Actually, Stockholm syndrome is a little different - it's a psychological phenomenon where the victim developes irrational feelings of empathy towards their captor, sometimes to the point of defending them against outside threats. While it was named after a hostage situation in Stockholm, Sweden, it doesn't only apply to those types of situations - abusive relationships can also result in this form of traumatic bonding, where the victim mistakes the occasional lack of violence for kindness.
