[Action]
[Wolfram is kind of glad the useless bastard ex-fiancé is finally awake since it means he gets the chance to sneak out of the hospital. Saki had mentioned that for halloween people do pumpkin carvings as decoration and he has been wanting to do that.

Making lamps out of fruit sounds like an odd thing to do, but hey, if it means he gets the chance to dabble on a different form of art and have a distraction, then he's willing to make plenty of lanterns.

After fetching a big, juicy pumpkin from the convenience store, he heads to Sector 0's kitchen. Admittedly, he has no idea of how to do this, but if all it takes is a pumpkin and a knife, it can't be that difficult. Once he reaches his destination he eagerly digs a knife on the fleshy pumpkin, carving out bits here and there.

Feel free to find him in the kitchen, working on his beautiful horrendous creation.~]

[ Jeanne was actually here for the same reason -- no sense in messing up the counters in the kitchen at home, after all. She has two smaller pumpkins under her arms which she sets down before giving a small wave to the other occupant. ]

Hi there! This is a fun holiday, isn't it?

Good evening.

I find it odd, to be honest. [Amusing but odd. Green eyes instantly notice the pumpkins she is holding.] Are you here to make Halloween lanterns?

It's a bit odd, but that's kind of the point. [ She smiles. ] Yep! It's been a while since I've done it, and I've got no idea what I'll even carve...

[ Looking over at his, stepping closer ] What have you got there?

[Saki said one could carve whatever you want, so] I don't know much about Halloween, but why don't you try carving an image of something you like?

[A not so faint blush colors his face.] ... I'm doing a portrait of my brother. He is at the hospital so I thought I'd make him a lantern for when he wakes up.

Oh, do they not have something like that where you're from? [ It was easier, now, to assume he was from some other world, rather than maybe another culture on Earth where there wasn't anything like Halloween. ] I guess I could, but I doubt Saya would want a sundae carved into the pumpkin. [ Said with a laugh, which peters out quickly. ]

Oh! [ She covers her mouth, looking a little stricken, and thoroughly distracted from the pumpkin. ] I hope he's alright...

I'm afraid not. From what I have seen, our cultural events differ vastly from those of Earth. [He stops his doing to give the stranger a confused stare when she laughs.] Why not carve a sundae? [Is it wrong to do depictions of food into food?]

[He cuts out yet another piece of flesh off the pumpkin before resuming their conversation.] It is all right. [Because of Yuuri, he knows that now there are several doctors and healers looking forward to help Conrad.] ... He will be all right.

We have similar holidays on Glorie and Liberte... but it's kind of weird, since a lot of them have to do with dated Earth traditions that really don't apply anymore. Cultural differences and all.

[ She ponders his question. ] I guess... there's no reason why not. I was just thinking some kind of face, like the others that are already around.

[ Jeanne tries to stay optimistic. It isn't right to pry into someone's family business when she's only just met him. ] That's good. And I'm sure he'll really appreciate your efforts when he wakes up. [ Smiling. She really means that! ]

"Dated Earth traditions?" you say, meaning you come from some sort of future Earth?

Then why don't you do a regular face? It's not that hard, but if you have trouble with it I'll let you copy mine. [totally serious there]

[is that a smile on his face? yes it is, however it is a discreet one.] He will. My family members have always been supportive of my art. [or at least the only ones that don't complain about it out loud.]

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

It's okay. <3

That's right. [ Nodding, she goes about fetching herself a large rag to put under the pumpkin on the counter, and a nice pointy knife. ] Where I'm from, Earth is uninhabitable, and mankind now lives on colony planets. I was born on Liberte, but I lived and served on Glorie.

[ She smiles at him. ] That's a good idea. Maybe one scary and another silly? [ And Saya can pick which one she liked best. ] Oh, you're an artist? [ Brightly. ] Do you sculpt, or paint?

Colony planets? Interesting. So people of your world can travel to other planets? [how's is that even possible?]

Sounds good! Maybe I should have brought more pumpkins too. How many lanterns are supposed to make?

I like to paint, though it is nothing but a hobby.

[ Jeanne nods. ] That's right. We kind of had to, so every packed up onto these large spaceships and warped off to the nearest suitable planets.

They weren't really all that comfortable to start with, according to history books, but we terraformed them -- that is, added things to the earth and air over many years -- to make it more like how Earth was. [ Wistfully. ] They're beautiful planets. I miss it from time to time.

Um, I don't think there's any specific count. Just however many you feel like making! [ Smiling. ] Hobbies are good, though. Anything to keep you busy in a place like this, for sure, right? I met a boy the other day who was sketching, so we must have just a few artists here.

[Jeanne's story sounds like a sci-fi or a fantasy novel.] Sounds like a difficult, almost impossible thing to do-- to travel to another planets and adapt to a new lifestyle. What happened in Earth that made you leave?

Oh, had I known this earlier I would have picked up more pumpkins. [Could have made more: one for Conrad, another for Josak, etc.]

There used to be an art class but it seems the teacher has left the dome. He was the only person I knew that liked to paint.

It probably wouldn't have been possible if we hadn't received new technology for traveling through fold-space. That's really what made it all come together.

[ Her expression dims a bit. ] People were reckless with it. The lands were all torn apart by war, or covered in garbage. There was no way to recover from it.

It was a long time coming, but that was waaaay before I was born. People are trying much harder now to take care of the environment so we don't make the same mistakes.

Oh, really? That's a shame... I didn't take it, but I think it's the only class like that, isn't it? Unless cooking's an art. [ Begins to score a toothy grin onto the pumpkin's surface, as a guide. ] At least, Jennifer makes it look so easy.

[He listens to her story silently analyzing it.] At least your people were able to start anew, and more importantly, they learned from their mistakes.

... You know Jennifer? [He would have taken the cooking class... if Jennifer wouldn't be the one teaching it.]

Right! [ She smiles, but it has a sad edge to it. Jeanne stops cutting for a moment. ] Most of them, anyway. Wars still happen, and people still misunderstand each other. But I like to think we're trying.

[ Enthusiastic nod. ] I do! She helped me out once when I was really sick and did nothing but sleep. Found me in the park and took care of me. I still need to pay her back for that.

As long as someone longs to end war, that is good enough. [He suddenly remembers how a certain black haired kid single handedly changed the notions of war of their entire country.]

... She probably doesn't expects any kind of payback. [She is a kind one, just like her son.]

Mm, you're right, again. [ Sighing. ] I just wish everyone thought the same way.

[ Back to cutting. ] Probably not, but it was a huge help, and it wouldn't be right not to return the favor somehow. Even if she doesn't expect it.

[ Looking at him now, knife stilled. ] Does that mean you know Jennifer, too?
