Day 290 - Timeline Shifting - Mingle

[info]marinanova_npc
[info]marinanova
[Maybe you feel like you've been dropped somewhere new without warning. This is not my room. This is not my pet iguana. These are not my comfy bedsheets! So now maybe you're out exploring, trying to figure it out. Or maybe you woke up with a head full of new memories and a new outlook on life and prison. Maybe you just think you got lost in the dimensional stabilizer for awhile. Maybe everything is normal for you and the weirdness is just everyone you meet. Whatever the case you're out and about now and apt to run into others. Engage and enjoy!]

( The face that appears is familiar... And very confused. )

I thought I was done. I served a sentence, I did my time. So tell me, why is it that I'm back home for less than two hours before I wind up here again? Seriously. Two hours. That's all I get? After everything I've -- ( she heaves a sigh. ) Forget it. At least tell me that in those two hours, you've cleaned my room or something. Does the AI do that? Housekeeping deportation? That'd be great, because I swear, the last time I cleaned was only to find something, and it's not like I have much anyway but -- it was definitely what you'd call organized chaos.

Anyway.

( she lifts a hand and waves, her confusion wiping away for a slight smile, though it's still laced with irritation. )

What'd I miss?

It’s funny, the eggs the other day were a little early for Easter by my count, but not too much. I know there’s not a real calendar here, but I’ve been keeping track, since I know what day it was when we got here. In the City, there was usually some kind of curse around holidays, so it almost made me feel at home.

[He smiles; it’s a bit of a joke at his own expense. Being homesick has worn him down, but it’s hard to get over.]

Last year we had eggs, too-- popping up all over the place, all different colors. I thought this might be the same, but they just had candy and things inside of them.

[And now Neil holds up his prize, still amused.]

Last year’s hatched into dragons, which... well, there were a lot of them. It wasn’t so bad at first but they grew up very quickly, and that got out of hand pretty quickly.

We kept one, though-- our friend Rosella found a spell to shrink them down, and once they were little again they weren’t really dangerous. She fought with the cat, though, so she lived in the bookshop. Annabel Lee, I mean, the little dragon. We let her go before we left-- it seemed like it’d be safer than taking her through the Door, since we weren’t sure where we’d end up.

I hope she’s doing all right on her own...

[info]marinanova
Todd is not affected by the animal business going on today - in fact, not only is he not personally transformed either entirely or in part, he's not even remotely fazed by it. Spend enough time in the places he has, and you'll stop being bothered when everyone's species suddenly switches around, too.

So he goes about his business today. On this particular day, that involves going to the library (oblivious to the previous day's events there), where he holes himself up in a corner with some of the latest cycle of poetry books - though, he is starting to make more of an effort to walk through the entire library and exchange polite, quiet smiles with those he passes.

From there, he makes his way across Sector 0 and into Sector 4, stopping along the way to take out a notebook and leisurely write for some time in Quatro Park. Writing, scratching out, re-writing, silently reading over what he's got to himself, and reworking it yet again. It's a process.

When he does get up, he continues on his way through, and pauses at the bike store. It has been a while since he's had a bike... it can't hurt to take a look, right?

[ ooc: find him anywhere you like along the way, be you humanoid or animal - whether communicative or not. ]

[info]redclayheroics
[info]marinanova
[ A punishment doesn't always have to be a terrible thing and Aidan is actually pretty excited about this potluck — not counting a small break for baseball, he's spent most of the day setting up and with a little help from his friends, the beach is looking pretty great. There are tables set up for the food, legs buried deep in the sand for stability and plenty of blankets and beach towels to hang out on. Candles are shoved down into the sand, ready to be lit as the sun sets and he's already got a good fire going in the fire pit, ready for barbeque.

With the waves lapping at the sand, the breeze in the palm trees and the slowly sinking sun, it really couldn't be a more perfect time for a casual party at the beach. Come one, come all, mingle away! ]

[ VIDEO ]

I am now taking applications to be my roommate! If you're interested you should...[Pausing because he hadn't thought this far ahead.] tell me. [He really isn't enjoying this alone thing.]

OH! And come to baseball practice today. You should really join the team if you haven't already. I think that's it!

(OOC: Use THIS THREAD for video replies. Notifs are off for mingle purposes.)

[ BASEBALL PRACTICE MINGLE ]

[It's that time again! The (usually handwaved) baseball practice! Grab a glove, grab a ball, grab a bat! Come work on your technique, do some drills, play catch, talk to your fellow baseball players and people who stop by to look (and maybe be enabled to join.)]

[ action | open | mingle style ] Cooking Class

[info]trytobenormal
[info]marinanova
[Piper had the cooking lab set up and ready to go. She was nervous as all heck, but she was as ready to do this as she was ever going to be. She found herself questioning why she was doing this, but no point in running that through her head now.]

Hello, everyone, and welcome to Cooking Class.

[She gave them all a somewhat nervous smile.]

This is a first for me, so I'm looking for a lot of feedback on this one. What are you interested in learning? What are you current skills? Stuff like that. We can do recipe courses, like what you see on a cooking show, or we can teach specific techniques for people who are looking for something more rudimentary.

[She picked up her apron.]

I have some extra aprons in the back, so grab one if you didn't bring your own. Cooking can get pretty messy, even when you know what you're doing.

[She put the apron on, and, while everyone was getting theirs, handed out a sheet of paper with a recipe on it.]

We're going to start with a simple recipe today so I can figure out where everyone is in their skill level.

{OOC: MINGLE IT UP!! I'll make a comment below so people can thread with Piper specifically. I'm also going to set up a feedback thread so characters can leave feedback. There's also a post on Piper's journal for the class where people can leave recipe requests for future classes, as well as questions for future classes about techniques.}

day 272, open dreaming

[info]questionofwhen
[info]marinanova
1. Sex

[It's a no-tell motel, dark and cheap and anonymous. Unmade single bed, locked door (it won't open, but you can try it), a black coat on the floor.

Blood.

It's a dark stain on a dark carpet, creeping closer to your feet. If you look for the source--and you will, won't you?--you'll find a blonde woman sprawled across the floor. She's stripped down to lacy black lingerie. More importantly, she's gasping for breath. Blood trickles out of the corner of her mouth and streams from the gashes in her exposed stomach. She looks at you, scared. Her blood-stained lips move, but all that comes out is a rattling cough. Run. That's what she's trying to say.

Will you try?]

2. Birth

[Everything's bright and white. Sterile. It's a hospital, but no one here is hooked up to IVs or being rushed to surgery. No one is screaming or muttering or talking about the last football game at the intake desk. There's no one at all.

Except for Nathan.

The boy is dressed in a prison jumpsuit--orange, of course--and seated on the white tile floor, cross-legged. There's a bird's nest next to him. It's empty, but a single baby bird, young and covered in downy feathers, is cupped in Nathan's hands. It chirps. The teenager looks up at you, confused and a little distressed. What is he supposed to do with this tiny life?]

3. Death

[It doesn't matter where you are. Maybe it's somewhere in the prison; maybe it's someone's home, or maybe it's nowhere at all. All you see is the blood. It's on your hands and your clothes. It soaks the formerly-white bedspread under you (when did a bed get there?) and speckles a business card sitting just out of reach. The card doesn't say much. Dr. Spencer Reid.

Your blood-slicked fingers are clutching pale arms, trying to keep deep cuts (vertical--you cut vertically when you're serious about killing yourself) from draining the teenager on the bed dry. Nathan is prone on the bed. If the knife in one of his still hands is any indication, those cuts are self-inflicted.

Just in case there was some doubt, Nathan addresses you. He's mumbling, but he appears lucid enough. If you can make out his slurred words, you might get the impression that he's telling you to go--to not save his life.

Whether or not you listen is up to you.]

[ooc: Feel free to pick one as a starting point, but know that one scenario might turn into another if things go that way. Also? Warnings for blood, the murder of prostitutes, and themes of suicide. Oh, and your character might get stabbed. No guarantees, just throwing that out there.]

[ Option one: Queen Bee. (potentially sexy) ]

[ You find yourself inside a giant beehive, honey dripping thickly from the walls. There’s the occasional bee buzzing around, head like Anubis but they don’t seem to be paying much attention to any intruders. Should you venture further into the hive you’ll eventually enter a pie shop with furniture made up of cheese and rotting fruit. Chuck is waiting behind the counter, clad in a saran wrap dress and not much else. ]

[ Option two: Agatha Christie eat your heart out. ]

[ Someone is dead. Murdered in cold blood or perhaps by way of scratch-and-sniff or deep-fried in their own secret chicken recipe. Maybe you did it. Maybe you saw it happened. Maybe you’re in the morgue already, staring at a dead body with a girl next to you who looks on with expectation. ]

[Right, well. Not the first time he's found himself in an unfamiliar place. It's also not the first time he's found himself stuck in a glass prison surrounded by water. Unfortunately, said surrounding water doesn't feel familiar to him at all and his bearings are all jumbled and mixed up and his mind is still reeling from that message he'd woken up with.

Deep breaths, Percy. You've been in far worse.]

Hey, fellow crooks and criminals. I should totally be used to this by now. I mean, I am. You could probably tell by the way I'm not freaking out or anything.

[It's true, he's actually pretty darn composed. Almost like he does this for a living.

Gods, he doesn't want to do this for a living.]

So... prison! [Claps his hands together as he very obviously searches for something to say.] As much as I'd love, like seriously love to spend the rest of my life stuck in a giant fishbowl with the rest of you, I'm kind of on a tight schedule. Places to be, people to see...

[Goddesses to kill, a world to save. The usual in the life of Percy Jackson.]

I'd really appreciate it if someone could just point me to the nearest exit sign and I'll take it from there, thanks.

[And though he keeps his tone light, there's a weary light to his eyes, a tense set in his jaw as if he's ready to spring into action at a moment's notice now.]

Hello, everyone!

[Behold, a wild Neil appears! Looking vaguely bemused, but all in all cheerful.]

It’s been ages since I had to introduce myself like this-- I’m out of practice. My name is Neil. I got here a few days ago, with my friend Todd. We came here from a place called the City, which was a little like this-- most of the people living there came from different worlds, or at least a lot of us did.

[He pauses, all too aware that this sounds a little nuts, but hey. It would've sounded crazier if they'd ended up in a proper self-contained universe, right?]

And things like yesterday-- with all those little furry things-- would happen every couple of days, too. Or other kinds of... Well, we called them curses, though I don't think you have anything exactly like it. But, I guess, we're used to strange things.

[And he smiles brightly.]

Anyway. I was speaking to the-- to one of the Wardens, yesterday morning, and she suggested I ought to get involved in some activities here.

[Because Neil wants his stuff back. His books, how is he supposed to get by without the few ones he packed?]

So I thought I'd introduce myself, and ask for some suggestions. Where should I start?

DAY 266 — Morning Greeting

[info]ai_conscienti
[info]marinanova
Good morning, inmates. Today is day [ 266 ] of the first generation. The weather scheduled for today is [ cloudy with scattered showers ].

The unforeseen abundance of [ tribbles ] yesterday has now been cleaned up. Due to the extreme nature of this event, no punishments will be given out at this time. Harming or killing pets in the future will be punishable according to the [ facility rules ], as always.

Neutered and spayed tribbles are now available for adoption in the [ Pet Café ] in Sector 1. We thank you for your patience in regards to this matter.

Request for inmate [ William Pratt ] is now available for pickup at the Kiosk.

Have a nice day.

[ And like always, we end this message with a jaunty tune! You're welcome. ]

(OOC: Kiosk requests will be handled by Conscienti unless otherwise requested! Mail submissions go here! )

[Yesterday you may have noticed a young woman in an orange jumpsuit trying to beat the shit out of one of the kiosks. And, after taking one look at her face and the dents she's already made in the machine, you would have been very, very wise to stay out of her way. The Wardens can handle it, after all, and handle it they did. Today it's time for Korra to pay the piper.]

[ audio ]
What? Ew!!! I am NOT cleaning your pubic mats! That's DISGUSTING!

[Due to network maintenance, she may have, ahem, misunderstood her punishment.]

[ action ]
[After a great deal of trial & error and possible other inmate intervention, Korra is settled into the spa in Sector 3, scowling as she scrubs the baths.]

[ An uncertain voice comes on the network; despite his native time period, he's actually dealt with this kind of communication before, but this device is something else entirely. Not at all like what they had in the City. ]

Uh. Hello?

[ Well, that's one place to start. ]

I'm… I'm not exactly sure how I got here, but. Hi. My name is Todd. I, uh... I was just in a place called the City, and I... well, I don't know if the door brought me here, or if I was just taken here, but. Either way, I'm here now.

[ He's nervous, and there's a good reason for it - one he voices after a slight pause. ]

Neil? Are you here?
