But since when did he care?

With a yawn he eased into the chair, kicking his feet up onto a tub that had some boat gear in it, he took a quick swig before pouring some over the ice. "Here's to...me! I'm true blue! I'm a piss pot through and through. I'm a Bastard so they say and I'm not going to heaven I went the other way! I'm going down! down! down! down! down!..." And then he proceeded to chug the contents of the glass.

Instead of flying, like she should have to cover the distance, Rogue chose to walk and was only now arriving at the boathouse, catching the tail end of John's drinking song, just in time to witness him knock back the shot. Rogue looked indignant, but only in jest and was grinning soon after that. "Gettin' started without me, are ya?" She questioned by way of greeting, pushing the door open.

She looked a state, truth be told, like a heap of clothes that were all too big for her, to compensate for all the layers she had to wear. It was a little cumbersome, but it was the only way to ensure that she stayed in and other people stayed out, not to mention hiding her ankle monitor.

Leather clad hands reached out from the too long sleeves and pushed back her hood, finally, to reveal her face. "Who are you talkin' to? Or have you finally gone off the deep end like we always said you would?"

"That's what you get for being so slow," John said pointing the tip of the glass farthest from him at her and then questioned, "You getting ready to bomb some place or you feeling sick?" He had been used to seeing the gloves but this much...was a bit excessive. He suspected something was up, and maybe it had to do with what she needed the scotch in her system for. It was good to have at least a pretty drinking buddy though, and maybe next time he'd go out of his way to invite Bobby. But if Rogue hadn't suggested it already maybe she didn't want him there for this...

He shrugged, "No one. Just singing a song because there was no one else around to sing about. I can sing it for you if you'd like, though I don't know how you feel about being called a piss pot or a bastard." A wink and then serving some for himself more before relinquishing the bottle over to her. She might need a few gulps to loosen those lips of hers.

"Drink up," he said, "It's good scotch and I may or may not have another bottle with my things. That will be determined on what you have to say and how drunk you want to be when you tell me."

"Hey, Ah ain't slow. Ah just ain't in a rush neither," she countered. At his comment about her attire, Rogue took a step back and looked down at herself. "Consider it extra an extra precaution," she stated. It was a prelude to what she was about to say, how her powers went nuts and caused her to go haywire.

Rogue tsked and shook her head, grinning all the while. "Nah, don't sing, Ah reckon Ah've been tortured enough this last month," she said taking the bottle and giving it a sniff before pouring herself a glass. "Ah'm impressed, you busted out the good stuff," she said, inspecting the bottle as she did.

"Well, lets just put it this way, Ah might have to get lit." Clearly it wasn't anything good. "Before Ah get t'all that though... Its good to see you." And that was the truth. She saluted him with her glass and took a sip.

"Extra extra precaution or perhaps you are being something of an extra minx. Wear that much clothing, gets guys a wondering why and then wondering what lies underneath," John waggled his eyebrows at her playfully and then shrugged off her saying his singing was some sort of torture, "I have a lovely voice, I think you're just jealous...and possibly tone deaf." A wink followed, because it was hard for John not to be joking around in some manner.

He watched as she served herself, perhaps feeling tinges of worry that she appeared to, again, be avoiding the topic. "Good to see you too, sheila," he said with a smirk appearing on his face, "I'll even add on that I missed ya. I bet that makes you feel all warm and gooey inside, doesn't it?" John rolled his eyes at himself and took another gulp.

"We could talk about other people for a bit. Till you feel like talking about yourself," he offered.

For the second time today, Rogue rolled her eyes at him. "Nobody but you would think that... Ah'm beginnin' to think you have a bit of a crush on me," she teased right back. If there was one thing that could be said about John, he made her feel normal in a way that nobody else could. And he didn't even have to touch her to do it.

Rogue seated herself adjacent to where John sat on the sofa, in a nearby white wicker chair and stretched her legs out onto the coffee table, while nestling her glass close to her chest to ensure its safety.

She perked up a smile when John said he missed her, although didn't particularly feel like smiling at that very moment. "No, nah, we don't have to beat around the bush... Ah know you're curious an' Ah know you wouldn't be payin' attention to anything Ah say anyways, until Ah tell you what's up..."

Taking another sip before setting the glass down on the side table, Rogue reached down and grabbed a fistful of material from her pants and slowly began to expose the leg that bore her ankle monitoring device, until the whole assembly was revealed. "Property of SHIELD, that," she said, looking away so she didn't have to look at Johny while he was looking at her tether.

"So, yeah. There's that."

"Oh, that hurts," John placed a hand over his heart as if he'd just been stabbed, "You would think I'm that shallow, Rogue? Really?" Only perhaps he wasn't really going to pay all that much attention because really, small talk was small talk and reserved for conversation with people that you didn't like in order to pass the time till something better came along.

John was mid-slurp when Rogue revealed the ankle device. The cup was still to his lips but he wasn't drinking, only staring at it. A single eyebrow raised in a question and she told him that it was property of SHIELD. He took the rest of his gulp and then swallowed.

"So you're on SHIELD's shit list now...but you're not locked away, so that means there's a long, dramatic story, that I hope doesn't involve a burly man taking you over some rocks near a beach that waves love to crash over," he half joked but still there, concern. What had she done to get that?

Letting out a breath he said, "Even if there is, I love a good story. So spill it, Rogue. For prosperity's sake and so I know for when I write your memoirs."

Rogue took a breath and then looked over at John to gauge his reaction. Yep. That's just about what she expected. At his questioning, she just shrugged her shoulders. "So, Ah've got these powers, you might know. An' they're wholly and completely unpredictable. That's the long and short of it, but it goes like this:

"Are you familiar with the Avengers? Well, Ah tangled with one of them an' ended up puttin' her in a coma, Ah guess. Except Ah wasn't completely in my right mind then 'cause Ah had some other personalities takin' over at the time. An' Ah guess this girl had it out for Ms. Marvel." Again, Rogue shrugged. She knew it sounded crazy, she just hoped John didn't judge her for it.

"Ah, uh... saved the president? That's how Ah got schizo personality number one. The second was Ms. Marvel. So, those memories and personalities finally dissipate, but Ah noticed Ah still got some of Ms. M's powers - not to that extent, but yeah. Ah fly now.

"Anyways, cut to just a couple months ago...Ah did the same thing with the Avenger known as Thor as Ah did to Ms. M, only something happened this time. It triggered somethin' in my brain and Ah was able to unlock everyone's powers that Ah ever touched. An' Ah lost control and did a bunch of damage to the Brooklyn bridge and ended up hurting a bunch of people..."

Here Rogue took a big sip from her glass. "Well, Ah got popped by SHIELD an' Ah was put in their detention center for about a month until Ah got a lawyer who got me off on a plea bargain but Ah had to admit to a bunch of stuff, even if, um, it wasn't really me...

"Don't hate me, please," she said finally.

"Crikey," he breathed, "what do you take me for, Rogue?" The question came as a response to her plea for him not to hate her. Hate her? How could he hate her? He shook his head, "I can't hate you, sheila, not without you hating me first." It explained the clothing though. The excess of cloth she wore as a barrier had now become something of a fortress.

He reached for the bottle and poured some more scotch into her glass, "You've been through hell and I don't see you parading around with a giant grin on your face with everything that happened. You need a vacation and you definitely need more of this," he said as he topped off her glass and went to do the same to his own.

"You were handed a pile of shit in life," John said as kindly as he could, "You're just trying to deal with it and I think you end up with it worse than anyone else." He moved to sit closer to her. Slowly to gauge her reaction, because if she told him to back off, he would. What he did do was lean forward to take the fabric of her pant leg and draw it back over the ankle monitor. John then looked her and smiled, "The only thing I guess I could hate is that it's making you wear all this extra fluff." A joking wink accompanied with an encouraging smile.

Rogue her hand, cup in tow, swung out to gladly accept the extra booze, agreeing with that point by action alone. She definitely need a lot more. At least to expel the voices - and those were just her own. Her cheeks twitched as if to smile when he said he could never hate her.

Him touching her trousers leg made her feel weird, however. And not exactly in a bad way either. Which was how she knew it was no good. His comments, though, had her rolling her eyes and broke the tension for her to speak again.

"Ah appreciate that," she said and finally took a sip of her drink.

"Its just like everyone's just been actin' like Ah let down our whole race, or somethin'." She was opening up little bit despite the fact that John had scooted up close. She was constantly aware, however, just how close he was and that was a reaction that would never go away. But she made no move just yet to shy away. "Ah never wanted any of that. Ah just wanted to do my own thing.

"That's because their power isn't like yours," John shrugged but in understanding, "Fuck them all if they act that way to you anyway. Especially if they think you wanted it." He shook his head, feeling a little angry on her behalf. Maybe it was because he had the ability to manipulate fire that made him a bit hot headed, or perhaps he just, unfortunately, inherited some of his dad's temper.

He sat back, not moving back to where he was sitting before and then kicking his feet up to rest next to hers, "Don't worry though, sheila. I won't think that way about ya. Unless, of course, you decide you're too cool for me or something. Which we both know, is not true." He gave her a playful nudge of his elbow against hers.

"You going to be okay though?" he questioned, "How long are you going to be stuck wearing that thing? Does this mean that we can't run across to Canada for whatever reason people actually bother with the place?"

"Oh, Ah don't know, about eleven more months. Means Ah can't leave the grounds or nothin'. Ah reckon could be a lot worse... As in in the 'we wouldn't be havin' this conversation' kind of way." Rogue looked at their legs outstretched next to each other, the two sets of boots and the way her feet awkwardly tipped to the side because she was being lazy. She lifted her shoulders up into a shrug and then looked at her friend.

"Yeah, Ah'll be okay, Ah guess. Its just gonna be a long year, Ah reckon. Ah mean, Ah am public enemy number one as far as Scott is concerned. He's been okay, Ah guess. He's thinkin' about givin' me a job. A proper one. Where they pay me in cash. Ah'm even thinkin' about accepting," she said with a smile.

"Thanks for bein' my friend, yeah?" She said with a final sigh, resting her head on his shoulder.

John rolled his eyes, "Scott gave up his sense of humor for responsibility. But at least he isn't being a proper arse monkey about it. Job is good though." If he wasn't writing, he would need one of those too, but with his work in Australia, it wouldn't have been hard for him to get one.

"Don't go getting all soft on me," John said with a laugh, "But yeah, that's what friends are for. I may need a box of tissues now." He made some pretend sniffles but turned his head to look at Rogue who was now leaning on his shoulder. Concern and a bit of remorse twinged at him, making him wish he'd come sooner. He might not have been able to stop her, but he could have been there to try to help.

He let out a chuckle, "I feel like we're going to break out into song. We both know I can't sing. But if we get drunk enough, it might not matter, right?" John repositioned the arm she was leaning on to rest over the back of the couch. Almost around her shoulders but not quite.

"Drink our troubles away," he smirked, "I hope those were all your troubles. Unless there's even more you haven't told me yet."

Rogue slid further in her seat once John draped his arm around the back of the couch, giving the illusion he wasn't touching her. She could play along. And she didn't mind that they were touching. It really was comforting, after all.

"Ah shut up," she said, her tone mirthful for the first time this evening, when he started in about going soft and singing. "No, that's it. That's the whole sad story... Now you know.

And then, lifting her glass, she clinked it against his. "Ah'll drink to that."
