[ "Meet me at the hospital." ranks extremely low on the list of things you want to hear late at night, and needless to say Reid doesn't waste any time in getting over there. Luckily he got enough information out of Kitty to know that she's okay, and the rest is easily puzzled together from paying attention to the network. The memorial garden. Tyki. Cross.

It's not difficult at all to guess why she's there, and on the brisk walk to Sector 1 Reid had more than enough time to think and try to prepare for what's ahead. This, so close to Allen's disappearence..? It doesn't take a profiler to figure out the kind of stress that puts on a person. Enough for him to worry.]

[He makes a noise. That's really the best response he's got right now, coupled with a gentle squeeze over her shoulders. It's no surprise that Tyki continued to provoke his attacker, just like it's no surprise that Kitty managed to talk Cross down. It's also not very hard to guess how this must make her feel right about now — they had similar situations back home and that usually didn't involve someone you knew.

In the end, he settles for a comforting cliché. Softly. What else can you say?]

[There's some hesitation. He could fall into a lecture about the various types of monsters that freely admit to their nature. All the Ted Bundys and Richard Ramirezes out there. Or the Jeffrey Dahmers, the monsters that get so guilt-stricken after the deed that they consider themselves just as evil as the public would.

[The addition takes the edge off the already not-really-that-funny joke. He gives her hand a squeeze, letting it linger until you can't call it a squeeze anymore but just a tightened hold. The past few days may not have affected him nearly as much as they did her, but they still bring that one looming threat into sharp light.

She could be gone by morning. Really gone.]

I guess there's nothing to do but wait and see.
