Having been assured that things were "casual" so far as breakfast went, Freyr had certainly gone to help himself to a plateful of food while the others were still chatting. After he was loaded up with some fruits and meat (donnae wanna fill up on bread!), he made a second pass, then mosied back to his place (the chair he'd chosen) at the long table and glanced around at his company as he began to dive into eating.
So a line had formed... Mateo had lowkey been waiting behind Freyr to make his plate, and he had to admit, the king had decent taste in morning food. However, the king had missed one key aspect of the Midgardian section - waffles. He was a creature of both realms, after all, and the telepath was not about to forgo delicious maple-drenched goodness on a morning as stressful as the upcoming on could be. There had been made a clear 'kids' section, naturally, which the prince found amusing, so he went to join the younger crowd with a quick yank to his chair. Most of them were still standing. He shrugged to himself and dug in, but not before offering a nod and a raised glass to Freyr, who was also awesomely dining. Wise king.
"If we don't get plates soon, I fear they'll be sparsely covered," Astrid told her fellow prince(ess)s, who included Torben, Rayd, Rhia and Fjolnir. "As long as we beat my dad and Logan, we should be okay," she jested.
Eva stood close to Thor for a last-minute cajole: "You're my rock," she told him, and gave his arm a tight hug. "We should do this more often with less dire circumstances..." Their family meals usually included Nate and Brayden, of course, but having the Njordsons there brought the queen a strong sense of solidarity and camaraderie. "Get something to eat. We're going to need our strength..." she urged, then gave a sigh. Her arms felt too light, too cold. So... instead of smothering her children who were chatting with one another and looking quite rosy-cheeked, she went to Nate for a hug and pressed her face against his chest for a moment. He didn't like breakfast gatherings (or any gatherings) very much anyway. "Thank you for contacting Emma for me. She takes too much pleasure in hearing I need help in any way..."
"I've experienced such strange magics," Loki said to Baldr where they'd been waiting for the first king or queen to start the meal proper, "but this..." he gestured to their nephews and niece, "is the strangest. I reel." He took a quick sip of his orange juice and alcohol (thanks, Midgard). "Are you ready to speak on the topic?" Publicly, that was.
