DAY 265 ✯ OPEN VOICE.

[info]borg
[info]marinanova
I would advise against interacting with the Polygeminus grex that have infiltrated the prison population. They are non-sentient lifeforms from a relatively uninhabited planet in the Beta Quadrant. On their homeworld, their numbers are controlled by a number of natural predatory species they are the primary food source for, but without their being prey, their numbers will expand. Polygeminus grex reproduces asexually; they are born pregnant and can bear an average litter of ten every twelve hours. If they are allowed to persist with uncontrolled breeding patterns, then we will likely have a population well into the thousands by the end of the day — millions by the end of the week.

Seeing as the wardens do not appear to be taking the proper measures needed to control the Polygeminus rex population, risking punishment in an effort to do so ourselves is preferable to not doing anything at all.

DAY 263 ✯ ACCIDENTAL VIDEO.

[info]marinanova
[ the feed opens to show seven of nine standing inside her alcove, the borg technology a stark contrast against the white walls of the room it's been placed in. her eyes are closed and she's unmoving, standing perfectly still on the platform as if a switch has been flipped and she's been left dormant, offline.

for a few minutes, the feed remains static and unchanged, but then a computerized voice sounds— ]
EIGHTEEN HUNDRED HOURS. REGENERATION CYCLE COMPLETE.

[ seven's eyes snap open and she steps off the platform, recharged, fully alert, and suddenly very aware of the headset she left on the console, its screen bright and obviously recording. ]

This per▓▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒░ing troublesome.

[ It's not a particularly interesting video unless you happen to like looking at a man's face while he's performing tai-chi. Bruce is serene, expressionless, elegantly balanced and masterful, as though he's performed the 42 steps a thousand times before (Spoilers, he has). His eyes are focused on a spot a short distance in front of him.

He performs for almost five minutes without noticing anything. As four minutes and fifty seven seconds comes and it seems as if he isn't about to stop any time soon, the feed clicks off again.

Hello.

[Inara flashes a charming smile as she sits, soothing her skirt out around her.]

While I am well aware that we're not required to actually work here, I find myself with a lot of time on my hands....

[She exhales slowly and then clasps her hands together on her lap.]

I'm well trained in a number of areas, from Economics to music and dance, as well as psychology and music just to name a few. I would be more than happy to work or even just help out where ever anyone needs help.

I suppose I'm just hoping to find a way to pass the time more productively.

DAY 262 * RAVE PARTY MINGLE

[info]notbabymagic
[info]marinanova
[Later in the day, once the latest wave of new arrivals had a chance to settle in, a giant INVITATION will be sent over the dome network. Giving the time and location of a massive Rave Party. Everybody was invited. Except the Wardens, because screw them.]

[Upon arriving, party-goers will be treated to a spectacular sight:]

[The whole of the indoors will be decorated, wall to wall, in these breathtaking glow-in-the-dark displays. The only other sources of light being the occasional octopus-shaped lamp sitting on the wall tables. Besides that, there will be boxes of Glow Jewelry already cracked and waiting to be worn.]

[The music playing from the speakers in every corner of the room carries a heavy bass beat to it. Perfect for cutting loose and making casual conversation all but impossible. You'd have to go outside for that.]

[Oh, yeah, and one more thing?]

[Quatre's listened intently to every drop of information he's been given, along with what his eyes and 'normal' senses have to say. Though one sense is lacking...and making him twitchier than he's been the last little while. It's almost a blessing to not have as big of a gaping hole in his heart for feeling Trowa's absence, but even that thought makes him feel horrid.]

You'll all have to excuse my abrupt questions, they're likely not even surprising to those who have been here for a while. However, I feel they deserve asking, and I'd like to hear any answer you can provide. What happens if an inmate cannot be 'rehabilitated'? What if it's too late to save someone?

[Julian groaned as he woke up--he felt like he'd slept for hours, but he was lying on something much harder than even the station's Cardassian beds, and it made his neck and shoulders ache terribly. He stretched his neck, then opened his eyes--and was immediately on high alert when the unmistakable fact that he was somewhere that was most definitely not Deep Space 9--not even the holosuite--hit him.

And then the device over his ear and half his face began to play its welcoming message, and he was immediately even more incredulous and angry. To be accused of such crimes and sentenced without due trial--when he'd just avoided being unceremoniously bounced out of Starfleet...

Julian had just escaped a prison that he'd been abducted to in the quiet of night, and now here he was again--without even the dignity of his uniform, instead a bright orange thing that even his fashion sense was affronted by.

There were other people here, he could see them going about their lives, hear their voices over the communicator looped over his ear. Well, time to get the introductions over with.]

Normally, I'd expect to be at least given the basic right of due process and trial by a jury of peers--in which I am proven guilty of whatever crimes I am accused of--before being thrown into a prison indefinitely.

[Not to mention he's fairly sure whoever and whatever power is holding him here doesn't have jurisdiction over him.]

I am Lieutenant Julian Bashir, Chief Medical Officer of Deep Space 9. I'd appreciate any further information anyone can give--and if there are any Starfleet officers present, I would appreciate hearing from you.

[ she's been giving this consideration after certain things have happened and what she's been noticing happening. it seems as though a lot of the people here are having a difficult time, some more open than others, and deanna wants to be able to offer something to help them cope. she doesn't know if any of them will take her up on her offer, especially since she can't just override them by rank given to a counselor like she would on the enterprise, but she figures it can't hurt to offer.

so here she is, turning on the communicators for something she hopes will be simple, but knows likely won't be. ]

My name is Deanna Troi. I know I haven't met many of you yet and I hope that we will be able to talk in the future. That's part of why I'm setting up this communication. I've noticed that a lot of us are having a difficult time, either settling in or dealing with what's happened lately. [ the marinalympics stuff and losing so many people so suddenly... a lot of things, really. ]

I realize that I don't know a lot of you and so this may sound strange [ or upsetting ] to some of you. My job back where I'm from is to help my [ crew ] fellows by talking them through whatever difficulties their lives present. I'm a counselor and I would like to offer the same here. I don't yet have an office, but I think for the remainder of the day, I will be in Två Park in Sector 2 if anyone would like to speak with me. I would be happy to talk with anyone at any time, even if it's just about the weather. Our talks will always be entirely confidential.

[ she offers a gentle smile here. ] And at least the weather today is nice. [ and that's all for the communicators.

[ Waking up to Haruka is always a great thing, right? Just ask Michiru. Despite having been here for a few weeks, Haruka hasn't formally introduced herself over the network, so when she starts the feed up she coughs to clear her throat and gives the camera a smile. She's leaning on her motor scooter, and she's surrounded by bicycles. ]

Yo, everyone. If we haven't met before, I'm Tenoh Haruka - your new Driver's Ed teacher. We'll be meeting days 1 and 4 at 11, outside the sports center in sector 1. [ She laughs. ] Sure, we can't drive anything too fancy here, but I think we'll make do!

[ But enough cryptic references to her souped-up Vespa. The grin returns. ] Today we're playing with bicycles, so if you've never seen one of these before - [ she pats the handlebars ] - or never learned, or just want some exercise, we'd love to have you. I'll bring the bikes. You bring the balance.

See you then! [ A wink, and she cuts the feed. Wow, advertising feels weird. ]

action - driver's ed class

[ As promised, Haruka has something like half a dozen bicycles, complete with helmets and water bottles, lined up outside the sports center. She's in a tracksuit and is doing stretches while she waits for her class to convene, and she's also brought along a toolkit and enough training wheels for everyone, if necessary. Plans for the class involve getting everyone a bike, finding out who knows how to ride one and who doesn't, showing the different parts of a bicycle and how it works, and then practicing by riding around the area. She'll save taking a bike tour of the dome for the next class, unless everybody who shows up already knows how to ride.

Also, students beware. She's friendly for one-on-one, but Mentor Mode!Haruka can be a little strict.

It's a beautiful morning. Good morning, to old friends and to new. One more day will complete our first week here, Deanna and I. A lot seems to have happened in that short time; losses that some of us have felt very strongly, and we've made new friends, people that I hope to get to know better in the coming weeks.

I'd very much like to use this opportunity to meet more of the inmates here, and perhaps to speak more frankly with some of you those that I've already met, now that I've had the opportunity to get a better understanding of my surroundings. If anyone would like to speak in person, or join me on the ice, I'll be spending the next few hours at the ice rink in Sector 3. From what I hear the sparkly costumes are obligatory. [ helen's day begins early. she couldn't sleep, knowing the day that has been creeping up on her. it isn't december 8th by the prison's standards, but by the calendar she's been keeping based on the day it had been in her world when she arrived, it's now december 8th, her daughter's birthday. she's been dreading this day, dreading the memories and heartache that will surely overwhelm her. she'd been intending to spend this day with jean-luc, but after not seeing him for a few days and being unable to even contact him, she has to face the truth: he's gone. she knows she could ask one of his crew, but she's hardly prepared to face them, not even data or seven. instead, she heads for james' apartment, but there's a nasty surprise waiting for her. normally, this would be the time she would bury herself in her work and she fully intends to do that. but the clinic isn't the place for it; the last thing she wants is for any of them to see how terribly she's taking this.

she does, however, leave a voice message for others, her tone controlled but with an underlying hint of the painful emotion she's experiencing today. ]

For those who knew him, Dr. James Watson has left.

[ at the clinic, she only stays for a few moments, long enough to drop an early-morning note on her desk for martha and her other volunteers saying that she's taken some paperwork with her but she won't be in for the next day or so. it's unusual, she knows, but she can't face anything at the moment. not today and perhaps not tomorrow.

she takes a few moments at the library, mostly to get a few scientific books that'll keep her occupied for a few days, and after both of those errands have been run, she heads back to the apartment she's claimed. she really needs a pet here, one that won't disappear on her.

later in the day, she can be found at the pet cafe and she'll be there for a few hours before she returns to the apartment once again. she's not likely to be social and might even be far more snappy than people are accustomed to from her, but she does actually need the company. for a time, she considers asking rose to keep her company, but thinks better of it. rose is yet another friend she might lose.

she can be found in any of these locations or anywhere in between. ]

[info]friendly_fire
[info]marinanova
[Welcome to the school fair brought to you by Euphemia and a lot of hard working volunteers. Things may seem a little more homemade and less polished and plentiful than they do during a warden-run celebration, but everything was done with a lot of heart. As you walk around you'll find:

Informational booth. There is a brightly-colored booth when you first come in adorned with school catalogs and multi-colored gift bags featuring pens, pencils, highlighters, notebooks, bookmarks, binders, and more. Euphie will be there much of the day enabling new students and teachers.

Booths for classes and activities. Teachers were all encouraged to have displays or games or just be there to talk about what they offer for however long they're willing. Leaders of organizations that exist or that they want to create can do the same. And if someone wants to make a kissing booth or something no one will stop them!

Food. They are set up in sector 0 with all the food carts hosting a variety of street foods, perfect for eating on the move. There are also tables set up with desserts including cake pops, carmel corn, and cookies-on-a-stick as well as coolers with non-alcoholic beverages.

Games. There's a duck pond where you pull out a rubber ducky and get a simple prize that corresponds to the number on it. There's also a ring toss and a target hitting game with a paint ball gun. Since it's a school fair there are also some learning games like a trivia challenge. Chess boards have also been set up for people to enjoy, including one giant chess board where you can use the giant pieces or your friends. You'll also find life-size Jenga blocks. Don't worry, they are a light weight material in case they collapse on you.

Giant Puzzle. In the morning there is a large-scale puzzle set up surrounded by paints and brushes. The puzzle is already assembled, but blank. Each piece is larger than your head. People are encouraged to paint on it until it has all been filled. That afternoon it will be broken up for people to reassemble.

Stage. There's a small stage with a variety of instruments lined up in hopes of people showing off various talents from singing, to playing music, to dancing, to reading poetry, or juggling. Whatever they might want to share!]

(OOC: Everyone is sooo welcome to get engaged! Do something fun, weird, dangerous with a booth or the stage or anything in your comments. Need some extra plotting?)

Resistance is futile. Fu-tile. There is— There is something terribly presumptuous about the futility of resistance, when many species have proven themselves to be remarkably resilient. It's often that ability to resist that deems them worthy of interest, of assimilation; what makes them exceptional drones once they have been assimilated into the Collective. Thus, it is the very futility of resistance itself which makes the resistance futile.

Order brought to the chaos that rebelled against the order. That resisted it.

Resistance isn't futile at all. It's vital. Resistance— Resistance is vital.
