Day 267 | Open Action

[As he wakes up, he can tell something is wrong. Where is the sawing and hammering of the lumberyard near the bridgemen's barracks? The mixed smells of sweat and freshly oiled leather from the bridgemen themselves? The other sounds and smells from the rest of Sadeas' warcamp?

He wakes up the rest of the way all at once, opening his eyes and scrambling to his feet. Looking around, he is very confused by what he can see. Not only are the buildings different from the usual wood or soulcast stone he's used to, but the very plants themselve are like nothing he has ever seen. He's at least heard of the lush grass native to Shinovar that doesn't need to retract into the very ground to protect itself from the highstorms that the rest of Roshar is subjected to, but he has never actually seen it in person. Before he has a chance to take in much more, the communication device on his face comes to life, startling him at first, but it seems harmless enough, so he leaves it in place and gives half of his attention to the welcome message, the rest still attuned to his surroundings, preparing himself for just about anything.]

Kaladin!

[He's used to Syl running off on her own and coming back randomly, so when she flutters into view as a handful of glowing blue-white leaves, he just holds up a hand until the message on his communication device finishes, and she hovers in the air in front of him, seemingly watching him. Once the message is finished, he curses and pulls the device off of his face. He considers throwing it away, but before he can act on that thought, Syl flutters closer, transforming into her usual form of a tiny woman wearing a white dress that fades into mist at the edges, though her body itself is clearly defined. She settles down on Kaladin's hand, and examines the device.]

Kaladin, this place is very strange. I don't remember anything like it...

[Kaladin sighs.] I know, Syl. The last thing I remember was rescuing Dalinar and his men from the Tower, but I don't remember how we got here. I don't even remember falling asleep. Storm it! That bastard must be behind this somehow! [He clenches his empty hand into a fist.] Syl, I need to know what happened to my men.

[Syl stops poking at the device in Kaladin's hand, and begins to walk up towards his face, as though walking up an invisible set of stairs.] I don't know what happened to them. I don't even know where this place is! [She sits down right in front of his face, as though the very air was solid. She looks him up and down, then smiles.] By the way, orange really isn't your colour.

[He frowns at her, but says nothing, only snorts. Anyone watching this exchange would think he was talking to himself, but that doesn't even cross his mind, he's so used to Syl's preference not to show herself to anyone other than him.]

((OOC: If your character can regularly see things no one else can, they can vaguely see Syl, but they can't hear her. So feel free to acknowledge her or not!))
