[At first there is simply silence, broken by the occasional rhythmic tapping of metal on metal, Davros staring into the camera.]

There appears to have been... a misunderstanding.

[His voice has an electronic, ringing tone to it, currently calm and calculated.]

I have overlooked my list of crimes, and I object to such judgemental and base accusations!

[Davros' face paints a clear picture of barely controlled outrage, and it takes him a few seconds to bring himself to a level where he can continue, his voice, however, is still noticeably agitated.]

I do not accept this mockery of a system. On whose authority do you determine the right to imprison and restrict our movements? This AI, this... Acumen?

[He spits out the name like a bad taste, his voice now beginning to increase in pitch, taking on an almost sarcastic tone]

I am not yet ready to be carefully deposited into the nearest care home like some decrepit relic! There is important work to be done! On which note, how exactly am I to continue my activities within this facility? I can hardly perform the suggested exercise or manual labour, and my research is of the utmost importance! To have it interrupted is unacceptable!

[The camera moves to clearer show his lower body, encased in his life support. A ball and chain is haphazardly attached to it]

How many more indignities do you expect me to stand? Is it not enough that I am reduced to the state of an invalid, I must be restricted further as part of some perverse joke?

Why, doing what all life does in the long run. Removing the competition. Dominating. That is, after all, their purpose. To dominate the entire universe, until they are the only major life form left in existence.

[He couldn't stop himself talking about this right now, even if he wanted to. He sounds proud, not dissimilar to a parent describing their child's achievements.]

And when they are all that is left... There you have it. Universal peace.

[ Uh...huh. Okay. Artoo swivels his dome in an uncertain fashion. That sounds like it would create more war in the meantime. And then like the beings would then proceed to fight amongst themselves.

It also sounds like Davros is maybe a few logic circuits short, there. Okay. ]

WERE THEY SUCCESSFUL AT THIS?

[Davros notes the uncomfortable motion, but is unconcerned. He has heard the argument before...]

With the addition of my greatest achievement in sheer technological engineering... Almost. But not yet. They were... delayed. It is a long term plan.

And to answer any unspoken questions...

[Davros' face is almost accusatory, as if he was insulted by the suggestion that his plan was anything but perfect.]

I have not explained their creation and design in full detail but, suffice to say, my Daleks would have no reason to kill each other without further genetic manipulation on my part. Conflict, you see, is a natural part of life. It comes and goes, over and over, bringing with it suffering and drawn out agony. With my Daleks, the process is simply... accelerated to a natural end.

WHOA, WHOA--

[ Artoo tries to back away from the viewscreen, but it's kind of attached to his casing.

That's not-- he never said-- okay, that was annoying and unfair. So he snapped out the first thing that popped into his head. ]

IF I WANTED TO HAVE THIS ARGUMENT I WOULD HAVE BLOODY WELL SAID SOMETHING!

[ He paused for a few tenths of a second to calm down - a very long pause by droid standards - and then continued. ]

IF IT WORKS, THERE'S A VERY HIGH QUANTIFIABLE COST IN LIVES AND RESOURCES AND A SINGLE UNQUANTIFIABLE BENEFIT. THEY CAN'T BE BALANCED.

IF IT DOESN'T WORK IT WON'T BE THE FIRST WELL ENGINEERED PROJECT TO FAIL. [ Hello, Death Stars I and II. ] THE COST WILL REMAIN THE SAME, BUT THERE WILL BE NO BENEFIT.

IN OTHER WORDS, IT'S PRETTY MUCH THE DEFINITION OF A BAD IDEA.

[video] Aww, I feel sorry for Artoo... It's official. Davros is a dick.

[Davros' hypocrisy knows no bounds, something that can be clearly seen in the look of shock on his face. Despite his previous outburst, he hadn't expected such a violent response. For some reason he had expected R2 to understand... A foolish mistake he would not repeat.]

I would not expect you to understand!

[His anger has a bitter tone to it, this is an old wound.]

It is unquantifiable for you, because you cannot understand the importance of the benefit! The pain and suffering caused by war cannot be calculated or understood through mere statistics! Can you not understand that no cost is too small in the struggle towards the ultimate solution!?! Of course not, you have not experienced true suffering like I, how could you?!

Know this, I will not allow my research to end in failure! I shall not lose, I shall not die, I shall not let it continue, I CANNOT FAIL, I AM DAVROS!!!

[Physically shaking as he recovers from his outburst, Davros' face begins to settle back into its usual blank expression. There is something that could almost be described as fear and disgust in his expression as he recovers. It only remains for a brief moment however. He had let it go too far... How could he have expected this droid to understand the importance of his work.]

I... Was wrong to expect understanding. It is a matter of morality and euthanasia. You were right not to broach the subject. Clearly this discussion has no logical conclusion for us to mutually reach.

[How could he have been so stupid? No. He was not stupid. How could he be, considering all his acheivements? It was the limitations of this R2 droid. He wasn't about to succeed in impressing emotional worth on a robotic sentient.]

... Excuse me.

[He moves his single hand slowly, as if to shut off the feed, but hesitates. Unsure if it would be the best cause of action. Instead he engrosses himself in a simulated genetic experiment via his database. He has gone over it many, many times before. But he isn't looking for knowledge at this point, instead he searches for some form of distraction.]

[ Artoo knew Davros was lying; he had expected the droid to understand, or he wouldn't have brought it up. And, to some extent, Davros was right. Artoo would readily admit that he had no emotional attachment to the concept of "peace". Part of that was because he had never lived in an era of what he would consider absolute peace, where no one was engaged in battle with anyone else. He wondered now if such an era had ever existed in recorded history - just in his own galaxy, let alone the universe.

Davros probably hadn't experienced such an era, either. He only thought he wanted peace because of what war had done to him. Perhaps he had lost something or someone slowly or numerous times and felt that it would have been better for it to have been taken from him quickly and ruthlessly.

Artoo didn't want to pity Davros, but he thought it was like giving up to believe that life wasn't worth fighting for just because it could be terminated. Or perverted. Maybe, if he had had to watch a whole planet full of Anakins destroy everything they cared for and eventually die, he would at least agree. ]

AGREED. LET'S NOT DISCUSS THIS IN THE FUTURE.

[ He could relate to Davros's apparent desire for a destraction, however. Right now Artoo felt like going home and tinkering with what electronics and other odds and ends he had acquired since arriving. Or shopping. Anything, really, to take his mind off of such serious subjects. ]

I'LL TALK TO YOU LATER.

[ It seemed a fitting thing to say, similar to what he would say to Threepio whenever they were separated. This wasn't a similar situation, but for some reason Artoo did want to talk to Davros again. Still. But, like returning from a mission in one piece, it wasn't entirely up to him. ]

[Forcing himself to be drawn into his work, Davros mumbles to himself in an almost unintelligible voice.]

Yes, later. Talk later.

[After such an outrage he should simply drop all connections with this droid. There would surely be more useful alliances to be made in the fight against Acumen. Distractions would not be necessary to an intellect as mighty as his own! And yet, for a combination of confused reasons; Davros finds himself whispering in a voice so quiet it is a wonder he can hear it himself.]

I should like that.

[And with that, he cuts the feed.]
