Dun dun dun~
Who: Carol Danvers and Loki Laufeyson
NPCs: Chewbacca the Cat
When: Sunday, February 12, 2012 [backdated to the day of the baseball game]
Where: Carol and Thor's house, upstate New York
What: Loki pays Carol a visit - nothing good can come of this.
Rating: Medium-ish

Stupid baseball game. Stupid Avengers. And stupid X-Men. Who needed them anyways? Certainly not Carol. She was feeling quite Grinch-like today of all days, while the X-Men and the Avengers played each other in a game of friendly baseball. Never mind that Carol loved baseball and had been trying to organize something for their team for ages. But no, she had been explicitly un-invited, which made her feel only minimally like a jackass when she gave Thor her ire as he left their home early in the day to make it to Westchester for the game.

Now, here she was, bored and lonely, snuggling the cat on the couch, not realizing what kind of sinister machinations were about to be set in motion. Obviously, she was oblivious to Loki's tampering with her cat.

"What do you want to eat today cat? Steaks? We should eat steaks. And cheeseburgers. And a whole pizza - a large one. "Lets just get fat, together," she said, giving her pet a squeeze. "Who needs 'em, right? Not us." She said, not believing it for a second and heaved a heavy sigh.

[Loki!]

A few minutes later, an unexpected knock came at the door. When Carol answered it, she found Loki standing there, looking very Midgardian in his leather jacket and tie. He was smiling, holding a bottle of wine in one hand and balancing a large pizza in the other.

"Greetings, Carol," he said, cheerfully. "Is mine brother present? Methought to stop by, unannounced, and I brought foodstuffs!" He looked at the pizza, a little concerned. "Wouldst this be the proper item to bring, according to the custom of Midgard?"

Carol was surprise by unexpected visitor, it wasn't as if they had any close neighbors to knock in on them and their closest friends lived in the city, so she was hesitant to open the door. But then she discovered it was just Loki-he was always popping up at the most random times, wasn't he?-and felt better about opening the door to him. Immediately she looked down at the bottle of wine and forced a smile in greeting.

"Loki..." She started, "Um, no, he's actually not here right now. He's playing baseball," she said hesitantly, unsure whether or not Loki understood what that meant.

"Its okay though" she dismissed, opening the door for him and permitting him entrance into her home. "You can come in. And yeah, pizza is great. What's the occasion?"

"Oh." Loki looked disappointed, although he knew very well that Thor was away and where he was and what was the game of baseball. He learned all these things by spying on Thor and Carol via their cat, whom he had enchanted. Yet, to play the game, to keep Carol unawares, he did what Loki did best, which was to lie. "Base ball, thou sayeth? I knowest not what this is, but I am sorry to have missed mine brother." He entered and looked around, innocently taking in his surroundings with an expression of curiosity. "Thou doest not partake in this activity, base ball? Is this why thou hast remained at home?"

Loki noticed Carol's glance at the wine, and he held up the bottle. "'Tis alright. Your condition I did take into account and selected a wine that surprisingly is without alcohol." Indeed, it was a non-alcoholic brand. "The occasion." Loki grimaced a bit, uncomfortably, then shrugged. "'Tis no big thing for Thor, for he hast not remembered, though methought he would." He carried the pizza box to the nearest flat surface to set it down. "'Tis only mine birthday."

Carol lead Loki into the living room. "No," she said, grumpily. She shrugged. "Its only the great American past time," she informed him. "I play, but I've been bench." She shrugged again invited him to sit while she went to retrieve plates and glasses for the pizza.

"Its your birthday?" She questioned, returning with all of the necessary things and a cork screw.

"That's too bad... I mean, its too bad Thor's not here," she recovered. "I can't believe he didn't remember." At that, Carol Danvers actually rolled her eyes, still feel a bit sore at her lover for choosing the game of baseball over her, or so it seemed. "Well, happy birthday," she said. "

We can at least celebrate, right?"

"'Tis of little importance," Loki said, giving a half-shrug. "We are Aesir. Immortals, eternally reborn and regenerated. Mine day of birth 'tis not as important. E'en so.." Loki's voice trailed off, pretending he was not as upset about it as he actually was. "Thor is but my half-brother," he explained. "The All-Father took me in and raised me as his own, though I knew this not until I was grown. Oft I have felt overlooked by the other Aesir because of this. Long has it been since I was last reunited with Thor, I thought..." Loki shook his head.

"Thank thee, Carol. Thou art kind." He poured the wine for both of them. "But still I know not of this pastime thou calleth baseball. 'Tis a game, yes? What dost thou mean, thou wert benched? Art thou wounded and unable to participate?"

"Yeah, I know something about being treated like a second class citizen." At that, her nose couldn't help but snarl, even if it was nearly indistinguishable. It happened whenever Carol thought about her own father and the abuse she had suffered by him.

That's right, she got it...

"Its nothing," she dismissed. "No one should have to spend their birthday alone," she said perking up a smile and relaxing the tension that had developed in her face. She seated herself on the couch, adjacent to where he was sitting, picking up a wine glass as she did.

"Well... to your birthday, then," she gave him a salute with the glass and then took a sip. It was grape-y, but otherwise alright.

"Eh... Baseball is a game, where you hit a ball with a stick. And it means that I was uninvited because I don't get along with a would-be-member of the other team. Even though I have my reasons not to."

Loki lifted his glass to drink, but stopped short before it came to his lips, pausing to listen to Carol speak, and then replying to her comment about being a second-class citizen. "'T'would seem that there is more in common twixt thou and I, than what meets the naked eye."

Distracted, he opened the cardboard lid of the pizza box and selected a prime slice for Carol, which he put upon a paper plate that he'd conjured out of nowhere. "Methinks I hast seen this sport. Upon the device called a tee-vee. Athletes run in a diamond pattern?" Loki nodded, realizing now what Carol was talking about. He handed Carol her plate and picked out one for himself. As he spoke, he idly picked off the mushrooms from his portion. "This person that thou hast difficulty with, he is your foe?"

He then motioned to the pizza. "The food that I didst purchase, the merchant gave unto us everything. 'Tis acceptable to thee?"

"Yeah, maybe," was the short reply. When it came to her family, her father, her past, the war... These were all topics that were completely off guard. Going to regular AA meetings helped with opening up, a bit, but she still wasn't exactly comfortable discussing these things, especially with someone she hardly knew.

"Yeah, that's pretty much the gist of it. Its a pretty popular past time." she commented with a shrug. It didn't seem like Loki need any more explanation that that.

"She," Carol corrected. "But yeah. You could say that. She attacked me in cold blood, put me in a coma for two months and then went on to do the same to your brother." In her opinion, Rogue was a nasty piece of work. It did not, however, mean that Carol was just going to go flipping nuts at a friendly baseball game and beat the young woman to a pulp. That was just ridiculous!

"Everything is great," she said with a smirk at his Asgardian manner of speaking. "Its perfect."

Loki scowled on Carol's behalf. "If thou dost sayeth the word, Loki shall deal with this witch on thy behalf. 'Twas not so long that he can not recall how she did steal mine brother's conscious and dare to battle with me. I wouldst fain to have a rematch."

He punctuated the end of his sentence with a hearty bite of pizza, which he chewed in righteous anger.

"You did? I mean... she did?" At that Carol was quite surprised, and looked it as she accepted her plate from Loki. "I didn't know that... What happened? But look.. I don't want anything more to do with that..." Carol cleared her throat. "Her. I just want to forget she even exists."

And with that, Carol began to nibble on the pizza.

Loki watched Carol eat, watching her carefully. The real reason for his coming to meet Carol was coming to fruition. One part of a potion ingredient was added to the wine, another portion was sprinkled upon the pizza. Consuming only one or the other, like how Loki had done by just eating the pizza, would not activate the potion. However, as Carol had drank a bit of both, the potion was mixing in her stomach and soon would take effect.

Already he saw her eyes glaze over, making her mind highly susceptible to suggestion and manipulation. Loki sat back in his seat and smiled slyly, waiting for a couple moments longer to make sure Carol had fallen deeper into the trace.

Finally rising, he stepped over to Carol, standing behind her chair and leaning down to whisper directly into her ear. "Hear me, O Mortal. Thy relationship with Thor, who thou dost know also as Erik, no longer exists. Thou knowest him not, save from they dealings with the Avengers. When thou awaketh, thou shalt not recall any of thy tender dealings with him, nor shalt thou remember that I was here."

Standing straight, he took the contaminated pizza away and magically replaced it with another, appearing out of thin air.
