[ The varying successes of yesterdays hunt has left Spike in a state of comfortable confidence, as always bordering on arrogance. He's spent most of the day lounging about the apartment, smoking and drinking and enjoying the sensation of being truly well fed for the first time in far too long. Not just on blood, but on adrenaline as well — it was fun, nearly as fun as it is to wait and see if the boyscouts actually retaliate like they so frequently threaten.

Of course, Spike isn't good at waiting. Sometime after nightfall he leaves the apartment with the intent of getting some fresh air and take a stroll. Maybe round up a straggler. If nothing has happened this far, surely it won't now. ]

[Oh, the boy scouts are definitely retaliating this time, and it would have happened a whole lot earlier in the day if he'd been sure Spike was alone in his room. Jack doesn't really fancy taking on Rose too, fairly sure she would take Spike's side in any outright confrontation, so he spends the afternoon and evening skulking about in a doorway down the hall from Spike's apartment, waiting for one or other of them to come out so he can catch Spike by himself.

His patience finally pays off when Spike finally emerges, looking cocky as anything. Jack's blood starts to boil at the sight of him. He ducks back into the doorway of the empty apartment, hefting the baseball bat in his hand. He's not looking to kill, even though god knows he's like to. But re-ensouling is the plan, so he's just going for pain. Well, pain and immobilization so he can cause more pain.]

	[ He really should be more careful, but he really really isn't. Instead he saunters down that corridor as if he owns the place, not suspecting the world of pain that is waiting just a few short strides ahead of him. 	[Even without the whistling, he's making enough sound with his unsuspecting footsteps for Jack to be able to judge pretty accurately when he's about to draw level with the doorway. 	[ The sound that bat makes as it connects with his skull must be so satisfying, but for Spike it's nothing but black stars dotting his vision, followed by a blinding pain unlike anything he's felt since he got that blasted chip out. [Oh, it's satisfying all right. Jack's not a sadist in the normal scheme of things, but when a bit of a pain is very thoroughly deserved, in his opinion, there's nothing quite so gratifying as providing it. He grunts in satisfaction as Spike doubles over, and takes the chance to get round behind him and pretty much barrel Spike into the room he was hiding in. Getting him out of sight and down on the floor seems like a sensible second move.]

	You know how it is, enemies rack up so quickly. You didn't expect me to stay faithful, did y- [ The retort is cut short by the first kick, forcing a choked off grunt out of his throat. He staggers, hopping, for a moment, trying to catch his balance, but it's a lost cause and he goes down, but he hits out blindly with the baseball bat as he goes. 	[ He's a little too busy yanking Jacks leg to protect himself from the wildly swinging bat but at least this time he's prepared, shoulders pulled up to at least try and protect himself from the blows. 	[Jack is determined not to end up underneath. He remembers only too well what happened the last time he ended up underneath Spike. He squirms and twists to try and get lose from Spike's grip and keeps on swinging the bat, at shorter range now so with less power, but he feels it connect a couple of times, first with something bony and then with something fleshy.] (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	[ Bony and fleshy describes most of his body and although the power isn't in it, the blows hurt. This isn't working. Jack's too tall and heavy and his own superhuman strength too neutered (bloody Wardens) to do much good at all. A change of tactic then — instead of wrestling to get on top, he's now struggling to get off. ] (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[ Just like Jack has his coat, Spike isn't too keen on parting with his — not so soon after he finally got it back. Not ever. This represents everything he's accomplished so far and he's not giving it up to some tosser who can't mind his own business. ]

Do you want me to kill you again, Jack? Chop you up into messes and see if you can put yourself together? [ He aims a punch for whatever he can hit. Hard, like punctuation. ]

Not really. [It comes out clipped and breathless because he's using all his breath trying to scramble after Spike. And then there's a blinding pain in his shoulder and he flinches back, suddenly nerveless fingers dropping the bat. He scrambles backward instead, away and onto his feet, flexing the injured arm as he grinds out:]

I'll save you the wondering: I can. Can't get rid of me that easily, Spike.

[Circling, watching his chance, more wary now that he's lost the bat.]

	[ Surprise surprise, he's actually not headed for the door and a great escape. Not yet. This needs to be settled and he's way too worked up to flee. Instead he circles like the animal he is, feral yellow eyes narrowed into slits. ] Oh, but I do believe I still want to try. Maybe bake you into a nice steak and kidney pie. [Neither is Jack trying to get away. Just like they both always want to get the last word in any verbal exchange, neither of them is going to run away from this either.

Besides. He hasn't made Spike hurt nearly enough yet.

He snorts, deliberately goading the vampire because he's Jack. It's what he does.] I'd like to see you try.

[Knowing it's going to hurt his shoulder, but reckoning it'll be worth it, he reaches to his belt to draw his gun. Except it hurts more than he expected and he's slower to draw than he would have liked...]

	Then keep your eyes open, love. [ Bullets won't kill him. They'll hurt like hell and do plenty of damage, but they won't kill him. That doesn't mean he's looking forward to getting shot and so when Jack reaches for the gun, Spike retaliates. A kick this time, for starters. ] Oh no you don't! (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[Spike's boot connects with his forearm, just as he manages to wrench the gun free from its holster with a grunt of pain - a grunt that turns into a cry as fresh pain shoots through his arm. He drops the gun just as he did the bat, but this time he immediately drops down to scrabble after it with his left hand. He's not as good a shot with his left hand, but it's all he has now and it's not like he actually has to hit anywhere in particular. Shooting any part of Spike's body is going to hurt him.]

[Jack's too busy reaching for the gun to see the almost comical look on Spike's face as he searches for cover. And the moment he's got it in his hand, he lifts it and fires off a couple of shots in Spike's general direction, not even really looking to see where they hit because now he's turning as he staggers to his feet to get nearer to the door himself. He's not planning on leaving quite yet, but neither is he going to kid himself that he's going to be able to take Spike all the way down with an injured arm and shoulder. So getting closer to the door seems like a sound tactic.]

[ Believe it or not but dodging bullets isn't in the vampire skillset and although one of them misses, the other doesn't. He bites back a pained howl as it embeds itself in his shoulder, causing him to stagger and fold over in pain. Normally this wouldn't be too much of a problem, but with the slowed healing he'll be paying for this for a while. ]

You-! [ What else is there to say? Nothing, really. Working through the pain he throws himself at Jack, fangs bared. ]

[The sound of that yowl lifts his spirits no end, and he's grinning as he turns back towards Spike - though only for a second, because the next moment Spike barrels into him and the impact of his back against the wall winds him momentarily. He is not letting Spike get his fangs in his neck again, though, so he resorts to fighting dirty with a knee in the crown jewels until he get far enough away to use his gun again.]

[Well, when you're at forcibly close range like that, the bollocks are an obvious target! He watches Spike stagger back with a fierce grin, and takes a moment to get his breath back before he moves to stand over the fallen vampire. He still has his gun in his hand, but honestly? Up close and personal is so much more satisfying.]

How's it feel, Spike? To get a bit of that violence done back to you?

[Kicking indiscriminately at whatever parts of Spike he can reach. He figures he doesn't have to be particularly careful about avoiding rupturing kidneys and so on, not with someone who's already dead.]
