Who: Harry and Felicia, Open to Spider-Man
NPCs: ---
When: 2/14 (right after this)
Where: Gemma, LES, NYC
What: Harry and Felicia celebrate Valentine's Day; Spider-Man crashes.
Rating: PG-13

Felicia frowned, sipping a glass of wine and flipping through her smartphone. She was starting to look like a girl who had been stood up, which just wouldn't do. Harry was late, and she was starting to get irritated. The night was supposed to be perfect. She had worn a very flattering and holiday colored outfit. She had even chosen the restaurant for its warm, welcoming, lovely feel--very different from the hip and ultra modern places they usually cavorted in. Everything should have been perfect...

...except she was still waiting on her boyfriend.

She took a gulp from her wine glass and grimaced. To make matters worse, there was some trouble with the Green Goblin that was blowing up her local social media circles. (If New Yorkers could have a media sensation out of an escaped peacock, they could certainly make quite a commotion about Spider-Man and the Green Goblin having it out on a bridge.) Nobody was saying much in terms of details, but it had the already agitated Felicia on edge. She felt bad for Peter, unable to get a single day to himself where he could just enjoy his girlfriend's company in peace.

Peter could certainly pack a punch. Harry was certain his ribs were bruised after that fight. But he'd come out victorious and Peter would live with the knowledge that he had lost someone he loved dearly. A small part of Harry felt bad. Carlie had been and innocent and quite frankly.. a delight. But the only other choice in Harry's life were two women he loved: May and Felicia.

Felicia. Geez. She was going to be pissed. The town car drove as fast as he could and while Harry waited he fashioned his excuse. It had to be flawless because.. well.. It was Valentines Day. This type of situation could blow up in his face badly. His car came to a stop outside of the restaurant and Harry was already out the door. He shut it behind him and walked as quickly to the doors.

The hostess inside perked up at the sight of him. "Hello Mr. Osborn. Mrs. Hardy is currently waiting for you at--"

"How upset is she?" Harry asked as he shrugged off his coat and gave it to the coat check girl. Harry picked up the bouquet of roses he purchased and grabbed a small black felt box from his pocket.

"She does not appear to be in the best of moods sir but I can't really say." Harry thanked the girl as he walked by. He approached Felicia from behind, hoping to surprise her with the gifts. He stooped low behind her and held the roses out to the side of her peripheral.

"Can you forgive me?" Harry asked and moved into view, an apologetic smile on his face.

Felicia scowled, practically ripping the roses out of his hand. "Is that going to be your lead in here, Harry?" She wasn't just pissed. She was hurt. The only people who made Felicia Hardy wait in this world were the people who saw her as beneath them. Maybe it was shallow and petty, but she was sensitive to that sort of thing. If he had given her some indication that he was running behind, she would have been alright. She tucked her arms around the roses, steadfastly refusing to make eye contact.

"You can go ahead and start on whatever excuse you have planned," she replied, clearly still hellbent on sulking. Was this what a relationship with Harry meant? Someone who disappeared at all the important times like his father had always done? Her phone buzzed with an update from one of her feeds, and she took a moment from her boyfriend.

Police officer dead after Goblin attack. Her stomach sank. Neither she nor Peter seemed to be having winning nights. She set her phone aside, and finally set her eyes on Harry. Her face showed her displeasure.

"I know, I know." Harry sighed at her words and he seemed to crumble in front of her. He sank down onto the floor beside her, his arm on the table beside her. "I've been trying so hard to be like my father that I'm starting to inherit the bad traits as well." He rubbed his forehead, clearly wilting under her murderous gaze.

"The last thing I want to do is make excuses right now." He looked at her and it was like staring into a sun of pure anger. "Tonight was suppose to be perfect but once again I messed things up." His fingers tapped on the table cloth and he reached into his suit pocket. "I would have told you why I was running late but it would have ruined the surprise." He set a rectangular box down on the table in front of her. "I was late because the engraver was running behind."

Inside she would find a silver bracelet with diamonds adorning the intricate metal work. A flat plate would rest along her wrist where he had the words, "To my love, Felicia Hardy-Osborn", written in a flowing script. It was to be the lead in for his next statement.

He'd already dropped to one knee and the ring box was in his other pocket. He looked up at her, waiting for her to open the box.

Felicia's temper cooled off a bit at the presentation of the gift (and also because Harry seemed so pathetically apologetic about everything). Still, she kept her tough demeanor on as she set the roses aside. He would never learn anything if she forgave him straight away at the first apology. "Well, let's just see what was worth all this trouble..."

She opened up the box, her fingers lifting at the corners at the sight of all those diamonds. He knew the way into her heart. "It's beautiful, Harry." She twisted the band to see the inscription. "Oh, this is just..." It was clear as day on her face when she realized exactly what was written on the bracelet and what it meant. She turned wide blue eyes to Harry. He was still next to her, down on the ground on one knew.

She could feel her heart thudding in her chest. "Harry..."

"Felicia." Harry began, his voice soft and gentle. This was for her and no one else. He took her hand in his. "These last few months with you have been the best time in my whole life." Harry's free hand slipped into his coat pocket. He could feel the material of the ring box as he turned it over in his fingers.

"You were what made me want to change. To be a better man. To give up that life I use to have. The life that pulled me down. You were my inspiration and the love of my life. I can never thank you for that. I'd give it all up, quit all of my high flying adventures as OsCorp's CEO just so I can spend the rest of my life making you happy. And that's what I'm asking of you now." Harry smiled and pulled the ring box from his pocket. He turned the box to her and opened it up, exposing the ring and the carefully set diamonds to her.

"Will you be my wife and let me spend the rest of our life together making you happy?"

Felicia stared in disbelief at what was happening right before her eyes. It had only been a handful of years since her father had gone to jail and she had had the rug pulled out from under her, but it felt like she had been fighting and scrapping for decades to bring some sense of balance to her life. She had struggled so hard for so long and here was Harry, down on one knee, promising an end to all that.

She could feel tears starting in her eyes, and she reached out to clasp his hand. "You...I..." She hiccuped, tears trickling down the side of her face. "Yes," she was running the risk of blubbering like an idiot. "Yes, yes."

In all his life, Harry had done some adventurous things. But out of everything he'd accomplished in his life, none of them made his heart stop quite like this. He'd always heard that the longest moment of your life was waiting for this response. Harry had to disagree. It all happened in the blink of an eye and yet, even after she'd given her answer his heart wouldn't start. It wasn't until the realization that he was now engage did it hit him.

A grin spread across his face almost instantly and he fumbled with the ring box. The ring slipped from it's hold and he took her finger and slid the ring on it. "I don't.. I don't know what to say." He laughed and moved closer, his lips pressing upon hers. "I figured out everything to say but now I don't..." He laughed once more and pressed another kiss on her lips. He was vaguely aware of clapping around them.

Felicia laughed too, equally at a loss for words. She returned his kisses tenderly, eventually brushing the tears from her eyes. She made him get up to his feet--how long had she kept him crouched down on that floor?--at which point she planted a more passionate kiss right on him that bolstered the applause for a moment before everyone returned to their own meals.

"Wow...wow," she muttered, smoothing out her skirt as she sat down and pulling out a compact to check her makeup. She downed the rest of her wine in one big gulp. She took a moment to stare at the ring in disbelief. If the society girls could see her now! "You really know how to pull off a surprise, Harry. I was totally in the dark."

The restaurant was faced with several sets of mullioned windows. Spider-man came crashing through them into the dimly lit interior of the restaurant, shouting Harry's name.

He was breathing hard, his chest aching with suppressed rage that threatened to come pouring out of his mouth like bile at any second as he looked around for the man he was looking for. It wasn't hard - he was standing up in the middle of the restaurant.

With a snarl, Spider-man lunged toward Harry, tackling him into the table behind him. "Murderer!" he shouted, barely registering Felicia as he flew past her.

"Wow.." Harry breathed back, his head nearly swimming from the moment. Or perhaps it had been the experience earlier that evening. He smoothed his hair back away from his face and looked around the restaurant. The papers had always said he knew how to cause a scene. It seemed he still had that talent.

"What can I say," Harry began, turning his attention back to Felicia, "I'm full of surprises." The young Osborn pulled Felicia close for another kiss when a loud crash came from the front of the restaurant. Instinctively he turned his body, Felicia shielded from the explosion of glass. Numerous little cuts dotted the side of his face from flying shrapnel.

Turning toward the source of the explosion he saw a red and blue blur. It didn't dawn on him until Peter slammed into him that this was public retaliation. Well then.. if Peter wanted to make Harry the victim..

Women screamed as Harry slammed into the table behind him, glassware shattering under their bodies. Harry began to struggle weakly against his attack, feigning the strength of a normal human. "Get-get off me!"

Felicia turned her head at the sound of glass breaking, which proved she had no sense of self-preservation anymore. Luckily, Harry quickly moved between her and harm's way. Everything around her was so chaotic, and she hoped against hope that the tingle of her bad luck powers would go away soon. She didn't want to be adding to any of the dramatics. Just as soon as Harry had moved in front of her, he was ripped away. Her mind was so overloaded by the sudden barrage of surprises that it took her a moment to realize that Peter was the one on top of him.

Her mouth moved to form his name, but she caught herself just in time. "Spider-man!" What was he doing here? What was he accusing Harry of? She remembered the message she'd gotten on her phone. It seemed he was still convinced that Harry was the Green Goblin, and now, he really looked like nothing would shake that opinion at the moment. Still, she could see what the scene looked like, how it was playing out to onlookers. She had to do something. "Stop this!"

She put her hand on his shoulder and tugged back on him. "Stop it! Stop for a second, please." She just wanted to talk to him, make him think about what he was doing.

Harry was struggling under him, but Peter was too blinded by his anger to understand what the game he was playing. "Fight!" he shouted, raising his fist. "You wanted to fight me, fight, damn you!"

Something was pulling on his shoulder, and Peter tried to shrug it off when the sound of Felicia's voice froze him and he turned to see her there, her hands on him, tugging. The expression on her face didn't drain the fury he was feeling, but it did bring all of his misery flooding to the surface as the image of Carlie's body rose in his mind. He lurched toward Felicia, nauseated.

"He killed her," Peter groaned, hatred and pain seething in every word. "Carlie... he threw her...."

It took all the self control he possessed to not fight back. The desire to snap and let the goblin free was overwhelming. But that would be too easy and it would give Pete what he wanted. No no no. That wouldn't do. So Harry played the victim and every movement or attack Peter sent his way was played up. Harry sold the beating as realistically as he could.

Harry continued to struggle even as Spider-Man raised his fist. Harry tried to shield himself but then the spider stopped. Felicia, sweet, beautiful Felicia had intervened. Osborn struggled to move from his attacker. His movements were careful and Harry seemed to be in pain. "I didn't.. I didn't kill anyone." Blood was oozing from the cuts along his cheek.

"Get off of me and leave me..us.. alone." Harry had to bite his tongue to keep from shouting.

As Peter lurched forward, Felicia put her arms up to hold him steady. His words made her feel sick. The cop had been Carlie. Carlie. She hadn't gotten much of a chance to get to know the girl, but Peter loved her. Today, he had watched her die. "There's been a misunderstanding," she firmly stated, more for Harry's benefit than Spider-man's.

"Come here...let's just step away, okay?" She coaxed him away from Harry, leaning in to murmur privately to Peter. "I can't imagine what you're going through, but you have to stop and think about where you are. This doesn't look good, and I don't want you to get into a mess over this. This isn't the place, and this isn't...it isn't you." She looked around at the crowd. "He'll leave. He's going to leave..." She rubbed a hand over his back. She wanted to hold him, to help him through this, but she had her own secret identity to think of. And there was Harry, bleeding on the floor.

A misunderstanding. Peter felt like he was going to throw up. "You weren't there," he rasped at her, suddenly hating her as much as he hated Harry. "I saw him do it, I know it was..." the rest of her words got through and he closed his eyes in confusion.

Looking around, he saw the window again, the patrons, Harry on the floor, beaten and bloody, and acting like he was scared out of his mind. "Look at his eyes," Peter mumbled, not to anyone in particular, and probably only loud enough that Felicia and Harry himself could hear. "He's not afraid of me, he laughing." He would have charged at him again if Felicia wasn't holding onto him.

Curling up around the knot of pain in his stomach, Peter tried to think clearly. His head was swimming with anger and despair, and he was going to do something terrible - something unforgivable - if he didn't start breathing again and just think. And since Felicia was right, he needed to leave. But not without her.

"You can't stay here with him," he said quietly, insistently. "It's not safe. He's not safe. Please, Felicia... please trust me." He couldn't be responsible for her death tonight, too.

And then he saw the ring on her finger and his stomach dropped. "That son of a bitch," he growled, pulling away from her, violently.

Felicia snapped back instinctively as he pulled away from her. Her chest felt tight. Her heart was aching for Peter in this moment. She didn't know if Harry was guilty or not, but she did know that she trusted in Spider-Man. "Just wait..." she murmured, her mouth suddenly dry. She crouched down by Harry, leaning in close to speak just to him. "Whatever happens next, I need you to trust me. I'll get this sorted out."

She pressed a kiss to his forehead before turning back Spider-Man. "You'll leave if I leave...that's it?" She took a step towards him, a little afraid that he might lash out again. "So I'll leave." She knew Harry might see this as a betrayal, but once she got everything sorted out and helped Peter with his grief, there would be time enough to explain it to him...right?

The gathered crowd had circled around then. Somewhere in the back someone was calling the authorities. The atmosphere was tense and absolutely perfect. The incident was unexpected but worked in Harry's favor so well that a sane man would believe Spider-Man was a maniac. And given the past actions of a zealot like Jameson, there was money to be made from his story.

As spider-man began to rant to Felicia, the crowd moved in to help, him up. And then Felicia was there, telling him to trust her. What was this? Felicia leaving him for Peter? The heart in his chest nearly stopped as she walked away. How dare she! His expression was a mixture of pain and what could be perceived as righteous anger. Those around him murmured about how brave she was to go with such a crazed man. All the while Harry stood there in stunned silence.

Peter clearly wanted more pain. This wasn't over. Not by a long shot.

Peter's emotions were all over the place as Felicia went back and forth between him and Harry. He was simultaneously furious with her and terrified, desperate to get her away from Harry before he hurt her, too.

She agreed to come with him, and a vicious stab of satisfaction hit him to see Felicia stand and walk away from her boy- no, fiance, and come to his side, but there wasn't time to think about that. Harry wouldn't let him get away with it for long, so they had to get far away, and fast.

Grabbing Felicia's hand, he pulled her out of the restaurant where he could get a clear shot at the taller buildings. Shooting a web, Spider-man picked her up and bounced his way up until he could swing out across town, far away from the man who only hours ago had murdered the woman he loved.

"He's going to get away with it," Peter said flatly. He wasn't talking to Felicia. He wasn't talking to anyone. Right then, it was just a presentiment.
