Nathaniel noticed something was amiss the moment his muscles sensed Eva pull away, and not because of his over-advertised dance moves. She'd become weak, and Nate did his best to bolster his queen upright. They stood closer for a second, while Caltrop's impatiently waited the answer to a question he'd only asked with his eyes.
Once again steady on her feet, Nate realized why she'd asked for his cape and quickly retrieved the left-behind item of clothing. "Oh," my. After a series of bumbly, semi-awkward noises, Eva was covered by his green shawl and making promises about cake. A chuckle escaped the wizard's tense frame, and he rested the side of his head on the top of Zap's for a moment. "I knew you would," Nathaniel responded to her observation over his wardrobe choices.
"I guess you've earned cake," Nate joked, though before they could make their rounds at the desert table Nate's hands found Eva's above her own chest. The adviser looked over his shoulder to confirm nobody had noticed anything, because there wasn't anything to see. "Can't let Qiana see this," he said and hoped by speaking her name aloud he hadn't inadvertently summoned the stabby Latina. He snatched his cape, flipped it out and open, and draped the fabric over Eva's shoulders. Luckily the garment was large enough to cover Zap almost completely. "You just got a little cold," Nate informed her with a wink and on cue a few errant snow flakes fell from the enchanted ceiling. A few became more and more until the yule dance was suddenly on the verge of becoming a winter wonderland. "You'll fit right in," he fought a shiver, because Nate's blood ran cold...
"Speaking of magic," he hadn't, but he'd just used some. "I haven't felt our connection tonight." He gestured with a flare of his ring hand, before the limb quickly fucked off. "But I know we're both wearing our rings..." he added, playfully suspicious.
