[Ritsuka has a busy day planned (perhaps even more than he thinks). He'll be starting off from the shelter this morning to pick up a book or two at the library in Sector 2. Following this, you will be able to spot him in Sector 3 as he plays a game or two at the arcade.

Lunch will be in Sector 5, and the afternoon will be spent reading in the park in Sector 4 until it gets too cold and he heads back to the shelter.

Expect his mood to deteriorate as the day wears on.]

[ooc: open to all! if you would like to choose/rng the intensity of the kiss, write the result in the subject of your first comment (cheek, normal, mega). otherwise I will default to normal. cheek only for girls, though, since I want to save Ritsuka's first normal girl kiss.]

	The American poet? [ Soubi gives that hand a gentle squeeze, but to save Ritsuka embarrassment, he doesn't comment. It's nice to be able to hold hands like this without having to talk about it. [ Soubi meets the barrier the moment Ritsuka does, and is immediately wary, keeping a tight hold on Ritsuka's hand, while he runs the other over the invisible wall. He sees now that the robot he noticed only in passing has paused very close by. He's about to ask Ritsuka if he knows what's happening when the robot itself pipes up in a metallic-sounding voice.

'Kiss!' it insists. ]

...does this happen often?

Then it isn't typical. All right. Stay close, Ritsuka.

[ His fingers spread apart against the barrier and he takes a breath as he prepares a spell. ]

All walls are as glass. Pressure, build from within. Cracks like spiderwebs turn to deep fissures. Shatter.

[ The spell's power is potent, each word heavy in the air, despite that it noticeably takes Soubi more effort. And yet it does nothing.

The robot does not seem pleased when it exclaims 'KISS!' once again, this time in a tone which implies that after that display, it doesn't think them intelligent enough to have understood the first time. ]

	It didn't work. [Ritsuka's tone isn't accusatory so much as surprised; this is Soubi we're talking about. It should have worked. Instead, the invisible barrier starts closing in, pushing Ritsuka right up against Soubi.] Why does it want us to kiss? (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

I'm not sure.

[ Soubi is even more surprised than Ritsuka at the sheer ineffectiveness of his spell. And now this invisible box is closing in on them, to the point where Soubi has to pull Ritsuka even closer still for sheer lack of space, both arms curling about the boy's waist.

As if in answer, though, the bot brandishes its attached mistletoe, giving one more urgent reminder to 'KISS!' Soubi decides to take its advice and act quickly, before they're both crushed. Leaning down, he slides his lips against Ritsuka's, the motion familiar, at least, despite the strange situation.

The barriers don't retract--Soubi can still feel a wall firmly against his back--but they do, at least, stop moving inward. ]

[Ritsuka flushes, his dark eyes wide when Soubi initiates the kiss. Granted, he should have been expecting it with the way the bot keeps demanding it of them, but it happens so suddenly that he's taken aback.

He never knows how to feel when Soubi kisses him. He's still unused to the action himself, responding only tentatively to the press of Soubi's lips against his own. It feels more awkward to kiss outside of battle like this, when there's nothing but his own confused thoughts to focus on.

Once they end the relatively brief kiss, Ritsuka mutters low to Soubi.]

Why are we still trapped?

[ Ideally in this situation, he would have liked to ask Ritsuka's permission before kissing him--but with the barrier closing on on them like that with no guarantee that it would stop, he hadn't had the luxury of time. Yet still, even after following instructions, they can hardly move. ]

We shouldn't be.

[ Or at least, that's what he assumes. And yet the bot is still there, holding its mistletoe almost expectantly. ]

	[ ...oh. Soubi has a feeling he knows. But Ritsuka should at least be informed first. He sighs. ] I think what it wants is something more...involved. [ It isn't that Soubi isn't annoyed as well; he doesn't want to be forced into this any more than Ritsuka does. [ It's actually very cute, how Ritsuka is under the impression that a simple lick constitutes a more involved kiss. Reflexively, Soubi's own tongue passes over his lips after Ritsuka's has left. ]

Ritsuka, I think I understand what it means, if you'll let me try.

[ One of his hands settles at the small of Ritsuka's back as the other moves to rest against his cheek, thumb stroking across it in what Soubi hopes is a soothing manner. ]

[Ritsuka's eyes slide slowly closed as Soubi kisses him - wet and warm and gently probing - and his fingers clench in the fabric of Soubi's jacket. These kisses never feel bad exactly, more like something Ritsuka doesn't know how to process.

It's strange, letting Soubi coax his way into the tender warmth of Ritsuka's mouth, past teeth - Ritsuka self-consciously reminds himself not to bite down, even if Soubi might enjoy it - until their tongues meet. Ritsuka is glad Soubi hasn't had a cigarette yet this morning.

He makes a soft sound in response to something Soubi does - he can't identify any individual stroke of Soubi's tongue, which seems to be all over his mouth at once - and opens his mouth a little wider, trying to taste honest affection in the depths of the kiss.]

[ The affection Ritsuka is searching for is there in spades as Soubi kisses him softly, almost reverently. It's strangely cozy, pressed close together like this--Ritsuka's small body is almost as warm as his mouth, as his tongue, when Soubi slides his own against it, lures it into responding. As new and strange as these sensations must be to Ritsuka, they're almost as novel for Soubi, what with an underlying tenderness he's not used to.

That small noise--whatever it is--causes Soubi to gather Ritsuka just a little closer, to run the tip of his tongue slowly along the roof of Ritsuka's mouth, and to give a light sigh of his own, glad of and reassured in the fact that Ritsuka is holding as tightly to him as he is to Ritsuka, his hand sliding from his cheek to the back of his neck, long artist's fingers combing gently through soft black hair. He notices when the wall behind him suddenly isn't there, but he doesn't break the kiss. ]

[Unsurprisingly, Ritsuka hasn't even noticed the barrier's disappearance. The light brush of Soubi's fingers on the back of his neck draws a shiver down Ritsuka's spine. Inexpertly he pushes his tongue against Soubi's, trying with less success than he would like to respond to Soubi's attentions in kind.

Ritsuka still hasn't gotten the knack for breathing and kissing simultaneously, making him end the kiss perhaps earlier than either of them would have liked. He pulls back just a little, letting out a deep sigh, his fingers still clenched in Soubi's coat.

Before he can think of what it is he's supposed to say, the bot makes a peculiarly happy beep, sending a burst of confetti over the two of them. A small slip of paper begins printing out of its chest, accompanied by the spoken message, "COMPATIBILITY RESULTS PRINTING."]

[ Soubi could have kissed him again--almost does, in fact. Because he sees that uncertainty in the moment after they separate, that second of hesitation in which Ritsuka tries to find the right words. He wants Ritsuka to know that as they are now, he doesn't need words. It doesn't matter that Ritsuka's kisses are inexperienced; they're Ritsuka's, and that's what matters. He never wants Ritsuka to be uncertain again.

He also knows just how impossible that is.

But any move he might have made to reestablish a kiss is halted by the sudden eruption of confetti, followed by the robot's voice and the sound of paper being processed through a printer. It doesn't take more than a few seconds for the bot to spit the finished sheet out. Wordlessly, Soubi bends to pick it up, though he remains close to Ritsuka when he stands again. In large print which takes up most of the page is written:

COMPATIBILITY RESULTS
INMATE AGATSUMA, SOUBI
INMATE AOYAGI, RITSUKA
APPROXIMATE COMPATIBILITY RATING: 84%

Assured that the results have been received, Mega-Mistletoe-kun deems its job done and is quickly off to find its next victims.

Soubi, meanwhile, merely stares silently at the print-out. ]

[Well. That was unexpected.

Ritsuka reads over Soubi's arm, flushing darkly at what the paper has to say. He's not sure if he feels embarrassed about the fact that these bots are apparently rating their kisses or disappointed that the rating isn't higher. And then embarrassed about being disappointed, for good measure.]

It's not like it's a bad rating or anything. [huffy] How does a robot calculate something like that anyway?

[ No, it isn't a bad rating. And maybe he feels better about that than he should, given just how ridiculous it all seems. As Ritsuka points out, it's stupid to think that a robot could make such an assessment.

But even so, he folds the paper carefully into a square and tucks it into his back pocket. He's even smiling a little by the time he starts brushing confetti from Ritsuka's hair, and takes a moment to press a quick kiss to Ritsuka's forehead. ]

Maybe it's based on how much you enjoy the kiss?

Soubi!

[Even Ritsuka's (human) ears are tinged pink after a comment like that.]

There's no way the robot could know something like that. [His heart is racing, and he can't stop blushing, and stupid Soubi can just stand there and kiss him again so casually - something swells in Ritsuka's heart, a feeling squeezed painfully into his small body that he neither wants nor understands - anger? affection? embarrassment? happiness? He feels almost like he's finished a spell battle, the invisible tightness of restraints long since vanished choking him, binding him, holding and hurting at the same time.

Maybe he is still a little frightened after all.

But it's hard for Ritsuka to ask Soubi to stay with him; it's hard for him to make demands because they sound too similar to orders instead of something he means from the bottom of his heart.]

If you have something else to do, I can go the rest of the way to the library by myself.

[ It's sort of Soubi's job to make comments like that.

But yeah, he's actually pretty pleased, overall. Pleased enough that his smile widens a little at Ritsuka's exclamation and subsequent protest. ]

The data has to come from something, doesn't it?

[ All right, all right. He's done teasing for now. Because it does actually sting to be dismissed so soon. That's what that is, isn't it? Ritsuka implying that he no longer wants him around? Still, as usual, Soubi's going to try to fish something more concrete out of him. ]

Do you want to go by yourself?

[ His smile doesn't falter, even though the thought that Ritsuka wants to send him away is a needle sinking straight into his heart. It doesn't even occur to Soubi that it could very well be the opposite. He's used to rejection rather than acceptance, so that's usually what he assumes. ]
