Okay so Vance needed to find the birthday boy! And wish him a happy birthday because that is what you did for peoples birthdays! Well that and you got them a present, and Vance had that part taken care of, so now he needed to find Victor. This place was really nice, a lot nicer then the places that Vance normally hung out it. It was a bit intimidating, and he was working really hard on not banging into anyone here at the party. He didn't want to be responsible for causing anyone to spill their drink. Lois was grateful to have a party to break up the monotony of her senior year of college, and she had dressed like she was ready to party. She really didn't know Victor well, but he had been Vance's old roommate. She'd heard things here and there. Now, Jen, she did know--at least in passing. She had met the girl on a few separate occasions, but they'd never really talked in depth. "Great party," she remarked, sidling up to the blond. The compliment was genuine. Jen in party mode was actually a bit more approachable and friendly than Jen normally was. Maybe it was the liquor, or maybe it was the sole motivation of wanting to have fun and not needing to manipulate anyone out of anything. She wasn't sure, but she really didn't care either. She'd run into Lois a couple of times, mostly when she'd situated herself into Young X-men things, but it hadn't been nearly enough to come up with that much of an opinion of her, positive or negative. "It's sweet of you to throw a party like this for your friend. He seems happy," Lois replied with a grin. Hell, the kid was still in high school. A party like this was probably blowing his mind. "Anyway, I just wanted to say hi since you're friends with all of my friends, and I know we haven't gotten much of a chance to talk..." Judging by the crowd, Jen was the kind of person that was worth knowing, especially if Lois's sister made the album thing happen for her. She still needed to know the right people. Illyana had a drink in one hand and a big smile on her face as she pranced around the party. She'd been sharing some flirtatious dancing with a random guy but now she was taking a break to find the party thrower: Jen. It wasn't too hard to do and Yana was soon facing the other blonde. "Hi!" She gestured to the crowd. "Great party! Vic must be loving it." This was, to her recollection, the first time they'd been face to face since The Limbo Incident but Kitty had helped her gain some perspective and she was determined not to punish herself anymore. There was no reason to. (Well, except the lingering fear over the possibility that it could all happen again someday. Jen was the type of person to hold a grudge. Well, not even a grudge. She was the type to do risk analysis on her relationships and act accordingly. She'd recently been kidnapped into hell by demon beasts of doom. The brimstone smell wouldn't come out of her new Prada. And it was because of her connection to Illyana Rasputin. She didn't need that sort of trouble in her life, and if Yana wasn't Victor's friend she wouldn't have been invited tonight. Still the girl had caught up to her, and Jen figured she could chat idly for a couple of seconds before running off to "play hostess." Whatever that consisted of at a party like this. "I hope so. Yana laughed and nodded. "That's always been the Russian philosophy." And all the best things were, of course, Russian. Case in point: her. With her free hand, Illyana straightened the edge of her dress. "So... it's been a while, huh?" Oh, hey, there was the elephant in the room. Even if she was getting to the forgiving herself/more okay with it place, Yana still decided to dodge it with a hasty subject change. "I like your outfit. Very rock 'n' roll schoolgirl." As the night wore on and people relaxed things had gotten intensely entertaining and fun. It wasn't like the parties Emma had always primed her for, this was young adults having a blast together. As she looked around the large room though she saw Vance and the fact that he'd wallflowered himself. Well, that was simply unacceptable. So she walked over to him with a small smile on her face. She stopped close to him and whispered, "Come dance with me." in his ear and grabbed his hand before attempting to lead him off of the wall. Self-imposed exile was simply no fun. Vance was having fun! Really! He just had felt the need to take a break for a bit and ... okay so he had totally wallflowered himself up against the wall. He was typically pretty outgoing, but sometimes he just got shy. "Ummm ... I don't really know this song." Vance hedged, but kept a hold of Jen's hand. Victor wasn't used to being the center of attention, and he also wasn't expecting for someone to do something so nice for him (let alone Jen who, while wonderful, usually acted in self-interest). He had been really confused about where they were going, and at one point, she had blindfolded him which had meant he was extra surprised to find himself in a gorgeous penthouse with a sizable group ready to celebrate his birthday. He only knew a few people there, but the birthday wishes came readily from everyone there. Being green made it easy for people to figure out he was the birthday boy. He kicked back the rest of his drink, making his way back to the punchbowl. Since Jen was his dear friend there was no shortage of eligible young men there, which he appreciated, but he needed a little bit of liquid courage before he really became the life of the party. Laura had hold up in a corner alone. She hadn't taken off her jacket when she came in and she felt out of place among so many people. It was loud and the mixture of smells wasn't exactly friendly. She was only familiar with a few people, and that was mostly through observation. She thought of going to stay with Victor, but he seemed to be enjoying himself and had plenty of people keeping him company. She wasn't exactly lonely leaning against the wall. It gave her enough time to observe how people were supposed to act at parties, not that she was planning to run out there and emulate them any time soon. Her hair was pulled back away from her face, which made it hard for her to hide behind it. It had been pinned with a clip on the back of her head. It fell over her shoulder which was covered in a black leather jacket. It was still zipped up hiding the top of her beige and black dress. At least, her shoes were functional. There was a drink in her hand that someone had given her earlier when they'd attempted to chat her up. It was an alcoholic beverage, so she had refrained from drinking more than the sip he'd encouraged her to take when he'd handed it to her. The taste wasn't pleasant like tacos. The guy decided to leave when he realized she wasn't much of a talker. (Reply to this) (Thread)

Initially, Shinobi hadn't planned accepting Jen's invite to this little party thing but then he'd given it due consideration. She had attended the Massachusetts Academy as well as the Xavier Institute, she knew many more mutants than he. And that could be quite useful information to have sometime in the future. (Besides, if the party was really and truly dull, he could always go out clubbing after. The New York City nightlife wasn't going anywhere.) Dressed in a dress shirt and dark jeans, Shinobi had scoped the party some. He'd excused himself to the bathroom for a bit to enhance his mood (with recreational drugs not sex-- not yet) and returned to find the party sufficiently amusing. He fixed himself a drink and began scanning the guests for someone to entertain him. Shinobi found his target in the form of a pretty girl-- a willowy brunette with a cute nose and nice curves-- who for reasons unknown had a leather jacket zipped up over what would otherwise be considered a relatively typical party outfit. "Let me guess," he said by way of greeting, "you're trying to bring back the biker babe look." He nodded to her feet. "The boots are a nice touch." Probability would have it, in a room with this many people, that someone would walk over and speak with her after the initial person had tried to strike up a conversation. Laura had prepared herself for such a thing as best she could, which was really not at all. So when the man walked over to her and began to talk, she turned her attention to him. She took in his features and his mannerisms and his tone. "Thank you," she said to what she was assuming the comment about her boots was a compliment. It was the polite thing to do. She thought of taking another sip of her drink as a filler gesture, but simply held onto it instead. "The room is warm," which now that she thought about it, made the jacket unneeded, but she felt more comfortable with it on. She considered going back to the place people were handing their coats off. She was the only person present wearing something bigger than a bolero. "Are you warm?" (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

(He hadn't laid it on too thick to start, so he supposed she could just be dense.) "I think tonight I'm feeling cool." Shinobi paused to sip on his drink. The hard thing about being the birthday boy was that people were always offering you drinks (and some other things) left and right. Victor's brain was buzzing from the drinks, and he felt warm all over. Jokes came more easily, and his conversations were free and unguarded. The cautious good boy from school was totally gone, replaced with the party boy that Jen had taken under her wing at Xavier's. It was his birthday party, so he was inclined to do whatever he wanted. And he was of the opinion that whatever he wanted just had to include the exotic looking guy that he had seen around the party all night. He kicked back a shot, humming a song to himself as he sidled up to Shinobi. "Hey there. I hope you're having fun..." (Reply to this) (Thread)

Shinobi had, of course, noticed the green boy present at the party. (He was rather hard to miss.) Jennifer had informed him he was the birthday boy-- and only sixteen to boot. So precious, that. Inclining his head, Shinobi sipped his drip. "Of course." Or, at the very least, he wasn't bored enough to leave-- yet. And this boy was obviously a mutant and, therefore, of interest to him. "And are you? Enjoying yourself, that is. I was told this was your party." He offered his hand. "I'm Shinobi-- a friend of Jen's." Victor had figured this guy knew Jen in some way, since anyone he didn't know had been pulled out of his friend's contact list, but it was nice to have a name to put with the gorgeous face. "Hey Shinobi. I'm Victor." He didn't bother with shaking hands, just assumed a casual conversational stance that said he wasn't planning on going anywhere for awhile. "It's been a good time so far," he replied. "I've been meeting some interesting people." Like you. As he kept looking at those intense eyes, Victor was smitten. Maybe it was the atmosphere. Maybe it was the drinking. Either way, he wasn't feeling very shy tonight. "Okay, so can I just say that you are gorgeous? Like absolutely, god-like gorgeous." Vance was feeling out of sorts. He had decided that he wanted to go back to the Brownstone, so he was just going to grab his coat and then leave. Kissing Jen was something he had really wanted, but just not like it had been tonight. So Vance was just skirting the edges of the party, heading for the closet where he thought he had hung his coat. Illyana had been drinking-- a lot. It was kind of like she was trying to prove her whole Russian blood was made of vodka theory in one night. And, over the course of killing half a bottle of Smirnoff, she'd gone from being sad and upset over the Jen thing to being pretty well angry. Who did she think she was to not forgive her? What kind of friend did that?! Then she saw Vance. Illyana had never spent too much time with him-- he was cute but a nerd-- but he didn't seem to be holding a grudge over all the Limbo stuff, so that endeared him to her. Plus, she seemed to remember Jen flirting with him on more than one occasion and that made him interesting to her. Vance didn't look too happy, though. Illyana eyed him up and down for a moment as she considered the ethics of what she was thinking. Her concerns died quickly, though, thanks to a mixture of drunkenness and questionable morals. "You look like you're having as much fun as I am," she said by way of greeting. Her tone was friendly but there was a hint of coyness in the way she peered up at him through her lashes. 	"Yes Illyana, rough night and yes I know I'm a dork." Most of their conversations on the journal seemed to have that fact mentioned, so Vance decided to just lay it out there right from the start.
