The 88th Day
Good morning inmates. It is the 88th day of the third generation and newly processed criminals will be arriving over the course of the day.

A light snowfall will occur at mid-afternoon, and though temperatures will remain relatively unchanged for now, warmer and more weather appropriate clothing is recommended.

...This will be the last warning for certain parties to note that facility property is not to be destroyed, and that facility rules are not to be broken. You know who you are.

I would like to assume command of the Defense Force, until Gino Weinberg's return.

May I have authorization to see the psychological profiles he was receiving, for new members?

As you are trustworthy in your intentions, I will authorize this, as well as the issuing of weapons to Force members.

... In the past, a sincere promise of good behavior would have sufficed. However, this system feels that this policy is ineffective in deterring undesirable behavior, and it will no longer be be observed.

The only exceptions will be if an inmate can convince me that it is in their best interests and safety.

Can I contest my list of crimes, then? I'm pretty sure you got the wrong guy, no offense. Even computers make mistakes, right?

There is no mistake. Everything you have been charged with are crimes that you already have, or would have, committed in your life.

I have an enemy here, Rolo vi Britannia. Surviving two full days vulnerable to him will probably prove beyond my ability in this situation.

I'll do whatever work you want me to, but I don't feel like dying so easily.

Inmate Rolo vi Britannia has yet to exhibit disorderly or threatening conduct in this facility. However, his past actions cannot be denied.

As this is a legitimate concern, a remote unit will remove your restraint this evening.

[And, after FINALLY finding the kiosk:]

Um - excuse me, Acumen? I really don't mind doing chores, and I promise I'll be good, so...um...could you please remove the restraint sometime soon?

[He's trying so hard not to sound whiny about it. One day of chores? Pff. This is nothing for an unofficial house elf someone like him. ... but the thing around his ankle, that's new and kind of annoying.]

Unfortunately, a promise of good behavior will no longer be sufficient; the only exceptions will be if an inmate can convince this system that it is necessary for their well-being.

It is possible; at least a day of intensive surgery would be required, and several days of recovery at the hospital before it would be usable once again.

It would require cutting open your tail and attaching new skin, tissue and cartilage-like material to restore it to its original form.

You would be asleep for all of this.

Tear Grants has a sickness caused by the environment in her world. As you're aware, this state has been responsible for an energy drain that affected dozens of people here, and even accidentally killed a man.

It's dangerous, if left untreated. I've been told by Sgt. Grants and Col. Curtiss that there isn't any treatment in her world. She's determined that the only thing she can do is seal off her powers, thereby negating her ability to assist the defense force as a healer, and wait until it kills her.

But I believe it is a mistake to underestimate the potential for your intervention, and she gave me the authority to look into it on her behalf. [like, a million years ago, but he was annoyed with her then and he's over it now] Is there a way you know of to address her condition?

There is a method of intensive purification that could be applied, if she agrees. It would require many weeks of treatment and introducing an element to attempt to break down the miasma in her body.

[so, long and difficult? she'll probably wallow in it happily like that idiot Suzaku] Is it dangerous or painful? And what are the odds of success?

I'll forward her to you for more details, of course, but I'd like to know the basics.

There would be some pain, and she would be more prone to periods of exhaustion and bleeding or bruising easily. However, these would be the extent of adverse effects.

There is a 74.642% chance that within several weeks to a month of treatment her condition will be cleared up, or at least under control.

Thank you. I'll be sure to let her know she has the option.
