[ Log | Closed ] Tonight we walk on water
DATE: Day 121, evening
INVOLVED: [info]fleur_de_glorie and [info]arcanesansnom
ACTIVITY: An innocent nighttime picnic, to discuss Prom preparations and... stuff.
RATING: T for Teenage girl ambitions

Jeanne had her work cut out for her tonight! Acumen surprised her by announcing festivities for today, so there was no way to set anything up earlier. On the other hand, it gave her the perfect opportunity which she wasn't about to waste. The more Jeanne would dwell on it, the more she was certain she had to say something now that he was back. Why risk losing a chance this second time?

First was the call to ensure Ribbons could set some time aside for her today. Even though she said this was primarily to brainstorm a new potential party, that's not the only reason she called him out.

Next came a brief respite at the beach, as she figured Saya would be there for the food. She had been right, but her timing had been somewhat... unfortunate. It didn't keep her from enjoying a couple of rounds of volleyball, though! But that meant she had to go home and change completely and shower to get all the sand out of her hair and that always takes her forever and then she was indecisive about the outfit and would too much makeup be too obvious and what about that sun-dress but the sun won't be out so maybe something heavier and argh!

Jeanne finally settled on a cute daisy-print dress and a matching hairband, opting out of the curls this time, leaving her hair down in golden, wavy layers that she isn't quite sure she likes. It's probably time for a trim soon... but not today! She has to gather up all the supplies and go set the scene next.

In the park she laid out a checkered blanket right under a tree, with several books to weight it down, a basket of goodies in the center, and a none-too-bright lamp that hung from a low branch. She has some time before he arrives, and getting all of this together on relatively short notice took a bit out of her. (It doesn't help that she didn't sleep too well the night before, but that's not going to stop her!) The fireflies were just so delightful, too. Her eyelids became heavy and she found herself dozing gently as she sat with her back against the trunk of the tree.

"Boredom and discontentment. As petty as they may sound, enough time like that can make way for trouble." Give them what they want, Ribbons thought. It was the same way he had tried to deal with Earth's populace during his reign. Except that there were a bunch of ingrates to rain on his parade.

Bitter thoughts aside... "I'm sorry -- 'no showers'? In a space vessel?"

She nodded her agreement. It was, again, more pleasant than the other times she had been incarcerated, and those hadn't even been the maximum security style facilities she heard about. This place wasn't home, but sometimes she wished she could forget that she, and others, were trapped here.

Or that they might forget, too...

At his question, she chuckled. "No, I meant on the base. Detention facility rules! ... or just Lana and her cohorts being meanies."

this is the thread that never ends...

That would make the two of them, except that Ribbons also wishes his pining for days of glory long gone would also end...

He made a face that seems half-pained, half-amused. "Oh that is quite the punishment!" And he wondered as to why he did not think of applying the 'no shower' rule. "I do not think I would be able to stand that kind of disciplinary action!"

Jeanne covers her mouth as she giggles at the mental image. "I don't think you'd have that trouble. I mean, just think..." She reaches up and gently nips at one of his green locks with two fingers. "It would be hell on your hair, and that would be a crime!"

He does not flinch at the contact, and he will catch her hand before she withdraws it, to gently fold it between the two of his, almost like a mother would to a mischievous daughter.

"My hair appreciates the concern dear. And I certainly appreciate your company."

And was that a sincere smile? Must be the light.

The lighting would be in his favor, then, because the shadows aren't what darkened her cheeks just then. Her eyes are glued to his, and her lips are parted for a silent moment before she can will herself to stop her forward momentum and answer him with words, instead. Don't mess this up like last time!

"You know I do, too, Ribbons..." Though there is an uncertain pause. "...right?"

Ribbons would be prepared for any kind of temptation Jeanne might subject herself to, but he is glad that she had stopped herself.

"Yes, I do."

He picked up the container of croque monsieur. "Would you like to take these home? Heating them up in an oven for a minute would have them good as new."

Good for them both, then, that he didn't need a reminder. Smiling softly, she nods in acknowledgement. Then she shifts away to look at his offer. "Really? I think I might! I bet Saya would love to try them, too." Not that there's a whole lot her friend wont eat. "What about the burritos? I think I made too many, but I didn't want to leave the leftovers at home in case you wanted to share them, too."

It was quite hard for an Innovade to forget...

"How can I refuse? I am sure Hiling would definitely like to try these." If Hiling liked tacos, then she would certainly like burritos.

He fell a little silent at the mention of Saya. He did not wish to dampen an otherwise cheerful mood. Amusedly: "She does have quite the appetite, does she?"

"Good! Then it's a trade," and she'll work at getting that other plastic container sealed up to give to him. At the comment, she giggles. "She does. I'm always amazed that she doesn't seem to gain a pound!"

Bit of a sigh. She knows the truth about why, but it still isn't something to make public, now is it? Jeanne covers it up with a discontent murmur. "It makes me a little jealous."

Ribbons was quite agreeable to the exchange of goods! After sealing his own container, he then handed it over to Jeanne.

"I blame it on metabolism. Or an active lifestyle, what with her being part of the Defense Force."

Oh, no. Tread carefully there, Ribbons. Jeanne gives him a short sidelong glance. "I'm on the Defense Force, too, you know." She deftly picks the container from his hands and drops it in her basket.

He mentally rolled his eyes. Feathers ruffled over such a little thing?

"Metabolism, dear. Everyone's is unique."

Jeanne takes her physical shape extremely seriously! These hips don't lie, you know. What's amazing is that she hasn't worn out the scale at home from constant re-checking. "Still. If I was back home, I'd only be in better shape from all the drills." Tiny sigh, though it's more directed at herself for getting upset about it. "I never thought I'd miss reveille of all things..."

"Didn't you say you played volleyball though? I do believe Miss Aino still teaches that. Then there's the soccer class and my dance class -- perhaps see if you can attend on a regular basis? It is no replacement for drills but they do have their benefits!"

He found that last bit quite amusing though. "Is Acumen's morning announcement insufficient as a réveille?"

At that, she sticks her tongue out. "I try not to sleep near the headset. Acumen's voice is a poor way to rouse a girl from her beauty rest!"

"I already do all that -- well, except the soccer class, but grass stains are such a pain..."

"So that would mean that you have been attending my classes regularly, despite my absence~?" He was teasing of course. He would not take it against her if she did not attend. "Not interested in Commissar Cain's Swordsmanship Class?"

"Well..." Glancing away, not exactly proud of the fact that she missed quite a few, and then there was that time Hiling wasn't even holding class anymore.

"Hm? Oh, no. Those weapons aren't my style." Not to mention Saya might have a thing or two to say about her learning swordfighting all the sudden. There's no way it would look like a coincidence, given their situation.

"Hm. Understandable."

Briefly, he looked up the sky, through the leaves of the tree they sat under, then down at the zenith to look at the figures drawn to outline the stars.

"I wonder if you see the same stars from where you were, in Liberte and Glorie."

She blinked, following his gaze as if that would show her where he came up with that change in topic.

"You could see the sky clearly most nights outside of the city," Jeanne sighed. "I think they're the same stars that you would've seen from Earth, just from a different point of view."

"I had been thinking that perhaps they would have a different pattern, different constellations..."

But perhaps that can be a discussion for a different time. And speaking of the night sky...

"It is getting late. I suppose we should be heading home."

And she could go into that, but he has a good idea there. Jeanne nods. "Maybe I'll see if I can get records from back home for the projector. It would be nice to share that sky with you, sometime." A brief pause, catching herself. "And others, too!"

Quickly covering that up by working to pack up her basket. "You're right. We don't want to worry anyone!"

"I am sure everyone will appreciate it," He gave her a pleased smile as he goes about fixing his things as well. "As much as I will, of course."

And because Ribbons has the skill of being discrete and efficient, he had cleaned up quickly enough, so as by the time Jeanne will look up, he would have his hand extended to help her up.

"I hope so!" Done, she turns and, --oh!

Smiling, she takes his hand easily and rises to her feet. "Thank you, Ribbons. You're always such a gentleman." Something that cannot be overstated.

He gave Jeanne a gracious nod in reply. Once she has gotten back on her feet, he will even help her fix the cloth. "Let us fold this up then -- I will take one side and you take the other?"

Here is to hoping that Jeanne would at least know about 'cooperative sheet-folding'~
